Class had ended about an hour and a half ago. After gathering his notes from the dorm, Devias decided to head to one of the academy's unused rooms. He had been there most of the week as it was the most peaceful place he could find within the premises. At least, the most peaceful place that provided protection against the elements. He wouldn't normally complain, but today he was going to sort a few things out and make a more detailed explanation on his notes about what he'd learned about this world so he could contribute to Sol's Archives.

As this was a path that barely anyone walked, Devias was reading over some of his older notes. The journey to the room was uneventful. He didn't run into anyone as he expected. But as he entered the room, he felt like something had blocked his foot from going forward, yet his upper body continued to go in that direction. He was quick enough to twist his body a little and land on his back so his glasses wouldn't shatter from hitting the floor.

The boy let out a groan as he sat up to see what had tripped him. There he saw a number of books. From the looks of it, it seemed that someone had stacked them up. Strange. It seemed someone was here recently.

The ghostly girl in the room hadn't thought twice about stacking those books earlier. Indeed, she thought no one really used these rooms, aside from the occasional skipping student, who surely would not want to interfere with her studying, It was, after all, intense - so intense she seemed to blank, socially.
Humming softly, she dutifully finished her page of notes on modern magic uses and sighed. One note done - two hundred more that needed alterations or rewriting. She had made a mess of the floor - books were stacked into neat little piles all in front of her, the unused ones as of now stowed away in front of the door. The problem was that there were so many books... Aswan liked it that way. More room to think, and spread, less blue light that might harm her eyes. Which, well, she shouldn't be all that worried about, considering the fact that she was long deceased....
It didn't stop her from preferring old books. The notes were better to read, anyways.
Suddenly, with a click and a long, even screeeeech, the door swung open, to reveal someone walking through. For a second, she thought it might have been Roland, coming to check on her - no, she reasoned. The figure had glasses, much like Aswan; Roland did not. Even worse was the fact that, not two seconds after barging in on her privacy, he had managed to disorganize the pile of perfectly-stacked reference tomes!
Letting out an annoyed groan, she surveyed the damage. "Can I help you?" she asked pointedly, with a razor-sharp glare at the newcomer.

Scratch that, someone is here. She turned to look at a girl he hadn't met before. She seemed somewhat odd to him, much like everything else in this world. "Beg your pardon. I hadn't expect anyone to be here. The last few weeks in this room had been rather bare."

The boy picked himself up and dusted himself down as much as he could before bending over to stack the books up again with extreme care but did so quick enough as to not let the air hang with silence any longer than it needed to be. The last book he picked up to see what it was.

Once he was done, he turned back to the girl with a monotone look on his face. "I don't suppose we've met before," he said, adjusting his glasses a little. "My name's Devias Hel'Sarie. These books look rather old."

Hmm... Devias. The name seemed somewhat strange, and yet it wasn't stranger than any other name she'd heard on this island. Nevertheless, she nodded, and with a still-kind-of-annoyed tone replied, "Pleased to meet you. My name is Aswan Gomari. Those are old - renaissance-era research on spirits and ghosts, tales of their abilities. Analysis of each time was.. Well it wasn't nearly as helpful as the more modern entries, though it does help with the historic portion." She cleared her throat, getting up to restack the books. "What are you looking for, in any case?"

Aswan? Wasn't that the name of a type of ghost or spirit in the Philippines? Interesting choice for a name.

Devias cracked open the book and started scanning the pages. If he recalls correctly, the renaissance era was a turning point in human history during what they called the medieval age.

Outdated information is as valuable as the most recent revisions, and so the young scholar was interested in what was written in the book.

When questioned on what he was looking for, he was a bit slow to respond, a little too focused on the book. "Oh, huh? I just came here to reorganize my notes before I send them to the archives. So far, we only had a single journal detailing this world, so anything I can send back would be valuable. This room was usually empty, and usually the hall leading here is close to being just as unused as the room itself, it made a perfect place to stay in. Do you come here often to make use of the isolation as well?"

