The thirteen-year-old sat at the edge of the lake, her violet eyes just staring at the ice covered water. The ice was beginning to melt, a sure sign that the temperatures were somewhat warmer than normal, but oh well. She turned her head and looked around, not quite sure as to why she had come out here. Although, as she looked around, she noticed that the snow was melting a little bit as well.

Winter had been nice while it lasted. Hopefully it would get colder again soon and there would at least by one more snow storm. She couldn't help but like snow, seeing as it was her power. Being an ice elementalist could be fun.

She then looked at her clothes, laughing when she saw how badly she stood out out here. Everything was white, and here she was, in nothing but black. It amused her, but she eventually stopped laughing, and shook her head.

October looked back to the lake, and rested her head in her hands. "Well, I'm bored," she said quietly to herself, hoping someone might come along. She wanted to talk to someone.

Nina walked toward the semi-frozen lake, the wind blowing her long snad-colored hair around wildly. She was fairly cold, wearing only her red and black skirt and her black tank top, along with her collection of other random "gothic" accessories, but she knew that the temperature wasn't as low as it normally was this time of year.

She walked along until she saw someone else close by. The other girl looked to be just as bored as Nina was. She walked over to her, and waited to see if the girl said anything.

Upon hearing feet crunch into what snow was left on the ground, October turned her head back, looking at the other female. She looked her over, not really minding her appearance, but wondering why she didn't have a coat on. Sure, it wasn't as cold as it usually was, but heavier clothing than skirts and tank tops were needed. At least, in her opinion, but she decided she shouldn't say anything about it.

"Hello," she said to Nina with a bright smile. "I'm October."

"Hello." Nina answered back. "I'm Nina."

Nina thought for a moment of what else she could say. She never was good at meeting people for the first time. A bit uneasily, she slid her foot through the snow making random designs.

"So, uh... what brings you out here?"

"It's nice to meet you, Nina," October said with a smile. The thirteen-year-old watched the older female as she began to draw in the in the snow with her foot, silent for the time being. If she didn't say anything, then the little girl would. When Nina did say something, though, October shrugged her shoulders. "Oh, nothing really. I'm just bored, and it's nice out here. I like the snow," she said with a smile. "What about you?"

Nina shrugged.

"I just needed a break from being in the school for a long time." She took a deep breath. Even when it was this cold she loved the outside and fresh air.

"How long have you been at the Academy?" she asked.

October nodded in understanding when she spoke her reason. "Yeah. It can get really boring in there," she said. It could get loud in there, too... and, even though it was quite a large place, it could seem small at times, too. At least, it did to her. When asked how long she had been there, the young ice elementalist had to think for a few moments. "Um... I'll have been here for six months on the seventeenth." Wow. She had been here for longer than she thought she had been. "What about you?"

Nina smiled.
"I've just been here a couple weeks. Do you like it here?"

She thought for a moment, and hoped the girl didn't mind her questions. She then decided that if she didn't, she would probably think of something else to talk about.

Nina sighed, she missed home. But she smiled anyway.

"Yeah, it's a good place. It's not home though.

She leaned back against a tree and yelped as a sheet of snow fell down her shirt. She leaped away from the tree as if it was a poisonous snake and stood shaking and whimpering, her eyes welling up with tears.

"I hate the cold..." she whimpered.
