Spying another large cluster of mushrooms, this time Saffron Milk Caps, Azucena dug her pocket knife out of her backpack and bent over the mossy trunk of a fallen dead oak tree to dig out a few Lactarius deliciosus and gently placed them in a cloth bag she had brought along with her.

Wandering by herself through the main forest on the island, foraging to see if she could find new plants to catalog in her journal, or to gather to make salves, tinctures, teas or to simply eat was something Azucena Price enjoyed immensely.

In fact, she hoped to become a botanist one day and leave the island to go work beyond the veil since she was beginning to feel that Manta Carlos offered very little for somebody like her - a simple human without any powers. How could she ever think to compete with beings who had super speed, strength or could teleport anywhere in the blink of an eye? Not to mention the ones who could transform themselves, do magic, heals others, or were gifted to live many lifetimes, regenerate or never die?

The mere thought lately of even trying to compete with others made her sigh deeply at how inadequate she felt at times. And while she knew her sisters would say she was being silly and that she had lots to offer, Azu was beginning to wonder what exactly could somebody as unextraordinary as herself offer to others on an island full of extraordinary beings?

The woods on Manta Carlos were a lot like the woods from his world. Plenty of animals to hunt, and nooks and crannies to explore. He still had yet to know the woods like the back of his hand, and he still hadn't really been in the forbidden forest. Though that was mostly because he didn't want to worry Celeste.

Today he was just running today. There wasn't any real plan, he'd probably hunt something later. For now Azure just wanted to see if there was anything new he could find today. He was moving pretty quickly and the sounds of wolves could be heard in the general area. Azure did have a presence that was felt more often before he was seen. That would go for whoever's scent he'd just picked up too. The wolf child was moving to investigate.

It wasn't long before Azucena came into sight. He moved up a tree, balancing on a branch to try and get a better look at what she was up to. Herb gathering? Did people do that sort of thing here? Looks like they did.
"Um... hi there," Azure said as he dropped to the ground.

Azucena jumped and let out a small, but semi-loud startled noise, dropping her pocket knife on the ground at her feet when a young dark-haired man jumped down from the tree directly behind her.

"Azure?" Azucena stated hesitantly, her face flushed red in embarrassment as she looked at her classmate sheepishly, suddenly recognising him from school.

"I didn't know you were up there, in that tree," She admitted gesturing to the old oak tree behind him, still a bit mortified that she had reacted as she had at his sudden appearance.

"Oh... I uh just got here. I don't usually catch the scent of people around here..." he said. Azure did feel a bit bad about startling her. And she dropped he knife. That could probably be dangerous if she wasn't careful... maybe.

"Um I startled you... and that was bad. And you dropped your knife," he said awkwardly. He looked around as if looking to see if there was anyone else around. Of course there wasn't. "I guess we have a few classes together if you know me."

At the mention of her pocket knife, Azucena looked down at her feet to where it had fallen but made no attempt to pick it up - yet.

"It's okay. I was just, uh,... distracted," Azu admitted abashedly when Azure apologized for startling her. She knew she hadn't been paying attention to the world around her, and being what she was - a defenseless human - that was probably not a good thing to be doing.

"Yeah, we have Math and Language Arts together," Azucena said, naming off two common core subjects that they both had together. "You usually sit near the back of the room," she added as she finally bent over to pick up her knife.

Azure moved a bit closer, but not too close, something more to the tune of conversational distance. He wasn't really sure if he should stay to chat or just head off. This section of the forest was relatively safe for people, but still anything could happen. He also wasn't sure what to talk about. He didn't want to seem any weirder than he already did.

"So what were you doing out here anyway?" he asked after a moment. He'd also remembered he had the goal of becoming more sociable and open up to people a bit more. This seemed like a good opportunity for that.

"Collecting mushrooms, edible ones," Azucena replied as she placed her pocket knife in her backpack, adding as she looked at Azure somewhat shyly. "The island is full of them actually," she explained as she glanced around as if looking for something.

"See, those beige chubby, kinda stubby-looking mushrooms next to you, by the pine tree over there," she said gesturing to a tall pine tree to the left of Azure. "They are a type of porcini mushroom called boletus edulis," she explained.

Collecting edible mushrooms... ew. Azure visibly wrinkled his nose at that. Then again, if she wanted to eat them that was her business. He tilted his head at the names though. Mushrooms are mushrooms as far as he was concerned.

Humans were weird like that. He'd had it explained to him probably dozens of times regarding scientific names of plants and animals. But did they really need to break things down and organize them that much?

"Boletus.... why do they have such fancy names? You must really like them if you know all the names for them. Uh... that's cool. Do you come out here a lot?"

Azucena shrugged a bit awkwardly at Azure's question. "Boletus is just the name given to a specific group of edible fungi, sort of like calling all cats felines," she told him, knowing it wasn't exactly the same thing, but the analogy was close enough.

"I do," Azucena nodded enthusiastically. "It's sort of like I belong here somehow," she admitted, knowing it might be strange to admit to that. She was a human, she had no real connection to nature, not like others om the island.

"How about you?" she asked. "Do you come out here a lot?" she said, sure she had not seem him out here before, but the forest was huge, so anything was possible.

"Yeah I come out here pretty much all the time," Azure answered with a simple shrug. "Before I was here I lived in a big forest kinda like this one. There really weren't a lot of humans around."

People probably had heard something about Azure's tendancy to hang around in the woods. He was always particularly energetic when it was closer to a full moon. It was also probably obvious even without him saying anything about it that he had little contact with humans before arriving on Manta Carlos. All things considered though, he was pretty quick to adapt.

"Um..." he was about to say something, but paused. Would that be strange to ask to hang out? Other kids at school made it seem like an easy thing to do. How did they manage that? Wolves were social creatures so one would think he'd be a bit more forward with it. "Uh... we could like hang out. Out here I mean sometime..."
