Why is he so fidgety? Am I really that bad to talk to? No. Must be something bothering him.

"Nice to meet you Sam. If i'm keeping you from something just let me know and i'll leave you alone." He smiled warmly at Sam before turning his attention back down to Jacky as she rubbed up against his leg.

Tadashi knelt down and let Jacky sniff his gloved hand before he started scratching her head. He did his best to get at the areas right at the base of her antlers where he assumed she might like it. She was so much more friendly than the boy, he wondered if maybe she wasn't getting enough attention. It would explain why she was separated from him when Tadashi had found her.

At the sigh Tadashi looked back up at Sam, "Would you rather I didn't pet you friend here? She seems to enjoy it." He then raised one eyebrow, "You do realize i already told you I was skipping class. There's no need to pretend."

Jacky sat down next to Tadashi the moment he started scratching around her antlers. One of her back legs thumped against the ground a bit as if she had an itch there that she never could’ve got. She leaned her head into Tadashi’s hand a lot.

Meanwhile, Sam simply flinched. He then slowly shook his head. “I don’t need to be anywhere, except class... but I’m not going, no point.” He almost grumbled as looked down at the floor. The more he was around Tadashi, the more yet also less awkward and fidgety he looked.

Aha. I must have hit the right spot.

Tadashi was quiet for a moment while he enjoyed Jacky's happiness. After scratching at the base of her antlers for a bit he dragged his fingers back to scratch behind her ears. Everyone likes scratches behind the ears, He thought to himself.

If he had known Jacky better he might have offered to pick her up while he was petting her but that would have been a little too forward. Also Sam was standing right there and he seemed...well not angry or annoyed. Maybe embarrassed? Tadashi wasn't sure but he didn't want to upset him.

Tadashi thought maybe Sam wasn't all that used to talking to people, based on his fidgeting and awkwardness. It wouldn't have been the first person like that who Tadashi had tried to befriend and he decided a similar course of action would be best. He would avoid paying too much attention to Sam so that he wouldn't feel like Tadashi was staring at him as he fidgeted and he would just try to have as normal a conversation as possible.

"Well I don't think we're all that different then. Why should we bother with all the stress and worry of going to class and doing homework and stuff when we can just relax and not go? Though I do have to go to some classes- can't fail out or i'll never hear the end of it." He chanced a grin up at Sam. "What do you usually do when skipping?"

Sam sighed heavily. "You can pick her up if you want, she prefers that." He sounded mostly irritated, but not at Tadashi. It always kind of felt Jacky was centre of attention. Yeah Sam didn't want attention, but being sidelined for a jackalope always kind of felt bad.

He looked at Tadashi with a sigh. He sighs a lot, if you hadn't noticed. "I skip class for a lot different reason, I think." He had his hands in his pockets once again as he looked towards the ground. He did seem a little less fidgety though.

Jacky did indeed like being scratched behind the ears. Her leg continued thumping as she tilted her head into Tadashi's hand. Her eyes even closed because of how much she was enjoying it. She was practically slumping into Tadashi's legs by now from how much she leaned against them.

The irritation in Sam's voice was actually a little upsetting. Tadashi had thought he was doing well just talking to the boy and not putting too much pressure on him but he wasn't sure it was working. He wasn't going to be discouraged that easily, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt just a little bit.

Tadashi waited until Jacky was just a pool of happy fur, aside from the thumping leg of course, and then gently picked her up in his arms. With his gloved hands he had no concerns about being scratched by her nails. He held her close to his chest and continued petting her softly as he turned his attention to Sam. "Oh, well I guess the reason for skipping doesn't really matter. Unless there's something you want some help with?" He looked carefully, almost eagerly, at the boy to see if that was the case.

"Otherwise i'm not going to pry. Though," he glanced around at the empty hallway, "maybe we shouldn't just be standing here out in the open in case a teacher walks by?"

Sam almost groaned. Unless Tadashi could erase whatever magic that made him not be able to live his life, then no, he wouldn't be able to help him. "No... I don't need any help." He sounded a bit rude as he spoke, as if trying to deter from the subject.

Meanwhile, Jacky was just a little messy pool of fluff in Tadashi's arms. She didn't try to scratch Tadashi or anything and just enjoyed being snuggled.

Whoa, why is he being so touchy about this. I just offered to help and even said I wouldn't pry.

Tadashi's smile faded for a second and he looked back down at Jacky to hide it. "Fine, then we can ignore...whatever it is. Or I guess I can." There was a very noticeable pause where Tadashi's face dropped as he realized how that sounded and then he added quickly, "I'm sorry, that was really rude of me." Tadashi kept petting Jacky. At least he could help make her comfortable.

"Well your friend here," indicating Jacky with his head, "Is very cute. Thank you for letting me hold her." Tadashi managed to put a smile back on his face and look directly at Sam again. "Since i'm not going to be taking a nap now, I guess maybe i'll go get something to eat. Would you like to join me?" He was fairly certain Sam wasn't going to be interested but one could hope he was at least enjoying Tadashi's company at least a little bit.

Sam did feel a semblance of guilt. He wasn’t a harsh person by nature, it was just something he felt was necessary. If he didn’t bond with people, then it would be less people for him to cry over once he remembered once more. It would also mean less people to cry over him once he disappears.

Jacky was a fluff puddle right now but she still looked between Tadashi and Sam. She knew this kind of behaviour from him very well. She knew that he never kept by it, though. She hoped that he’d open up to people, but she also knew that would take a while.

Sam thought his words carefully this time. He honestly felt sick whenever thinking about eating without needing to eat. This did leave him eating basically snacks for an entire day, though. But he couldn’t muster the motivation to grab food, especially when he’d have to socialise as well. Besides, he was actually in a similar opinion to Tadashi and just wanted to sleep. “I’m sorry, but I’m gonna have to decline.” He was quieter again and sounded a lot more polite.

You really just want to be left alone. I get it, can't say I don't feel that way sometimes too.

Tadashi gave one last pet to Jacky before offering her back to Sam. He was deliberately handing her over to him rather than putting her on the ground. If Sam didn't want a person bothering him then at least maybe she could give him some comfort.

"Ok, then I won't take up more of your time. If you ever want to talk I'm a pretty good listener. I'm also good at just sitting quietly by someone without talking too. Enjoy the rest of your day Sam."

Tadashi had moved past his being a little upset at Sam. He was just trying to salvage the interaction so they could both leave happier than they were before. Maybe even keep the possibility of friendship open down the line. Once Jacky was safely back in Sam's arms Tadashi planned to go ahead and leave Sam to whatever it was he didn't want help with.

Sam took Jacky in his arms with a blank look in his eyes. Like, his eyes were eerily blank as he held her in his arms. Not just blank, his grey eyes just looked dead. He then placed Jacky down at the ground without saying anything. As soon as he let her go, the dead look in his eyes faded away. He just looked vaguely irritated.

He stuck his hands in his pockets again as he looked at Tadashi. He took a deep breath as he nodded. "Ok... Tadashi. You have a good day." He didn't say 'too' because he always believed his days wouldn't be good.

Sam then turned away from Tadashi. He simply waved as he walked away from Tadashi. He walked with a slouched posture, his hands in his pockets. Jacky followed after him, seeming to not be fazed by how cold he acted towards her. Sam was now going to find a quiet corner to sit in and to sleep.
