Alex let out a loud and annoyed sigh as she laid down on one of the couches nearest the television. Resting her head on the arm rest she rolled onto her side and stared at the television and taped her hand on her up turned thigh and concentrated. The tv quickly turned on and she began to flip through the channels using her telekinesis to change the channels.

It had been a rough couple of weeks for Alex, and it was beginning to show on her mood. She had discovered her telepathy seems to be getting harder and harder to keep in check, and what little ability she did have to control it seemed to ebb and flow with that damn menstrual cycle.

Worst of all her forth roommate Alice had left the school with no notice. That had hit Alex particularly hard. She was was rather fond of Alice. She had told her about her rather embarrassing secret and shockingly enough she had accepted her despite it. Or at least she thought she did, now Alex wasn't so sure. Alice's departure had hit her pretty hard, just as Alex was beginning to get used to being a girl, hell she was almost liking it, that happened. Every part of Alex wished the last few months had been just a really bad dream. She would wake up tomorrow back in her bed at a guy and not hearing the thoughts of every idiot around her. Not this stupid little body with it's squeaky little voice.

Sighing again stopped telekineticly channel surfing, nothing was on. Her life was such a joke.

Hotaru wandered into the lounge with a half eaten banana hanging out of his mouth as he carried his backpack in his arms and closed the door behind him with his foot. A few people looked up to recognize him as he walked in then went back to what they was doing. Someone coming in wasn't that important, no matter who it was. Unless it was a cop or something, that like wanted to arrest someone. That'd be fun to watch.

He looked around and decide on the Television as much as he didn't watch the stupid thing anymore, probably read a book or something. The TV was quite depressiong if you looked at it, all the commericals and propaganda that promoted the false gluise of society that everyone tried to follow. Weight lose and stuff, the horrors of the news, and just damn advertisements while you were trying to watch a movie or something.

Walking over he sat at the edge of the couch as there was someone else lying on it. Not giving them a notice he dropped his bag on the floor and picked up the remote that didn't seem to have been touched. The person didn't seem to be paying too much attention to the television so he decided to flip through it for a while. He glanced at the girl lying there and then back to the TV. "Scarnon?" He asked, after taking the banana out of his mouth, wondering if she would answer. He soon stopped at the American History Channel, at least it had some knowledging increasing value. Something about copper was on. "You don't seem very excited to be alive." Hotaru commented at the girl, well what was the worst that could happen from asking questions?

Alex was quite surprised when someone else came and sat down on the couch with her. She figured her ever-present aura of gloominess would keep any reasonable person at a distance. Down her body at him sitting at her feet and frowned, this time last year she would have been tall enough to take up the entire couch. Stupid tiny body, she complained as she mentally tried to stretch herself out, maybe one day I'll get a growth spurt and hit six feet again.

She did eye the boy curiously once she dismissed the complaints in her mind about her body for another time. There was something defiantly a little off about him and it wasn't just the physical features. She had been at this school long enough to see some truly strange physical features weirdly colored eyes and brightly red hair didn't phase her much anymore. It was his mind that was weirding her out. It she couldn't place her finger on it simply by reading his surface thoughts, but he just seemed somewhat detached to her.

“Meh.” Alex said in a deceptively sweet tone as she sat up on the couch, her back to the arm rest she was just using as a rather terrible pillow and pulled her legs up so she could rest her chin on her knees and rest her arms in front of her. “Sometimes I wonder if I really am.” She said absently. After all how did she know she was even really herself she could just be some failed lab experiment. The real her, the him, could be at home right now while she was dumped here to be forgotten. Alex knew that theory was complete BS but still right now part of her wished it was true. It would mean that her life wasn't taken from her and this is really where she was meant to be and her life wasn't cruelly taken from her by some crazy scientist. “IT would make sense.” Alex added not realizing she said that out loud.

Hotaru finished his banana as he watched the show as it explained how copper was used for the trucks that were used to mine the copper and some guy that worked in a query was explaining something about the trucks. Hotaru was half paying attention to that, the rest of his mind was wandering over the dictonary he read earlier this morning. It was mostly boredom if anything and not enough money to buy more novels. Maybe a trip to the library would suffice. His mind quickly scanned over every word he remembered, which was most of the book besides a few. He only skimmed it.

