"It's complicated." Lauren said looking away. She couldn't leave them, she knew that. That was put of the reason her brother and sister were no longer living.

Judas nodded, smiling sympathetically.
"I understand, it usually is. Perhaps in time you can tell someone, and they can help you. That is the only way. There are plenty in the academy who are kind and helpful."
Judas squinted.
"And I can see that your soul still blazes with youth and life."

Lauren smiled, she didn't want to talk to anyone and she wasn't going either. But it was kind of him to suggest it. "Youth? Really? Well does that tell you that today is my birthday?" Lauren asked him. She wondered if that was part of his power or something.

Judas shrugged, smiling.
"I only see the living souls, see them like yours, a million points of beautiful golden light inside you. As long as it remains, you will always have hope. That is exactly why mine departed ages ago."
He chuckled.

"I really do wish I could see what you can see." Lauren said to him and smiled back. For some reason it comforted her knowing that there was always hope even though didn't seem like that.

Judas smiled at her.
"I wouldn't wish it upon my greatest enemy. For although I can see you blazing with beautiful golden light, not only you, the rich, the poor, the ugly, the beautiful, all of them have beautiful golden souls. I was given this sight to show to me that I, I haven't a soul left in me. When I gaze upon myself, there is no light, there is no living soul."
He chuckled.
