Hal snickered. "You could have knocked me out and you would have to answer for injuring a senior student." he jested. He might have passed out from probably hitting his head, or that force could have knocked him out of his body temporarily. Quite literally. It was one of the other. It usually left him at least 30 minutes before he could return. He still had to work on that. Yes, that was why he was here in Starlight too.

He was quiet for a moment. "Ann, then." a pause, "I'll be frank to say sort of. But I'm pretty sure my family doesn't miss me at all." he scoffed, "I haven't heard from them for years and it's like they just dumped me here." he paused.

He probably shouldn't have rambled on about that. He fell quiet; only the sound of their footsteps in the hall could be heard between them. He spoke: "Sorry. You didn't need to hear that."

Wind said,
"It's fine. I understand that not everyone can have as good and supportive a family as I have. Do you remember much about them? Like, did you have any siblings?"
While she waited, she played with the air directly in front of here, making visible shapes from it. She loved using her powers and more often than not, she felt as though they weren't a burden at all. Except when they got out of control. She was happy she'd only had a minor outburst since she got here yesterday. Maybe she was learning to control it after all.

Hal hummed. Responding calmly, he said: "I'm an only child. It was always just me, my mom and my dad." he began trying to recount days before he moved out. He was barely 13. It's been nearly two years since then and he hasn't heard from his parents at all.

He continued, "I don't know any of my other relatives but my mom told me before that she has a younger sister and my dad mentioned to me that he had an estranged sister."

He paused for a moment, letting his gaze around while they walked, making sure he was on the right path and he hasn't missed the room. He proceeded, "Honestly, I wouldn't have thought they'd leave me alone like this. Dad and I were pretty close; as far as you can get with his busy schedule and all. And my mom was really nice. But when this academy cropped up, it's like they were in a hurry to kick me out of the house."

"My parents were happy to hear about this place. And they asked us who wanted to go to try it out, that maybe working with our tutor wasn't enough. I volunteered. After a month, if I like it, they'll send another one of my siblings. If I don't like it, I'll go home."
She changed the subject and asked,
"How long have you been here? Do you have any classes you like? What kind of powers do you have?"
She realized she was babbling and said quickly,
"Sorry, I'm just nervous. I babble when I'm nervous."
She gave him a shy smile and watched some of the other kids going to class, too.

Hal listened to her while she went on to talk about her family. He couldn't deny he was a bit envious. He wasn't sure himself if his parents were happy they could send him to a school where he could develop his skills or if they were happy that he'd be out of their sight. The thing was, his parents hadn't told him about any of this magic business. He was really sure that he was normal until he found out he was... not normal at all.

His parents seemed to look startled, or probably even alarmed, when he brought it up the first time. And then it was only after that when he was told that his great grandparents were rumored to have been telepaths.

He laughed as Wind quickly recovered from her ramble, "Nah, it's fine; we all have our quirks when we're nervous or something."

He continued: "I've been here for about two years or something. So far, all my classes are the same and the training class I have for mine is really just dull." he said glancing back at her for a moment while they walked.

"And well, the plainest explanation is that I'm sorta part-ghost, I guess?" he said, putting his arms behind his head "Astral Projection or something like that. It's pretty useful sometimes but I don't actually have a good grasp of it yet." Dropping his body out of nowhere, not being able to get back to his body soon enough and a limit of places he could get to. He still wasn't sure how bad he is at the projection thing. "What about you?"

"Oh and," he turned around and began walking backwards, "Don't ever let me hold any of your gadgets — things tend to short-circuit when I hold'em."

"Astral Projection? That actually sounds really interesting. All I have is an air and ice power. And shape shifting, but that one's better."
She reached up to brush her hair back, revealing her tattoo. She added,
"And the short-circuiting gadgets might mean you have some kind of electrical power you haven't discovered yet. An undiscovered power sounds like an adventure to me, Hal."
She looked at one of the doors that had a pretty design on it.
"The architecture is very lovely here. This school must be pretty old, don't you think?"

Hal laughed, "I'll deal with that 'adventure' when I finally get a grip with the first one. I still have accidents here and there, you know." he said almost jokingly as he spun around to face where he was going. Almost. But he was more than half-serious because he'd really like to be able to get to master projection first before hopping onto other things.

"Ice and wind. Cool." he hummed looking around at the designs on the hall. "As far as I know, this school's been up for decades already. And if I wasn't even... far from normal as I am now, I wouldn't really believe that with how well maintained this place is. As if it's built with magic." Hal seemed to space out for a moment before turning his gaze towards Wind; nodding his head to the side a little. Something he's associated to him smiling at people. He wasn't particularly sure if others saw it that way though, and he hasn't thought about that too much.

"And to be fair, elemental magic sounds pretty cool." he said turning to face front, "I think shape-shifting is pretty fun too but I haven't really met interesting shape-shifters around yet." he added.

Wind added,
"Well, the shapeshifting is the best because I feel a little freer when I'm an animal. I could show you all 4 of my animals if I wasn't afraid of scaring the crap out of everybody in this hallway," Wind laughed, then added,
"Without you helping me, I think I would've gotten lost. Thanks, Hal. You're a good help."

Hal chuckled slightly, "Always. We always feel a little freer in alternate forms really. Like gravity doesn't exist. Or dumb eyes on the walls or that kind of bull." he said absentmindedly. He always did feel less restrained in his astral form but he wasn't completely comfortable because his physical body was always left unprotected and if anything bad happens, he could really die.

He stops in his path as a familiar sign passes his sight. Taking a second glance on the door's sign to confirm it, he then turns to Wind. "When you're nice to someone, I guess that just means you're not a complete lowlife yet. That's what I think." he shrugs. At least that's what his mother told him. He always had a little more room to be the nice guy anyway. If people were just going to treat him as any other stranger afterwards then why not?

"Here's your room then, I guess." he says, nodding towards a room to his left, "While the hallways are pretty confusing at first, it'll be really easy to get accustomed to walking around. Your body would remember where to go eventually." he adds, looking towards the room. There were already students inside but all of them were just idly talking and laughing.

"By the looks of it though, I don't think your class is starting any soon."

"You're right, I guess we have a few minutes yet."
Wind put her hand on the doorknob. Her nervousness, which had dissipated a little while she'd been talking with Hal, came back and she accidentally covered the doorknob in ice and jumped back.
"Damn! I can't believe I did that!"
She took her backpack off and took a roll of paper towels out of it and tore one off, starting to clean up the puddle that was forming at the bottom of the door. She smiled sheepishly and said,
"Sorry, this happens sometimes when I can't control my emotions, my powers just come out."
