A cold wind blew over the rooftop, sending a shiver down Hikaru's spine. "It's getting colder and colder lately..." He sighed.

"Why am I like this?" He mumbled, taking out his phone to check his face - his eyes were still red. Why did this stupid power have to activate now? Why him? Why did he have to be the one stuck with this stupid compulsion spell...ability...power... thing!? It sucked! He had a career! A goal! Fans! Friends! Why did he have to quit now?! Why did he have to move away now?! Damn it all! He kicked the stone wall as hard as he could - it had little effect.

"...ow..." He whined, rubbing his toe. That was probably a mistake. "Gah... why can't I do anything right?!" Tears began forming in his eyes as he curled up into a ball against the balcony, looking up at the stars. "My name means light, so I should shine...but I can't. I hate these eyes. I hate this island. I hate myself..." He sighed, hanging his head low. Staring at the stone slabs wasn't so bad. At least they wouldn't be staring at him. He didn't mind people looking, but... he wanted them to look because they wanted to, not because of some stupid power.

"What am I going to do...?" He whispered, on the verge of sobbing.

This dumb bird was simply enjoying her evening - luminescent stars blanketed the backdrop of darkened skies whilst the crescent moon lovingly gazed upon the resting world below. Kueria stretched her wings, soaring seamlessly amongst the canvas of night, reveling in the crisp twilight ambiance. As she glided across the rooftops, she found herself unexplainably drawn to a silhouette below, and, as any curious bird would do, she dived down to check it out.

Silencing her movements, she landed quite a distance behind the figure, listening in as she steadily approached him. Kueria wasn't sure if he'd noticed her or not given that he seemed to be a little preoccupied at the moment with his sentiments. She paused, shifting her form to that of a young fae before she contemplated what to do. She was tempted to start singing in an attempt to cheer the fellow up but a young mister she'd met earlier told her that it was basic manners to ask before using "mind magic". Thus, she settled on tapping him gently on the shoulder in a gesture of greeting. With her voice escaping her lips in the most empathetic tone she could muster, she unfurled her wings ever so slightly as she addressed him.

"Hi mister, is something wrong? Mister seems sad."

Hikaru looked up at the person who'd tapped him on the shoulder. Her voice was sweet and soft - he could listen to it for hours on end... It made his heart want to burst out of his chest and bury itself in a place where it could enjoy the sound forever. Why was it so enchanting? He couldn't even focus on his own sadness with it ringing in his ears, capturing his every thought. He watched her, dazed, head clearing only when she stopped speaking and even then... he wanted to hear more. If Yamato Nadeshiko had a voice, this would be it.

"I um... yeah." He mumbled, acutely aware of his own voice and words sounding so dumb compared to this girl's. He wondered if the language charm would make him sound stupider than he already was. "Something keeps happening lately and... it's just super...um...frustrating." His brain felt scrambled and his cheeks turned pink as he couldn't find the words to say. What did he want to say in front of this wonderful person? What could he say that wouldn't make him look like the stupid idiot he was?

Kueria tilted her head ever so slightly as the boy before her stumbled through his words. In all truth, she quite understood his sentiments - coming up to the roof feeling all-time low, gazing at the wonderous courtyard below just wishing that whatever demons were plaguing his mind would dissipate into the predominant silence. However, this bird had no aptitude for languages and couldn't seem to string together any series of words to express how badly she wanted to cheer the poor guy up.

Promptly plopping herself down on the vacant space next to him, she found herself caught in a daze as she fixated her gaze on the other's crimson eyes. "Mister has very red eyes... very pretty..." Her voice drifted off as she continued to stare captivatedly. Red, a colour which the bird has grown increasingly attached to, gleamed in various hues of scarlet, vermillion and garnet, shifting like a prism of hypnotism - like the very essence of this salient shade was condensed into the sphere of his pupil.

She blinked. Once, twice, and internally chided herself for getting so distracted. Speaking once more, she willed her tone to come off in a much more composed manner yet still somehow keeping its child-like touch.

"Does Mister want to talk about what's wrong?"

