Her first reaction was to pull back, her second was to put on the cheerful mask, her third was to remark that she wasn't the only person with skeletons in her closet, and the fourth, and winning reaction, was to appologize. "I'm sorry Donovan. I guess my arm really hurts." she said quietly, slightly taken aback by the sudden stony quality to his voice. She slipped into the mantle of cheerful Nikki quickly and seamlessly, no longer dull or tired, but bouncy and bubbly. She inwardly winced, not too sure how well he'd take her sudden shift, but it didn't show, and even her eyes were happy.

She dashed past him, to a corner, and paused, looking over her shoulder at him, hoodie falling from her head with the sudden movement. "Left or right?" she questioned, before stooping to pick up the hoody, and replace it to where it had been on her head.

Donovan sighed and followed after her, he felt bad about having been so stony with her.
He smiled and put his arm around her shoulders guiding her to the left and down the hall out the door. He hadn't told her what they were doing but he was taking her to the city. While she'd been in getting her cast on he had picked up a newspaper and seen something very interesting. As they walked he dropped his arm to his side and looked over at her, still not looking like his normal cheeful self.
I'm sorry I snapped.

Nikki glanced up at him, looking very girlish and cheerful. "Not to worry. I don't hold it against you." she gave him a friendly hug, with one arm, and smiled, the smile making her eyes twinkle. Then she dropped her arm and rested her head on his shoulder for a moment, before lifting it and dancing away from him. "Now, are you going to tell me at least the direction we're going, or must I be forced to go with you blindly?" she raised an eyebrow, eyes twinkling teasingly.

She placed her good hand on her hip and cocked her head to the side, waiting for him to answer. The emotional shift was amazing, and appeared completely and totally authentic, for even her body language said so.

Donovan wasn't buying her act. Not for a moment. He hadn't known her long but he knew her moods wouldn't switch like that so quickly. But he probably would have bought it if it weren't for her hugging him and leaning her head on his shoulder. For a girl who had reacted so badly with him kissing her she would not have reverted to be so happy as to eniciate physical contact with him. He stopped and looked at her.
You can cut the act now. he said waiting to see if she really would.
Or, if it's not an act you can prove it by abliging me with one simple request.
He said and held up one finger and a cocky grin.
Another kiss.

She kept the mantle, until he asked for another kiss. Then it disappeared, leaving behind dark anger. She looked at him very directly, eyes not dull, but rather firey with anger, and when she spoke, her words were very tightly controlled, "Have a nice day."

With that, she turned from him, removing her hoody from her head and tying it around her waist one handedly. Her steps were even controlled, and thus she was moving far slower than she would have, had she not just broken her arm.

Donovan silently cursed himself again. He was JOKING!
He ran after her and carefully positioned himself infront of her throwing his arms out to the side blocking her way.
Nikki, I'm sorry, I was just joking. Please give me another chance I PROMISE you'll like the surprise!
He moved his hands into each other in a clasped position and did his best puppy dog eyes.

She paused in her stride for a moment to look at him darkly. "No," she stated, her voice still controlled, even in that one syllable, 'you've given me no reason to trust you, so I don't.' she added mentally. Then, she phased through him. Phasing through another human being felt like walking through cobwebs for her, so once she was out the other side of him, she brushed her arms off, but still kept walking.

Donovan shivered from her walking through him. Weirdest thing he had experienced to date. And he had experienced some seriously weird stuff.
He quickly shook it off though and ran after her. He stopped running when he fell instep with though and kept her pace.
What is it that I'm going to have to do to get you to trust me? Or even just like me? Really, I'm quite an interesting creature if you get to know me! he said with a grin.

She whirled on him, shoving him into the wall, channeling her anger into that one push. With that one shove, it was obvious that she was far stronger, physically, than she looked. She grasped the collar of his shirt tightly, desperately struggling for control over her emotions, and the struggle was apparent on her face. "I don't trust people. And I don't like people. They have a tendancy to die, or to kill my friends or to.." and then she froze, realizing what she'd just said.

Her hand dropped to her side. And there she stood in silence, unable to speak, or move, cursing herself for being so stupid. Her arm started to throb, and she closed her eyes, trying not to cry.

Donovan felt terrible he had a tendancy to make people feel bad. And now there she stood completely stoic looking as sad as when he had first met...not that that had been too long ago...still...he didn't know what to do....
He knew kissing was a BAD idea.
But he also knew talking was probably an equally bad idea.
So.
He did the only thing he knew he could do. He walked forward and wrapped one arm gently around her shoulders and neck in a comforting way, trying to avoid her broken arm.
Nikki...I'm sorry. I seem to cause you a lot of pain. I just want you to know, I'm not going to die, and I'm not going to hurt your friends, or you anymore.
With that he let go of her and turned walking away from her slowly, fists clenched angry at himself....

((OOC: This isn't a departure if you don't want it to be. You can stop him.))
