There was an emptiness deep inside Hikaru. A longing. He missed having friends. He hadn't seen Sushi around. He hadn't seen Tomomi around. And those were pretty much his only friends on this island.

He wanted to go home: he didn't fit in here. He never had.

He'd tried.

But every try had ended in failure. He always looked the wrong way. Said the wrong thing. Asked the wrong questions. Every turn he took led to embarrassment. To offence. To stupidity.

He was lonely. He wanted friends. He didn't have anyone in class and didn't have anyone in school. He hadn't seen anyone he knew in ages. He'd cried about it to his parents, but they just didn't get it. He didn't blame them - he didn't get it. It was so easy to make friends in Japan - they could talk about popular TikToks, discuss anime or games or the dramas on TV. He didn't have any of those here.

And everyone spoke a bunch of weird languages. And he couldn't build a career for himself here. Couldn't build a future. The culture was different. People's tastes in media was different. Weird, even. How was he supposed to fit in? He hadn't even come here by choice. And he still couldn't go back. Not until he figured out how to get rid of his powers for good. He hated them. Hated his eyes. Hated his illusions. Hated his everything.

He hated it all.

Something had to change, but what? What could he even do? He kicked a stone, angry tears spilling onto the pavement as the cloudy sky circled above. He couldn't even see the stars. Stupid island. Stupid powers. Stupid life.

Katie

Katie looked at the skies with worry. She really hoped that it wouldn't start raining. But judging by the cloudy skies above, it seemed she didn't have a say in the matter. So much for getting that Magic Girl movie for Vespa.

She was so distracted by the skies above that she really wasn't paying attention to where she was going, and almost walked straight into Hikaru. "OH! Sorry, I didn't see you there..." She trailed off as she got a chance to look at Hikaru. Was he crying? Suddenly the surprise she'd felt at nearly walking into him was replaced by concern.

"Hi.. Hikaru? Are you okay?" Katie asked, hesitating for a moment, before moving to place her hand on his back. "Hey, it's.. It's gonna be okay." Katie offered in as reassuring a tone as she could muster, though there was still a clear amount of worry in her voice.

Hikaru stared.

"Katie?" His voice was ripe with sadness - frail enough to break as he frantically wiped at his face. "Sorry," he half-sniffled, half-laughed as he stepped out of Katie's way. "I didn't see you there either."

He flinched at the feeling of her touch on his back, the warmth foreign and strange. "W-why..." he began to say before the tears flooded forth. He took a great big gasping sob before hunching over, the streams flowing down his face quicker than he could dry his cheeks. "It's-- it's not going to be okay." He paused only to take a tissue and begin dabbing at the snot (gross) dribbling from his nose. "I don't fit in. I don't know how to fit in. I don't get anything about this stupid place!" His voice rose in pitch, and people began staring at him even more than he had before. He shrank into a ball on instinct, eyes flickering between red and blue - his power going on and off. He hated this. Hated all of it. Why did people always stare? Why did they have to look his way? Why was he like this?!

"I hate these powers. I hate this island. I hate this life. I don't want to live here. I don't want to be special. I don't want to be different. I just... I want to go home..." he muttered, voice barely above a whisper.

Katie

Katie took a step back as Hikaru yelled. Once he was done, Katie gave him a few soft pats on the back "It's alright.. Just let it out." she said. Katie had almost no idea what she was doing, but it didn't matter. Right now she was just trying to be there for Hikaru, whatever that might mean.

"No ones going to force you to stay." Katie said softly, before giving him a few more pats. "But you don't have to fit in either. No one fits in perfectly with everyone.. But that okay! It's the differences between people that make us special. Find the people who like you.. for you. It doesn't matter if that's ten people, or just one. All that matters is that you're happy. And if people want you to change, or they want you to do something different so that you can be friends with them, they aren't really your friend."

God, he was pathetic. Crying in the street, being a nuisance, making loud noise. God, he hated this.
But he couldn't stop.

The more he tried to calm down, the more the tears kept falling. His shoulders shook with the pain and the cold of the night wind. His nose dribbled. His voice felt raw. He couldn't stop wailing.
"God, Katie..." he sobbed. "Why are you even being nice to me? You don't even know me that well. I'm just some guy who decided to start sobbing in some sad street corner." Okay, the thought of that actually got him to laugh just a tiny bit. Slowly and bit by bit, the tears began to ebb away. "Sorry. I'm being weird tonight." He slowly rose to his feet, blowing his nose once more. "Thanks for this. I just... I wish I didn't have powers. I wanna go home."
His smile didn't reach his eyes.