When the girl shifted he only turned his eyes like someone would notice movement, and gave it only an afterthought at that. She spoke and he listened to what she was saying. Wondered if she really was? There was so much he could say on that. "Names, bodies, minds, souls." He resited briefly as the show cut to a commerical. It was another one of his small bursts of sanity lose, only in the form of morals and believes though. Insanity was a cure.

"Names, to start with. That is and isn't who you are. You are who you want to be, but only yourself and nobody else. Your name is just the title that you go by. It isn't important but it is in the fact that Human beings connect who they are to their names. For example, my given name is Hotaru. I see it as a gift from my mother. The name I was given as a birth right is Kemikaza, received from my father who got it from his father and so on. Yet that doesn't make me who I am yet it is who I am." Hotaru explained as an off comment like this small speech was nothing to him, it was everything yet nothing. He has thought of it so many times it was just common knowledge to him. Though he once again retained his rage at the mention of his father, that man would die a bloody death the moment he came into contact with Hotaru's sight.

"Eh, I was going on again, wasn't I? Sorry." He said and smiled apologeticly at the girl and then leaned back against the couch and put the remote in his hand down. "I do that from time to time, sometimes. I'll stop if you don't want to listen." He said, some people wanted to hear more, others were annoyed with his mind's way of free thinking and shifted back into their state of slavery to society. Humans were so different and odd sometimes, he was an example yet the redhead thought of it the other way around.

Alex rolled her eyes as she listened to the red haired boy speak and introduce himself. She had to admit she didn't really believe what he was saying and was prepared to blow him off as nothing but a weirdo when he apologized for going on. Names? What names she had her name now for a few months now yes everyone still called her Alex but her name has been changed, hell even the way people say it seems to exude softness now. Body's and minds well she had already lost her the former and is feeling like every day she is loosing more and more of the latter. And soul? What soul, yes she knew just thinking that was probably making her very catholic mother cry a little bit on the inside but what did she care about that now she hadn't seen any evidence that there is anything anyone has that can even be called a soul.

She did have to cock an eyebrow at the boy now, Hotaru Kemikaza? Was he Japanese? With red hair and those glowy weird eyes, yeah okay that was a little more strange now that she realized that. What is he from the emerald Japanese isle, Alex wondered and almost, almost cracked a smile.

“Then let me ask you this Hotaru.” Alex finally said after several long moments of trying to dismiss what he was saying before it finally bugged her enough to speak up. “How can your name be what you are?” She added unintentionally confrontational. “Names can be changed or forgotten or altered...” So can bodies and minds she added silently knowing all too well how true that one was.

Hotaru grinned when the girl responded to him. Well, he had answers to that. He liked to let people dwell on it on their own, but he might as well answered. For fun he had a small fire burst into the air in front of him and he gave a small childish giggle. He looked like he could be ten or twleve at times, from his size. Oh well, he was use to it and just acted like his childish appearance once in a while. He'd say he acted his shoe size but he just didn't wear shoes.

"No, names are just who you are. I am nobody but Hotaru, Kemikaza Hotaru. You can pick your own name, or have it changed. They all belong to you, you pick who you want to be, but you're still yourself no matter what. I took the gift of a name from my mother and kept it, I have no reason or desire to change. That's my choice though. What is the title you go by, girly?" He explained then asked like it was a casual conversation like the newest cell phone or something. He was use to talking about stuff like this.

He glanced up at the walls above the TV. The commericals were annoying, just another sin of society that would someday collaspe and crush itself. "I'd go on but it sounds like you don't want me to. I bore some people sometimes as well." He said and waved his hand in the air dismissively. Small sparks of flames following his hand as he waved for his own entertainment.

Alex cringed when he called her girly. It felt like an emotional kick in the stomach or her now non-existent nuts. As much as she knew she was one and everyone else knows her as one it still felt rather uncomfortable to be identified as or called a girl. It was just so strange for her even now.

“Alex,” She finally said, “Everyone calls me Alex. My name is Alexande-rrr-dra. Alexandra.” She said catching her mistake and wincing. “It's the name I was given by my parents,” Thanks to an insane scientist she added silently, “Not exactly my choice.” She added ruefully. But that was another thing she just thought of her parents call her Alex everyone calls her Alex and even if she suddenly wanted to change she doubted anyone would actually call her anything but Alex. Especially her father, but that was a topic for another time.

