Ryuk was still a bit concerned, but seeing the grin, as well as being reassured, made it hard to stay in that mindset. Instead, he smiled in a relieved manner and gently patted his shoulder. "I'll take your word for it. But I'm never, ever splashing you, either."

He pulled back to watch the display of feathers, clearly entranced by how pretty they looked as they danced with gravity, eventually falling to the ground. He grabbed one by the quill, and proceeded to do as the other did- dip it in water. Only, this time, for less time.

Once the feather was out- and remained intact- the merman gave a delighted squeal and hugged it to himself, nuzzling it while looking up at the other male in delight. "Thank you!" He thought to him happily. "One day I will find a way to touch your wings. They look like they would be fun to cuddle!"

William found happiness in Ryuk's happiness. The feeling was contagious, but in a good way. "I'm sure you will," he said. "And I'll gladly help you find out how to do that." It seemed to be a decent short term goal before he found something to work towards at the academy.

The thought of the academy directed his gaze to the sky. The sun had barely moved, which was a good sign for William. He turned towards Ryuk, who was still clutching on his feathers. "Surely they can't be that soft, can they?" He picked up one of the feathers, and was surprised to find that he had never known how soft they were.

"What should we do now?" he asked. "I still have some time left before I have to go back for classes."

William's agreement to assist him in his efforts caused an unbelievable surge of joy in the young merman, causing him to let out a high-pitched, but cheerful whine as he offered him a huge smile. "I'd love that! And we could cuddle more. Thank you for your assistance! They.. really are wonderful. And soft. It makes me almost wish I had wings, instead of a tail." He stuck his tongue out at him with this, though it quickly devolved into giggling.

However, then came a very important question- what should they do? Ryuk usually would suggest they play in the water, but that wasn't an option. They couldn't just stand here like idiots the entire time either, and cuddling was sure to get boring after a while. Even if Ryuk wasn't entirely sure he could get bored of it ever, himself.

"Mm..." He hummed to himself, eyes downcast as he thought hard over this. "I know there's a few places to eat in town, if you're hungry.. we could go to one of those. My treat! Or we could build sand castles!" He smiled at this thought. He did somewhat cheat using his water abilities, but he was quite good at building sand castles. He then offered a half-shrug, though. "But I'm also up for anything you want to do, too." Really, he just didn't want to say goodbye yet. Anything to give them more time was appreciated.

William picked up three more of his feathers and examined them. Their golden surfaces gleamed in the sunlight, and he had to turn them away so that they wouldn't blind him. He began to turn them absentmindedly as Ryuk spoke, and a subconscious smile formed itself on his lips.

At the mention of someplace to eat, William perked up. "When you say 'places to eat,' are you talking about a restaurant?" he asked. "I'd learned about them in my studies about Earth, but I've never actually been to one. I'd love to go."

With that said, William went back to examining the feathers. He wasn't sure if it could be considered narcissistic to be enchanted by his own feathers.

Ryuk was more than happy to see William enjoying his own feathers. The merman felt he should love his feathers, as much as he should love himself. That, and they were beautiful wings. He wasn't going to let him ever forget that, ever. It's what friends did, after all- and he wanted to be a friend, for the demigod. A good one.

However, thoughts of such pleasant things were pushed aside when William agreed to go eat somewhere with him. It caused him to let out an excited giggle as he reached for the taller man's wrist, so he could tug him along.

"That's perfect- come with me, I know this place- I just went a few days ago, and it was wonderful! Called.. Wild Specks.. or Spice.. I think." He paused a moment, genuinely struggling to remember the name- but shrugged it off with a giggle. "Oh well. I remember where it was, at least. And don't feel too embarrassed about not being to them before- I hadn't been to one before coming to the surface, either!"

Ryuk giggled. He did a lot of giggling, but that wasn't a bad thing. In fact, it made William want to giggle, himself. He took in the boy's seemingly unconditional happiness gratefully, as it lifted his already high spirits immensely.

Ryuk reached for Will's wrist, which he gave to the merman without hesitation. He was then pulled along. As Ryuk began speaking again, William zoned out. He was amazed by the fact that Ryuk seemed brighter than him, and that was saying something. The boy's brightness seemed to dwarf his own, but Will thought he was fine with that.

William had made a genuine friend in less than ten minutes, and as long as Ryuk stayed around, he was sure that his time on this island would be that much better.
