The party was just getting started, but already people were piling in. One wall was dedicated to a set of tables packed with food from local businesses and restaurants. An open buffet, as it were.
The whole of City Hall's auditorium had been turned into a party space, with streamers and other colorful decorations hanging from the ceiling and walls. The stage was set up with speakers and lights as the first of many musicians and DJs set up their equipment to start playing their music.

Security was tighter than last year, with the New Year's Party and the March Virus fiasco still fresh in everyone's mind. But the security didn't seem to impede the party at all, save for those who might look to start trouble.

Cordelia Moore stepped forward onto the stage, microphone in hand. She gave a warm smile out to the crowd and spoke, a hush temporarily falling over the dozens of conversations throughout the room.

"Hello Carlosians. Here we are again, Founder's Day. It has been a particularly rough year since the last time we all met here. We have gone through a number of trials, both as individuals and as a community.

But we have persevered, as we always have. I am proud of the school and this city and all it has become. Not a day goes by that I am not thankful that we have this place to call our home, where we are free to live and come together in ways no one could have ever imagined.
So eat, drink. Enjoy yourselves. Get to know someone new. Take on a new perspective. And take some time to reflect on the challenges we face and how we overcome them. Together. Happy Founder's Day."

Stepping back a bit at the rise of applause, Cordelia motioned for Inscius, one of the business owners who had helped make the party possible to come up on stage.
She passed them the microphone and encouraged them to say a few words as well.

Inscius had stood off to the side with other business owners when the headmistress spoke. They smiled at some of the memories the speech brought up - seeing Manta Carlos evolve was something they hadn't dared to forget.

"Thank you, Miss Moore. A Happy Founders Day indeed! It's always delightful to see the event brought up by the community here, everything provided by the island and for the island." They grinned. "As a voice of the business owners who've helped make this possible, we hope you all enjoy everything we've prepared for you this Founders Day and we hope to see you all around as we celebrate with you. Happy Founders Day!~"

Isra Felle Gold smiled and applauded the two speeches. The archangel was glad he was able to attend the festivities and see the anniversary of his new home, even though he might not be around for much longer.

He headed over to one of the tables for a refreshment. In the crowds, Isra was careful to keep his wings tucked in tight, and the angel's blurry image made him quite forgettable.

William was not one for parties. Generally, he avoided them unless he was looking for people who were too drunk to stand or likely barfights. He suspected none of those would apply here. But he was new to the Island and he really needed some patients. He was actually a good doctor. He would've certainly been caught by now if he fed off all his patients.

The wraith fidgetted with his gloves as he scanned the crowd. He had fed recently enough that he would not be overly agitated by the crowd, but not so recently that his demon would be able to poof out and cause trouble. He didn't see anyone familiar, but his eye was caught by a blurry-looking figure at one of the tables.

Maria's reaction made him suspect it was an angel of some sort, yet he was drawn to it. He tasted illness - could angels be ill? He walked towards the figure, curiousity getting the best of him, though Maria attempted to drown him in fear. He got just close enough to be able to speak, "Excuse me, sir?"

Isra turned, careful to steady the flute of juice in his hand.

"Oh - ah, yes?" the angel replied. The man reminded him of the family physicians that would visit the palace once in a while, so, a doctor? Isra mildly wondered why this man approached him (in an openly curious and friendly way).

William paused for a moment, not sure what he was planning on saying. And Maria overloading him with fear was not helping his thought process. He could most definitely taste something like illness on the other man. It was absolutely fascinating, especially since the demon in his head was making it quite clear that the other man was some sort of angelic being.

Fighting for some degree of calmness or the apearance of it, William held out a gloved hand for a handshake. "Dr. Brown, Sir. You seem... different." And then because people on this island seemed to be quite open about what they were, he felt it safe to ask, "Are you an angel of some sort?"

At that, Isra laughed. It was light and bell-like, delicate, and the angel said, "Why, yes, Dr. Brown, I do happen to be an angel." He held out a hand, not the one holding his drink. "Professor Felle, slave to the books at the Academy, and substitute teacher. How may I help you?"

Leandro smiled happily, applauding the speaches, it had been years sense he'd last been on Manta Carlos. He'd come back with his clan to finish school, so he'd be staying a while. He tilted his head to the side and then to the other, allowing the sounds to form a moving picture of the area in his head.

He started to move about the croud, did so as easily as anyone who could see, his nose twitching a little as he picked up the scents of the room. Leandro liked parties, loved being social, talking to people, the dancing, everything it brought.

The wraith shook the angel's hand uneasily. Even though he had been the one to offer a handshake, and was not worried about accidentally draining an angel, the demon's vulnerabilities, which he shared, just screamed danger at him. Not to mention he was still fighting terror. Maria obviously didn't want him to talk to Isra, which meant he was even more determined to. Besides he was fairly certain there wasn't anything to fear here and she was just messing with his emotions to be aggravating.

"You are an angel..." The doctor was still somewhat surprised by this. He licked his lips unconsciously, double-checking the taste. "Sir... I wasn't aware angels could... are you aware you are ill?" He wouldn't usually be so bold, but he was curious and agitated. "And what exactly do you mean by a slave to books?" He guessed that was a metaphor, but one couldn't be too certain in this place.

"Ill?" Isra repeated, bemused. He supposed that was one way to put his situation. "I do not think I am sick. I am, however, suffering from injury." He gestured to himself. "Thus my current state. As for the books, no, I'm simply the librarian."

The angel grabbed a small plate of what appeared to be salad from the table, finishing off the last of his drink. He set down the empty glass, smiling at the vendor. Isra turned back to William.

"I haven't made any progress towards getting better though. I moved here hoping to come across a cure, but..." he trailed off with a helpless shrug and slightly wistful eyes. "Honestly, if I had to choose a place to go, I couldn't have chosen a better place than the islands here."
