Jude wanted to know his classmates. He wanted to have the normal high school experience. He'd never been close with his old classmates, but everyone here was just as weird as he was (if not weirder), and he didn't have to hide anything. He could say and do what he wanted. He could go to a completely ridiculous drink, completely with tiny whipper cream horns peaking out of the side.

Which he did.

Because it was good.

Once he'd grabbed his drink, Jude headed over to a wall, grabbing a seat and making sure there were room for however many people chose to follow him down from the school.

Violeta was always down to hang out with other people. Hanging out in a place with people excited to meet each other and blanketed with the enticing aroma of fresh coffee was even better. She wasn't exactly following Jude but she had made her own way there and ordered a very simple dark roast coffee, black.

She unbuttoned her cloak and tossed it over one shoulder and went to sit near Jude. "Think they'll mind if I don't drink it? It'll just go to waste on me anyway," she grinned. "Maybe i'll just give it to someone else."

Everyone else was slow to arrive, which meant that for a bit, it was just Jude and Violeta. They'd talked a bunch before in the community center, but never really one on one, which lent the whole experience a kind of differnet feeling.

"You're transferring over from Remedial, right?" Jude confirmed. "There seem to be a lot of us doing the same thing. I guess it makes sense, since they want as many people as possible to get the senior year experience."

It wasn't going to be quite the same not having grown up with their classmates, but the idea was the same, right?

Vi wondered why other people hadn't shown up yet but maybe they were just being slow. The way Jude's emotions felt, like some unseen force was draped over them, always threw her off a little but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy talking to him and reveling in the wonderful smell of coffee.

She nodded, "Yep, I had a long talk with one of the counselors and it seems like moving to 12th grade from remedial fits the best. They're going to work with me for online classes if things get too... overwhelming with all the other students but it'll be as close to a normal senior year as possible." The senior year experience was going to be unusual for Violeta. She was really 20 years old, not 17 or 18, and with the decade gap between going to schools she just felt weird about it all.

Violeta kept her hands wrapped around the warm cup of coffee, but left it sitting on the table. She could smell it just fine from there and she didn't plan to drink it. "I don't really know what that experience is supposed to be like. I guess I'll just have to make it up as I go," she giggled. "Probably best that way- i'm terrible at planning things out. Just arranging to get a cute dress to surprise Eon with took a lot." Vi smiled happily at how that plan had worked out perfectly. It had been quite some time since she had worn something so nice. Possibly the first time ever she dressed up like that of her own free will.

"Making friends," Jude speculated. "And memories. That's what people mean when they talk about senior year. Pranks, but..." Jude wrinkled his nose a bit. "I'm not really interested in those. I'll leave the whole senior year prank to someone else. I just want to..."

He considered for a moment. "I guess I'm looking for the normal teenage experience? I think I'm going to run for student council this year, even though I'm pretty new. Run around the school. See some events. Consider joining some clubs. Things like that. Do you have plans?"

Violeta listened to Jude and laughed at him wrinkling his nose at pranks. "Pranks can be great, but the best part of course is all the reactions to the prank. I think i'd rather be enjoying that than planning it out." She grinned wide as she imagined being around a bunch of students laughing after some sort of prank had been pulled. Delicious.

"Making friends and memories is fun too, but I don't need to be in class to do that. I've got all kinds of friends just from popping around and doing my own thing. I don't know, maybe i've just forgotten what it was like to be in normal classes," she said while looking down towards her coffee cup. Man she really missed being able to drink it. Well, missed being able to taste it and feel its effects.

She looked back up at Jude, looking interested. "What kinda message are you gonna run on for the elections? I have to say Alma's speech last year was a really strong reason for me to vote for her. You'll have tough competition." Of course that didn't mean she wouldn't vote for Jude. The guy seemed pretty smart and trustworthy. "I don't know. I'm bad at planning remember? I want to try to do more with my singing. I really enjoy it. Maybe not quite as much as feeding or... a couple other things, but it's really fun. Maybe I'll try to do some performances if I can get used to being in front of a crowd. It's just tricky." Other than that she was hopelessly plan-less.

Jude technically knew everything he needed. He knew that pranks often caused reactions. He knew that Violeta fed on emotions. But no part of his powers snapped those two puzzle pieces together until he actually thought about it, so his initial reaction was one of confusion, his eyes scrunching together for a moment before he finally made the connection, relaxing once more.

"I guess you were out of school for a while?" Jude said. He wasn't clear what Violeta's life was like. She'd said a lot of things that had implications, but he'd never asked, and he wasn't sure how open she was to talking about it. Better to give a nice softball question and see how she reacted.

"I don't really have a reaction, honestly. I think I'm going to work with Alma, rather than against her. I'm very organized, and I have the whole perfect-memory thing going on, which means something like treasurer or secretary would be perfect. Fit for the job, bascially."

The confused look on Jude's face was priceless even if it was very brief and fleeting. Violeta giggled again- at least until Jude asked about her past. She was still smiling a little bit but the giggles stopped.

She didn't really hide her past too much, it just wasn't something she tended to describe in too many details because it wasn't an overly pleasant topic. "From when I was about 10 to when I got here on the island actually. I was taught things after I had to stop going to school but it wasn't really the same thing," she replied without sounding too upset. Jude was nice as long as she didn't veer into the more graphic details she would be ok talking about her life.

Oh, right. Violeta had kind of forgotten that someone could run for positions other than student president. Jude really would be great at being a treasurer or secretary- nothing would ever be forgotten. "I think you would make a great treasurer or secretary. Guess if you work with Alma you'll have a pretty good chance of winning. She's real good at planning things out and attracting people to her cause. You should still have some sort of platform other than you're really organized and can remember things though- it's not attention-grabbing enough."

She finally let go of her coffee cup and let it just sit on the table as she relaxed back into her seat.

It was a sensitive subject for her, but realistically it was a sensitive subject for a lot of people. Even for him. And she was taking it decently well. So he wasn't too worried about that, but when the conversation moved on to student council stuff, he took the out and let the conversation shift to avoid making her uncomfortable on what was supposed to be a more laid back day.

She had some good points about having a platform above and beyond Almas, and Jude winced. Because... well, he didn't have anything.

"I guess I feel a bit like I'm too new to know what really matters on the island. Like, I don't have a platform. Everyone else has something to say, like Alma does, but so far my platform is just hi, nice to meet you."

He could think of a lot of things he'd changed back at his old school, but that felt like a lifetime away.

Violeta certainly didn't mind that Jude allowed the topic to change without lingering too much on her history. Maybe some other time or pay when it was a little more appropriate to be talking about darker things. Ironic, given the style of the Forbidden Zone, but it felt like the day was supposed to be more cheery than all that.

"But aren't there a lot of new people here all the time? You could talk about being new and adjusting. I know that would have caught my attention after I first got here. And I didn't even have it so bad adjusting," she smiled and hoped that it was something helpful. Politics and campaigning were not things she thought about very much. She wasn't interested in being a leader or even a follower really.

She brushed some of her slightly wild hair out of her face and glanced around the room before returning her attention back to Jude. "I could help you put up posters or something I guess. Not really sure how much competition there is for secretary or treasurer but if you want help i'm usually running around doing random stuff."
