Mystal was no stranger to starlight academy; she'd spent virtually her entire life here as a student so walking in as a teacher this time should be no different right? Wrong. An odd, squeamish trepidation trickled from her chest to her gut as she cautiously stepped into the administration office. It was all too nostalgic yet all too different. The constant beeping of machines was everpresent, as was the distinct scent of freshly printed paper. Taking in a slow, steady inhale, she gathered her composure and refined her posture before venturing into the staff only section.

Not exactly knowing what to do or where to go, she simply wandered around, peeking into the different doors and offices until she finally found a fellow staff. For a short moment, she considered stepping away and pretending she never saw the guy to begin with but alas, she was a teacher now, she had to be adept in interacting with people, especially students. Letting out a quick, puffy sigh, she approached him, gently tapping him with a single vine stemming from the top of her head.

"Hi! I'm Mystel - the new staff... nurse... gardener." Was it weird to have so many roles? Mystel let out a sheepish chuckle as she wrapped the vine round her waist before continuing in a pitch slightly too high for her liking "Yeah, nice to meet you!"

Titus wasn't really having a particularly interesting day. His classes were effectively done and had gone without anything notable happening. This was good in a sense, a sign that his students were improving with their control exercises. He had lunch with his son, and now he was taking care of a bit of business in the offices. He wasn't expecting anyone else to come around, but here someone was.

He turned to see who it was. Someone unfamiliar, and she looked a little lost. He knew that face all too well. She didn't even have to tell him she was new, it was written all over her. "Well, I'm Titus. Guess you could say I'm somewhat of a veteran teacher here. Did you need something?"

The second the other turned around, Mystel unintentionally took a slight step back. The man radiated crimson - from the crown of his head to the sphere of his iris. Fire. A small beat of fear resonated within the cage of her chest but she brushed it off within a split second as her lips curved into a smile to conceal any initial rudeness. No need for alarm, she reminded herself, he wasn't going to burst into flames. Well, not while they were inside the administration office anyway.

"Ah, thank goodness I bumped into someone experienced here." she voiced, more for herself than anyone else. Straightening the arch of her back and relaxing the slope of her shoulders, she gave herself a few moments to regain her composure before speaking in a languid pace. "If it's not too troublesome, I was wondering if you could give me a little advice?" Slackening her posture, she shifted her weight to her right leg before continuing: "It's kind of my first time being a teacher and I'm not really sure how to talk to the students. I mean, I'm just a substitute teacher for the art of self-defense so they might not call on me for duty anytime soon but when the time arises I want to know how to stand my ground but be approachable at the same time."

Titus caught her brief apprehension, but said nothing about it. She'd realize fairly quickly she'd have nothing to worry about with him. She was new, and wanted some advice. Fair enough, he was fairly sure he was qualified to give it.

"Ah, yeah you've got those first year jitters. I was like that back when the earth was young," he joked a bit. He definitely didn't look it, but he had been teaching for a long time at this point. "Personally, I say just relax and be yourself. Have fun with your class, and understand what you will and won't tolerate in your class. Some stuff should be a given, but hm..." he smiled and shrugged. "There's definitely a fine line to walk. In that sense some of it is just learning by experience."

"A fine line to walk" she repeated as she digested those words. Peering up to properly establish eye contact, she spoke once again "You seem really experienced, thank you for the advice. I was also a little concerned about garnering the student's respect - I'm just a plant after all. Moreover, I don't have any huge, bombastic abilities to impress them with." Letting out a light chuckle to fully ease herself into the banter, she continued:

"After all, I was once a student here and I've got to admit, I mostly respected my teachers because they were kinder than me, stronger than me and a lot more understanding than myself. In essence, I'm not sure how I can be all that to other students. Have you felt this way before?"

"I think you're underestimating yourself. You don't necessarily need big bombastic abilities to be an effective teacher. With teaching self defense it's less about how bombastic your abilities are, and more how you use them. Use the right tricks and you could even beat someone like me, a fire user," he grinned. "And if you don't believe me, I have an older brother who probably has a similar physiology to you so yeah."

"Well yeah, but in a different sense. My oldest sister asked me to take in an egg that was on the verge of hatching. With us an egg can be dormant for centuries before deciding to hatch. So should an egg become orphaned we take them and keep them safely hidden in a vault. Anyway, this one was showing faint signs of activity. There wasn't really anyone else who could do it, so I took it in," he started going through his phone.

"I didn't think I came remotely close to being a parent. I'd spent the last few odd centuries being a fighter. Not to mention I was on my own. But I must have some kind of knack for kids, because now he's the student council president," he showed her a picture of Orsick on his phone. "That's to say, you might not feel cut out for it, but you may be more qualified than you realize."

In their short conversation, Mystel had learnt a few things. Firstly, she had severely underestimated this guy's age. Heck, judging from the way he spoke, he seemed to have walked on this earth long enough to be her parent! Secondly, he was way, way, way wiser than he looked. Letting out a soft chuckle as she fiddled with the stray vine, she said "I doubt I'd be able to take you on in a fight; you seem pretty strong! Moreover, fire is my weakness and despite being a self-defence teacher, I'd much run from it than fight it."

The girl perked up as he explained his odd story of becoming a parent. Having a child who was the student council president was definitely no easy feat. He may not have looked the part at first but from his stories and the way he spoke, Mystel got the feeling that Titus had a genuinely kind heart. The girl peered at the phone as he showed her his son's picture. "He seems very well-groomed! It's pretty impressive you were able to just take up parenting like that, especially on such short notice and I'm glad at how great things turned out for you."

That's to say, you might not feel cut out for it, but you may be more qualified than you realize.

A few stray vines sprouted from below her shoulder blades and swayed in idle circles in the air. "Really?" Letting out a wistful sigh, she then continued "I sure hope so! By the way, what's the teaching schedule like here in Starlight Academy? Is it very stressful for you?"

"Self defense isn't necessarily the same as fighting normally. You're more or less teaching them to control a situation long enough to run away from it. And Orsick's a good kid. A bit of a wise ass, but that kinda runs in the family," he smiled. It seemed like he'd caught her a bit off guard with his comment about her qualifications.

"Don't focus on your shortcomings so much, focus on what you're doing for your kids. Trust me when I say they'll pick up on that and reciprocate in kind," he was considering his working schedule. "I wouldn't say it's particularly stressful. Though my schedule's a little different from others being a scout and all. They're good with accomodating schedules so..."
