Home, he was home. Caius walked past the houses and buildings, he always went on a long walk after he got back. He shifted the duffle bag he had slung over his shoulders, letting the familiar scents fill his nose. He was home.

He moved out if the clumps of buildings, toward a more isolated house near the forest. His house, a place full of memories, the place where him and his wife had lived happily, raised their daughter. Things had changed over the years, his wife passed, his daughter grew fast and now they had someone new there.

The white haired werewolf pushed open the door and stepped in, his nose taking in the scent of home. His sharp eyes looking about as he stepped in, setting his bag on his chair. He was home.

Sofia busied herself in the kitchen of the two-story house, slicing a large slab of meat into chewable chunks before dropping it into a very large pot of stew that was simmering on the stove. Her stomach growled and she frowned at the raw meat before picking up a chunk of it and popping it into her mouth. She still wasn't used to craving raw meats, but her wolf grumbled with satisfaction. Or blood. Sofia swallowed and adjusted the temperature under the pot on the stove, picking up a long-handled wooden spoon and stirring in the rest of the beef.

For the past month or so she'd been here, Sofia had contented herself with playing house for Caius while he was away. The older man had kindly taken her in soon after she'd been Changed, and teaching her about living as a werewolf...when he was home, of course. His work kept him away fairly often. She didn't mind. It gave her time to get used to her new home.

She was washing her hands in the sink when she heard a familiar pair of feet coming up the drive. He was home. She waited for the sound of his bag hitting the chair and shut off the water, drying her hands on a nearby towel. Welcome home, she sent him the thought just as easily as speaking. Dinner will be ready soon. She opened a cabinet and pulled a couple of large bowls from it, then went to the dining room and set them on the table.

He felt the back of his mind tingles as he picked up Sofia's thoughts. It had been odd adjusting to having a woman around the house after his wife died, but Sofia had become a normal part of his life.

Stepping through the house he looked over everything, she kept the house so clean, it was always nice coming home to this. Stopping in front of a shelf he pulled a small statue from his pocket, a woman with a wolf on both sides of her, his goddess. He gently set the statue on the shelf. Most wouldn't guess that he was religious, but he was, he was a monk among his faith.

He continued on, coming into the kitchen, his nose twitching as the pleasant smell of food hit it. Looking to Sofia he found a small smile appear on his normally unreadable face, "smells good."

Sofia listened to the sounds of something being set onto a shelf while she put silverware on the dining room table, then returned to the kitchen to take down some glasses from another cabinet. It would be nice to not have to eat alone for once. She looked at the glasses in frustration, they were sitting on a higher shelf. Grunting, she climbed up onto the counter to fetch them, jumping down from her perch with the cups in her hands as Caius entered the kitchen.

"Thanks," she grinned. "I'm trying a new recipe. Should be just a couple more minutes for the meat to cook." She set the glasses on the counter and opened the fridge, pulling out a jug of iced tea and pouring herself some. "Where did you go this time?" She leaned a slender hip on the counter and sipped from her cup.

He nodded, his nose twitching, his sense of smell sorting through the various things that made up the scent.

"Egypt," stepping forward he poured himself a glass of tea as well, "a few snake shifter children were spotted in the desert, there enrolled in the school now."

Caius took a drink, letting the liquid cool his throat, "many parts of Egypt are beautiful, but I don't care for the sand." He let out a small chuckle, a rarity for him, "gets your fur, difficult to wash out."

Leaning against the wall he rolled the cup in his calloused hands, "quite cold where I'm from, supposed I'm not really made for the desert," he said his small smile still showing.

"Egypt," Sofia echoed. She'd never been to Egypt. She hadn't been to many places, really. The most exotic place she'd been in were the woods in Canada, right after she'd Changed. She listened to him patiently, offering a soft smile. "I imagine it's hot, that close to the equator," she replied, then set her cup down on the counter and turned back to the stew to give it a stir.

"I wish I could go with you some time," she told him absently, leaning her nose over the pot and inhaling the steam. Hmm. It needed something. Sofia wandered over to the spice cabinet and let her fingers glide over the different bottles. Not salt, not parsley...oregano. That was it. She grabbed the bottle of oregano and returned to the pot, sprinkling some in and giving it another stir. She scented it again. That was better. Having a good nose really helped when it came to cooking.

He tilted his head in thought, it had been a while since he had a real vacation, "well... summer vacation is coming up." Caius stepped beside her, "a trip could be nice," he knew his daughter would appreciate it.

The older werewolf's nose twitched again, "it'd be nice to see a few places outside of work." He leaned in a bit to look in the pot, "could even go to my home country," he hadn't been back their in decades, the old accent had long faded.

His red eyes had a shine about them, he didn't show many emotions, but his eyes always showed when he was happy. "It'll be...a thank you, for everything," he looked to her.

"Mm," she agreed as she took a sip of the stew from the spoon. A vacation would be nice. Though she wondered if it would be okay...things would have to be planned carefully around the cycle of the moon in order to prevent bad things from happening. She didn't want to ruin a vacation.

Sofia set the spoon down in the sink and turned the burner off, picking up some potholders to remove the pot from the heat. She gave him a sideways glance, "I should be the one thanking you. You're the one who saved me," she told him, fishing in a nearby drawer for a ladle. She set the ladle into the soup pot before carrying the whole thing with ease over to the dining room table. Sofia served him first before fixing herself a bowl and settling down in her chair. "If you hadn't come along when you did, I probably would have either starved or destroyed that entire town." She lifted her spoon to her lips and blew on it before putting it in her mouth.

Crossing his arms, he took a sip of his tea, "that's what scouts are for." He was happy he was able to help her, "it's....it's been nice having you here." It had taking some adjusting, but he'd come to appreciate her.

His red eyes glanced out the window, he rarely spoke like this. Normally he was quiet, almost silent at times, his eyes returned to her.

"Has everything been ok while I was gone?" he'd done his best to mentor her when he was present, show her how to deal with her predatory urges and the full moons.

Sofia brought her napkin to her mouth, but it did nothing to hide the light blush that bloomed on her cheeks. She was glad that he'd glanced away so she could compose herself before he saw. Sofia liked Caius. He was a good hunting companion, and a valued mentor. They had only spent a short time together, but she felt close to him, and safer when he was around. His presence...comforted her, in a way.

Clearing her throat, she stirred her soup with her spoon, poking at a piece of beef. "Mhm," she nodded. He was certainly talkative today, considering his usually-silent demeanor. "No incidents to report." She took another couple of bites. "Had a couple of shifts. They're still pretty painful, and I still get those occasional blackouts when the wolf takes over." She still didn't have full control over it, but she was getting there, day by day.
