He muttered, "Yeah, you'd think so..." It was easy to think that being this way was cool and fun and unique, rather than the incredibly stressful thing that it actually was. Every day he had to look around in fear and make sure that nothing was going to hurt him. He had to be on his toes all the time, aware of everything around him, aware of every single little thing that might happen if he wasn't paying attention. Inattention wasn't allowed for someone who could break in tiny bits if they stopped paying attention for fifteen minutes.

"When I reform I come back fully healed. The only reason I don't just throw myself down some steps whenever I get cracked is cuz I basically die every time so... it's not fun." After he said that, he rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, that was kinda TMI, wasn't it? My bad."

He looked out to the sunset and relaxed his grip on his sketchbook, letting it rest placidly on his lap. If Eli looked towards him, she could see the boat that he'd been sketching so determinedly just before she came over. It looked just like the boat he'd been looking at. Next to it some drawing. It looked vaguely like a wave curling around an invisible cylindrical surface. "Sometimes," He said. "It's very pretty. Kinda calming too."

"Nah," Eliana said when he told her he thought he'd given too much away. "I asked, didn't I? means I'm interested."

When she flashed him a quick smile, she noticed the sketchbook on his lap. Her eyes drifted downward to stare at the drawings there. Eliana had never been a good artist. She didn't have the patience for a skill like that.

"Very calming," the demoness said. "Nice picture." So easily distracted was Eliana that she wasn't even paying attention to the beautiful horizon and ocean she'd just commented on. Now her sole focus was on his art. "How long did it take you to learn to draw like that?"

She kicked her foot a little, sending more ripples outward and splashing a light sprinkle of water. She wished the water was warmer; it wasn't cool by any means, but Eli didn't like things even lukewarm, she wanted them scalding. Reminded her of home.

"It's pretty much a complete replica," she continued.

Cardamon stared at the horizon and the setting sun, every now and again flicking his eyes over to the pretty girl sitting next to him. He tried not to blush, telling himself that even though she was so cute and so nice and so very tolerant of his weird appearance, someone like her had to have been in a relationship with someone. He tried to turn himself away from her. Curse him.

He looked down at his sketchbook. "Oh, a few years. I've been drawing since I was young so..."

Taking his pencil, he drew small connecting circles in the corner. "Although, right now I'm a sculptor and not, like, a painter or anything."

He ran a hand through his hair. "What about you?"

Realizing that his question probably needed a little clarification, he quickly added: "I mean, what do you like to do in your spare time?"

Elia thought a moment, more so about this whole few years thing. Nah, she wouldn't have been able to do that. Practice something like drawing for years. Oh how long he must have had to sit still! The very thought made her skin tingle. Then, he asked what she did on her spare time.

Answer: tons of things. Most of these things were illegal. She particularly liked stealing and lying, those were just fun. Most people didn't like that answer, though, so she generally gave something else. It wasn't a lie, not in the fundamental sense. So Eli smiled pleasantly, but she didn't move any closer to him, he got nervous when she did that, and said, "Too much, probably. I have trouble sticking to one thing. I like acting, dancing, spending time with friends. Lots of social activities for me, just can't stay away from people.

Cardamon hummed and nodded. He personally tended to like people. The only problem was that he tended to get too attached to people way too quickly. Not to mention that being a large group of people tended to mean that he was welcoming and number of dangerous situations. All someone had to do was hit him on the back too hard and send him careening to the ground for shit to go really bad.

Like, really, really bad.

"Yeah, I don't..." he tugged the string of his hoodie. "I don't really... ya know.... hang out a ton."

He regretted admitting that almost immediately. Now she would definitely think he was lame and weird and they would never be friends. The mild panic was evident on his face. "N-not because I never get invited to things! Just because... I uh... glass and... drunk people.... or parties.... bad time."

