Gryphon wasn't doing much at this point in time. It was the end of the school day, so some students were milling around with their books and bags, flying or walking or whatever-ing around to get where they wanted to go at a chilled pace. Gryph himself would have been heading straight back to his dorm so he could relax after the long day of pretending he understood half of the classes he had been to, or he would have been heading to the gym, to dance and blow off some steam. He was glad he wasn't like that anymore - hiding all the time. He wasn't hiding now - sat on the bleachers outside in his teacher polo with a whistle around his neck. The avian man wasn't teaching at the moment though, just keeping an eye on some kids who were playing soccer and catching his breath.

It was then that he spotted something that made him do a double-take. Well, more someone. Gryphon wasn't sure he wanted to double check that it wasn't who he thought it was. Well, blonde hair, sharp features, fierce stance... it couldn't have been Kai, right? He was in his last year of college at Starlight, currently, but he had been told through a mutual friend that Kai made a point of avoiding the Academy as much as he could, so he certainly wouldn't be meandering on the sports field.

The sports teacher hesitated, before risking another look in the figure's direction.

((ooc: @Romi, hope it's okay that I placed him. If not, I can change it ^^))

Technically speaking, Havoc didn't need all the teachers to sign off. Really, if none of them signed off he'd be just fine. But Havoc had been effectively raised in the military, and that meant going with authority wherever possible. So even if he didn't know much about Gryphon, the fact that he was a teacher in the physical education faculty was enough for Havoc.

He hadn't been lurking long--he'd only shown up around the point class ended--but Havoc didn't plan to waste time. The moment it was obvious Gryphon was alone--around the time he started looking his way--Havoc simply headed right towards them.

"Mister Matsuoka?" Havoc called as he approached. Despite the fact that Matsuoka was a teacher, he looked to be around Havoc's age at the most, if not younger. Broad shoulders, almost the same height, Asian heritage... if not for their demeanor (and Matsuoka's obvious wings), some might have even mistaken them for being related.

"My name is James Havoc," Havoc said by way of introduction, not offering his hand. "I'm currently the student council president. I hoped to speak with you about the self defense program we're implementing?"

The blonde man started approaching, and Gryph could feel his mind racing in worry and confusion for himself, which may have translated into a rather interesting facial expression. He told himself to snap out of it as the figure called his name, taking a moment before responding appropriately, standing up as he spoke, "That's me. What do you need?" He may have seemed a little short, but that had nothing to do with James himself and moreso to do with Gryphon's useless blob of a mind.

As he got closer, though, Gryph realised he certainly did not look like Kai. There was a decent resemblance - they could have been mistaken for brothers - but this definitely wasn't Kai. That fact alone kind of helped him relax. He nodded at the name and listened as James spoke, and introduced himself as council president, but he was a little shaken by the seriousness of his voice. He seemed like a very stern individual. All the same, Gryphon flashed him a smile and tilted his head a little, "I would be glad to hear about it." He said, sitting back down and nodding to the side, motioning that Mr. Havoc could sit, if he wanted to.

He still felt uneasy. The avian just couldn't shake the feeling and he didn't like feeling nervous in times like this, where he needed to be more of an authority figure.

Despite this, the idea of a self defense program certainly wasn't a bad one. Gryph was easily a pacifist over anything else, but it was always good to know how to protect yourself. He looked at James and remembered Kai coming to his apartment with a black eye and a sore attitude after a fight, and had to shake that thought from his mind. "So, tell me more."

Havoc was, at the very best of times, absolutely awful at reading facial expressions. He registered that the teacher was having some kind of a reaction to him, but the exact nature of it remained a mystery. Not happiness. Not fear. Something that Havoc would instead have described as a 'mixed reaction' and made no further attempt to decipher.

Havoc mentally debated sitting, and then decided against it. Normally people offered a chance to sit as a courtesy, but he preferred standing where possible, so he did just that, his arms sliding behind his back as he settled into an at ease position.

Which, considering that Gryphon hadn't spent time in the military, would still be far too stiff and formal.

"Manta Carlos has seen an uptick of violence, committed both against civilians and against students. There was the abrupt disappearance of one of our cheerleaders, who is missing. There was the incident last fall at the hedge maze, at the New Years party, and most recently the terrorist threats at the quarantine. Students are jumpy and nervous. While any of them could certainly reach out and seek self defense training on their own, there are benefits to making it both free and accessible. The after school program will be heavily advertised, encouraging students to sign up in groups. It will be accessible to everyone regardless of financial situation, and will cater to all skill levels and physical capabilities. It isn't intended to teach martial arts, but instead practical skills that will allow students to feel confident that they can protect themselves."

To say the speech had been pre-prepared was an understatement, and the entire thing came off as slightly stiff.