"Uh...um..." Hikaru felt his face begin to match the colour of his irises, cheeks warming more with each passing second that the girl looked into his eyes. Five, ten, fifteen seconds passed, Hikaru's brain turning more and more to panicked mush as the moments progressed. Was something on his face? Why was she staring at him like that? Did he do something wrong? Did he still have chocolate left on him from lunch?

Ah, that voice again... he closed his eyes, just lingering on the sound. It was soothing, almost like a lullaby sung to him on repeat. And then the moment was over. "Um..." He hesitated, but couldn't resist letting it out. She just seemed like someone he could trust - he could just feel it.

"Well... my powers. They keep activating." He mumbled, feeling even more insecure now. His voice was nothing compared to hers, what with him mumbling and not able to talk properly. If only he could speak her language, everything would be easier... Maybe he should take English lessons. Oh, who was he kidding? Speaking or not speaking English had nothing to do with it.

"My eyes kinda turn red like this, and everyone around me kinda stares when they do..." He pointed at the cursed eyes, these stupid sources of pain. "I wish I could just get rid of them, but I'm don't think I could just go around blind." He chuckled, face warming. Was that a bad joke? It was definitely a bad joke. "...sorry." He apologised quietly, whispering as he looked down. He didn't want to see her look of disgust at his stupid self.

Her first thought upon seeing his reaction was along the lines of : oh no dumb Kueria made him uncomfortable. However, she pushed that thought back into the depths of her rather empty mind as he continued to explain his predicament.

My eyes kinda turn red like this, and everyone around me kinda stares when they do...

So it was a curse of some sort perhaps...? The bird was confused but still offered the other a gentle smile as he tried to lighten the mood a little. A part of her wasn't sure how to respond, after all, this was sensitive ground she was treading on - one wrong sentence might just upset the poor guy even more. As his gaze shifted downwards, she too lowered her neck to prevent his face from escaping her line of sight. Then, the man apologized, further intensifying her confusion.

"Why is mister apologizing? Mister didn't do anything wrong, he has nothing to apologize for!" she blurted out, hoping that it would cheer him up even in the slightest. She sparred herself a few beats of silence to think of a suitable response. She, too, was cursed and while it was far from being unable to control an ability, they both had their similarities. Speaking once again, she addressed him in a much more languid manner.

"Kueria understands a bit, she was cursed long ago. But Mister should have hope, he can learn to control this power, Kueria believes in him! Mister should be more... confi..." she halted her speech, mouthing the rather difficult word a few times before continuing "confident in himself, Kueria thinks the power is very pretty!"

Recalling that she could make people happy via her singing, she then offered "Would Mister like to hear Kueria sing? Kueria was told her singing makes people happy!

Hikaru sighed, enjoying the sound of her voice. But... the more he heard it, the more he realised - the girl was a little too cheery for his liking. It was cute how she couldn't say confident though. Hikaru found himself smiling. "I mean...if you want to sing, you can go ahead." He found himself trying hard not to grin like an idiot.

Kueria nodded as she sat back, easing herself into a more loosened and relaxed posture. Letting her age old instincts envelop her being, she willed the surrounding breeze to pick up ever so slightly as she began to sing. The girl sang a melody lost within the revolutions of time. A foreign language, so alien yet somehow still ever familiar escaped her lips as her voice swayed the ambience like a spring zephyr. She felt the drifting air particles slowly but surely encase themselves with her magic of euphoria. Once she stopped, a few faint echos continued to linger within the vicinity as her gaze rested on Hikaru once more. With her words laced with a similar serene tone, she addressed the other.

“Is Mister feeling any better?”

Hikaru felt his eyes roll back, the soothing tone overtaking him. The anger, frustration, self-loathing... it was all forgotten for just a brief moment. The sweet, soothing melody sounded so faraway, as if carried on the gentle wind that warmed his soul.

As the calm enveloped him, he actually found his eyelids drooping. Maybe... maybe the stress and sleepless nights had finally gotten to him. He yawned, resting his head against the stone guardrail that somehow felt as soft as a pillow... and slept. A sweet, peaceful, sleep pulled him into its embrace.

"Fine..." He mumbled groggily, before properly dozing off.