Eliana, of course, didn't mind that he was a total loner. She'd met plenty of those, and they had all been cute. Hell, her boyfriend was the loner type (not that she didn't drag him everywhere anyway.) "I'd protect you," she said in an airy, suggestive tone. Just enough to make someone wonder, but not enough to come off strong. She had the feeling coming off strong would just scare Cardamon.

Eliana's eyes lit with some thought, and she sat up straighter, thinking. "Hey, we didn't introduce ourselves did we?" She laughed a hint. "Here we are, chatting about sunsets and hobbies and we don't even know each other's name. I think we skipped a few steps."

She reclined on her elbows. "I'm Eliana Ria; it's a pleasure to meet you." She decided to leave out the whole royal demon thing for now. She was totally for freaking people out with that title but now was not the time. Cardamon hadn't done anything to her, and he was a real fuckin' sweetie, so the last thing she wanted was to creep him out.

"I'd protect you."

Cardamon couldn't really feel warmth, but the intensity of the pink that tinted his glass skin was enough to make him feel the sensation of being warm. It felt like he was made of jelly and not glass from her sweet words. He felt strange, actually strange, as his feelings curled and roiled in his stomach. He shifted in a little as he sat.

Of course, he tried to open his mouth and make a comment, but when he tried to say words nothing came out. Oh god. Ohhhh god. "Th-thank you."

Did his voice just crack? Oh god it did. Oh god his voice just cracked in front of someone who was actually really cool and pretty and--

Oh god kill him.

Shatter him into little pieces and throw them into the ocean.

He pulled up his hood and pulled the strings hard, hiding his whole face, except the tip of his nose.

He was quiet as he heard her name. Eliana. Damn it even her name was pretty.

"I'm... I'm Cardamon van Oranje-Nassau." His voice slipped easily into his old dutch accent as he said his last name. "But, just Cardamon is fine."

"Nice name," Ellyn smiled as he curled into himself. She hated it that he was doing that, hiding his beautiful face as if he feared her looking at him. She liked looking at him. Couldn't he see that?

Gently, Eli reached out and laid her hand on the top of his hood, trying to usher him to pull it back. "Why are you hiding your face?" Her voice was just a soft whisper, light and everywhere, like smoke. "There isn't a need for that, Cardamon." She liked the way his name tasted on her tongue, how it rolled off so smoothly. She wanted to speak it more.

"A Dutch name? And an accent to boot?" Interesting. He was interesting, both inside and out, it seemed. She was almost a jealous if she weren't already so proud on his behalf as if he were hers and the intrigue he received was for her benefit.

Cardamon was trapped in his thoughts. He kept thinking of how he'd screwed up talking to the nicest person he'd met in a while. He'd come off like a weird sheltered kid or something. It felt like he'd mis-stepped and that sensation drenched him. It felt like he was just making a joke out of himself to this amazing girl. It was the danger of being an Emotionlord. If he felt something he felt it strongly. So strongly that it clotted his senses so he couldn't see the world around him.

When he felt her hand on his head, he turned to look at her. It was hard to make out his features under the darkness of his hood, but his eyes seemed to glow with a light of their own.

As she spoke, he found himself shivering a little so the sweet lightness of her words.

"W-well, because.... I'm just.... making a fool of myself." He mumbled lightly. "You seem pretty cool and I'm just like..." He relaxed his hands and the hood loosened. "Iunno. I was always more like a loser."

"No, you're not," Eli leaned in a little closer to him, gradually closing the distance between them. "I think you sound awesome. You don't need to be all about social interaction to be cool. I've had plenty of people thing I was uncool for that," she said with a good intentioned wink. That wasn't the exact reason they thought she was "uncool" it had more to do with the crazy, let's-steal-things side of her.

The seemingly submissive boy was bringing out Eliana's kinder side. She had that habit, being gentle with those who seemed fragile. She liked fragile things; they were something to behold, and she hated the idea that she might be the one to break them. It had more to do with her than them, really, but it still could have been seen as a kindness.