Naisiskhrea

Today was her worst day ever. It started when at the stables for grooming, someone tried to saddle her and went down from there. The final blow was when she chewed out Flutterpip for not finishing her homework. The look on Flutterpip's face tore at Naisis's heart. She turned and left before she said or done anything she would regret more than she already did.

The truth was the last few weeks have been a disaster. Going from The Queen of Terror to Flutterpip's mom had been a big shock. Any attempt to recover what she once was had failed. She had no other purpose here other than being a mom.

After that blowup, she needed to get away from everything and think. Changing into her natural form, she headed to one of her favorite grazing spots. On the way, she heard someone yelling and from the sounds of it, having as much of a lousy time as she was.

Perking up her ears and focusing on the source, she heard he hated his powers, this place, and wanted to go home, something she could relate to. She also heard a female voice, as well.

"You and me," she muttered.

Finally, getting close enough to see those who were speaking, she saw a young man curled up and a young woman trying to console him.

She was about to leave when she heard the woman say something so profound it stopped her in her tracks. The truth she said struck a chord deep inside of her.

"That is very good advice. You should listen to her," the last part was more to herself. Her voice (that of a mature female) seemed to come from a spot over her head.

She looked up hoping no one had heard her but pretty certain they did, well no use hiding.

Katie

"Because that's what friends do, they help each other to feel better when their sad." Katie said, offering a small smile in a weak attempt to lift Hikaru's spirits. That smile widened when Hikaru managed to crack a small joke, she was making progress!

Katie blinked when Hikaru started apologizing. "Don't apologize.. please. It's okay, everything's okay. If.. if you really want to go home, what's stopping you? They can't keep you here forever, right?"

"That is very good advice. You should listen to her,"

When she heard a new voice, relief washed over Katie, it sounded like an adult, so maybe they had training or knew how to handle a situation like this. "Oh. ummm Hi?" Katie called out, looking around for a minute before finally spotting Naisis, who looked like some kind of horse, maybe they were a shifter? Either way, Katie gestured for them to come over and lend a hand as she was clearly in over her head.

"Yeah, you're..." he sighed. "You're right. They can't keep me here forever, just until I can shut off these powers..." The boy looked towards the sky again, setting his sights on a star and attaching his wish to it with all his might. "Then I can go home."

"You should listen to her," a voice rang out. It was soothing, and somehow it just... he felt better. From both the advice from Katie and the stranger. He looked over to see its source, at which point he saw... a horse. She was beautiful, with a silky ochre mane like ink below the shimmer of the night sky. He was confused for a moment, then noticed the shifter tag. Right. Well, he could definitely listen to whatever this wise person had to say. She seemed nice!

"Uh, hiya," he continued on from Katie's example, choosing to bow his head in greeting.

She sighed and shook her head. She had no idea why she got involved with them (considering what just have happened). Was it misery loves company or she did not want to be alone right now, or deep down, she wanted to be helpful. In any case, she was drawn to the two, especially the male of the pair. Nodding to the male, she leaned forward at took a sniff of both of them. Other than the usual (although she did like the deodorant he was using), there was not any magic to speak of (she had enough of rogue magic interaction). Stepping back, she reared up and was engulfed in a silver-gray fog. When it dissipated, a middle-aged woman (with a horse-like face and ears) dressed in a full-length black gown stood in its place.

She looked down at them with her practiced cold, indifferent look (a tool she used to hide her real intention; in this case, the turmoil inside her).

She folded her arms and focused on the male and inquired in her indifferent style, "Let me see if I got this right. You do not fit in and do not know how to, and I heard something like you hate your powers, this island, and your life here?"

After a pause, she continued, "well, you are not alone. I doubt if anyone that came here fit in at first. I do not and probably never will fit in here. I love my magic, but can only use it here on rare occasions."

Tilting her head to one side she asked with a little more interest, "by the way, what is your power?"

Hikaru nodded, listening to the person. He didn't really understand why she was giving him advice, but... yeah. It was good advice. He felt kind of uncomfortable though. At the moment all he wanted to do was go back to his room and just...exist, he supposed. He should probably see someone about all this, coming to think of it. They had like...counselors and stuff - like Dr. Maruki from Persona 5 Royal! He could go see one of those. It'd probably be for the best. And maybe someone at school could help him out with his power thing, get it removed permanently. He liked the illusion thing, but...huh.

Did he actually want to leave? Was he...starting to actually like it here? He didn't know. He wasn't sure.

"I, uh... sometimes my eyes go red, and people start staring at me if they're close enough." He sighs. "I don't really like it. Anyway, I've gotta get home now. It's getting late." He excused himself with a small head bow and turned to leave.