As she noticed the rather odd boy try and worm his way out of the she glanced at the TV and wondered if it was distracting him. “No I'm not bored.” S he said only half true and telekinetically unplugged the TV, thinking it was ester than trying to telekinetically turn it off. “Go on.” She said waiting to see what more he had to say.

Hotaru nodded at the name and the fact that it wasn't her choice. He thought to himself for a moment. Alexandra huh? Well, it wasn't a bad name, he barely noticed that the was TV had been turned off and just nodded again when Alex asked him to continue. "Well first. Is there a name you want me to call you? You pick, if not Alex is the only one I know you by." He said and then stared up at the ceiling like he had dozed off.

"Well, I guess I will make this part of it breif. Don't feel like going into detail right now." He said sounding lazy, and then sat up and pulled his legs onto the couch to sit crossed legged and he put his chin in one of his hands and closed his eyes, all out of randomness to make it look like he was thinking hard. Or just cause he felt like it.

"Your body is a meh thing. It's just a shell that governs how well you have lived and how well you should live. It is mortal and just a connect of circuts and eletricity and then blood and organs. Just something, while the brain controls the body subconciously. The brain also generates the mind. Which in my own theory is a very flexible and unstable dimension corrected by your brain. Each person have their own dimension in their head, the Humans not having enough focus to control it and terraform it like one would this world. Instead it is random and limited to everyone besides those who have trained their mind in much focus and clearing it. It can also explain some mind reading or telepathic communication. A power that allows someone to bretch into someone else's dimension to a limit or full force degree, depending on their power." Hotaru explained quickly leaving out a lot of details he has complied in his years.

He had more to go on about the soul but he wasn't going to get into that. "Soul... well that just contradicts a lot of things yet is explainatory but that's something for another time." He said as he opened his eyes and put both hands on his knees and smiled at Alex, or whatever she wanted to be called. His little explaination was done now, but he could have gone on for an hour. Then he noticed the TV had been turned off. "Hey, who turned the tube off?" He said and pointed at it, he sounded very curious about it as well. "Oh well, the TV is mostly negative anyways."

“You might as well just call me Alex.” She shrugged everyone else does and right now she wasn't in much of a mood right now to run around changing her name again or picking something else to be called. Part of her felt that that would finally be admitting defeat that she will be stuck like this forever. And she just didn't have the psychological fortitude at the moment to admit it then.

She did listen with some interest as he explained his philosophy on life. Nodding and shrugging at certain points along the way. As interesting as his theories on telepathy were she couldn't really agree with them, they just went against everything she experienced with the subject as a psychic. Not that it is really his fault it's something she knew he had very little first hand experience with. He was like some blind person describing Van Gogh or a deaf person listening to The Beetles.

“Meh,” She shrugged as Hotaru asked who turned off the TV, she probably could have spoken up but it seemed more amusing to leave him in the dark about it. “I don't really agree with that sentiment. All we are is animated meet being kept fresh by a bunch of electrical impulses in our brain. Everything else to me is just perception and a quirk of the mind we are too limited to perceive.” She paused again taking a deep breath as she considered what she just said. Did she really believe that whole hardheartedly? “Not to belittle our lives or make things seem insignificant.”

Hotaru laughed slightly. "That is pretty much what I said, oh well. Guess you didn't understand Hotaru-a-ness." He said and stood up and grabbed his bag. It was summer and only a few people were actually doing any school work. The people that wanted to get ahead and those locked in summer school. The rest probably had jobs or something. Hotaru was just bored, so he decided to learn and work. Educations were very important to him, going by the fact that a lot of people were bumpling idiots when you actually looked around.

"Well, I'mma go do something with my life. You're welcome to join me if you want or if you have any suggestions. I got half a summer to do what I could do anytime, I don't mind hanging out or anything. Your call." He said and slugged the backpack onto his back and looked around the room. He wondered if the MMA club was doing anything, he should keep a better schudale or something like that. He would have to attend if it was important, being the captain of that club got annoying sometimes.

"Beep beep boop." He muttered to himself with a happy smile, he was halfly lost in his own little world now. "That's Martian. For Clean and Rightous." He said as he seemed to walk out of the room carelessly and in an odd form.