Ah. It all made sense now. He was a researcher, in pursuit of history. Possibly a history major? Knowing this, Aswan relaxed a little bit, some of the sharpness of her glare leaving. "Ah.I see. Yes, this hall is quite isolated, save for the odd passerby. It is a near-perfect place to study, which is why I am here." A smug-ish look on her face indicated she was very proud of that. That she knew the best places to study, and as far as she knew, she knew more than Devias did, on the subject of human history at least. "You are welcome to revise notes here, provided you don't make more of a mess." A little chuckle. "I may even offer my assistance, if you would like to exchange information." With that, she turned and strode back to where she was sitting - a rather neat place. It kind of looked like a pillow fort... if Aswan even knew how to make one, that is.

Good to see that he ran into someone with similar thought processes. At least when thinking of a study venue. "Thank you, I appreciate the offer, and I'll try not to knock anything else over. I wouldn't want to damage any of these old materials."

He placed the book back on the pile where it belonged. As much as he wanted to read through it and get some more information on this world, he had prior concerns to tend to. He took a seat on one of the less damaged desk after dusting off the seat, carefully as to not kick up the dust.

"You know, I found a fairly quiet spot a little past the lake. It's out of the way, so it's pretty isolated as well. I'd be glad to show you sometime if you want to try out another location." he said as he laid out a couple of notebooks on the desk. They were all bound by a type of leather, finely crafted with unusual designs that would make them look like spell books. While that wasn't the case, the books themselves did contain some magic. He cracked two open, one was blank, and the other had a mix of intricate sketches of creatures, insects, plants and trees along with a few lines of their traits and other observations. A lot of these sketches were from things found nearly everywhere and wouldn't be so interesting normally. For now, he was just flicking through the pages, re-reading his notes.

[GAAAAAH I'M SO SORRY NAMELESSS I FORGOT IT WAS MY TURN AAAAA. POST FOR YOU!]

Dismissive nodding came from the slightly translucent girl as she leafed through her notes, occasionally stopping to scribble some random tidbit of information down on the paper beside her. From the look of it, it was written extremely neatly, with colors carefully placed about. "They are quite valuable in terms of knowledge bases," she remarked on the subject of the old tomes, sitting in.. Well, a fair amount of dust. "Valuable to many majors, such as historical or magical varieties. Feel free to take a look inside them, but really. Do not break them, they're fragile."
Careful as Devias was, he still kicked up a little bit of dust, and Aswan swatted at the air where the dust settled, trying to avoid breathing it in. And failing, a little bit - a cough escaped. A sigh accompanied it.
If she was being honest, the spot near the lake did sound to be quite isolated and study-friendly - but then, would the notes taken not have a risk of blowing away into the lake?
"Hmm. It will have to be tested by myself - so I may go, if this spot isn't already taken, if only because of the risk of the notes blowing away into the lake and being destroyed. Unless of course it is far enough from the lake for that not be a possibility?" She seriously doubted that, though.

[It's fine, Ashes, don't worry about it ^^]

Devias paused for a moment to double check the spot's distance from the lake. "It's a little close actually. I found the distant sound of the stream quite relaxing. I suggest bringing a paperweight to keep them from being scattered by the wind, and some type of surface so your notes won't be in contact with the dew on the grass." Devias didn't have that problem since he could easily make a surface to put his books and notes on with the help of his inherited magical capabilities.

He took another look at the old tomes, feeling a little bit of discomfort almost. Having been working in an archive for a while, and frequenting it even before then, he was appalled at the state they were in. They shouldn't have been this uncared for. Thanks to his almost stoic demeanor however, it was hard to see just what he was thinking. He could have easily been mistaken as simply taking an interest in them.

He decided to speak up. "Would you like help with cleaning and repairing these books?"

"Close to the lake?" Aswan asked, quickly shuffling through her notes, a flurry of little pastel post-its, to come to a map of the island. She looked it over, trying to locate the study spot Devias had mentioned... The girl had an idea of where on the waterfront it would be, but she said nothing, and instead nodded.
"Yes, obviously paperweights and a flat surface. Essential for working in about any situation," she remarked, "although the dew could present to be an uncomfortable learning space. It would be best to bring a soft surface as well such as a blanket, for arranging your work station."
If she were being honest, she would have appreciated the change of location and study pace, even at the risk of getting her notes wet and unusable. Especially since she could actually be seen and not have people behave erratically and fearfully at her presence here. She supposed one of those old tomes would be a good book for summer research, or just to gain more knowledge in general.
Devias chose this moment to speak up about the condition and repair of the books in question, eliciting a glance up to the Void Walker.
"If it interests you and keeps these books from being damaged or lost, then by all means be my guest."
