For the Food...

For the food was a nutrious item that no one should deny.

For the food was an item of want whenever you were starving.

For the food was a vital thing in life that they should have.

Darren just stared boredly at the cafeteria lines, wondering if he should eat, and if he was, what he should get. The fourteen-year-old brushed back a strand of his thin cinnamon strands and trudged unwillingly to the line.

If he had a choice, he'd skip out on eating at all. But he needed nutrients, and he was feeling faint in the head anyway. Maybe he wasn't eating enough, he reasoned.

'You're sick. Just eat something, Darren.'

He almost jumped at that sound, and looked around for the source of the voice. Then, he blinked.

Oh. It came from his head. Darien again.

'Stop popping out of nowhere,' he sighed, and he took a piece of bread from the counter, 'I'm fine.'

He could almost imagine his twin's frown. He wasn't too convinced.

Suddenly some of the muffins in front of him at the front of the line and some of the other food floated out of the display and into the waiting hands of the dark, tall and menacing teen a few feet away floating next to one of the open tables.
Clearly this was an unfair thing, since everyone else had been waiting in line, but Judas only laughed and munched on one of the cookies he had floated over, eyeing Darien warily.
"You know, staring off into space is the first sign of schizophrenia, comrade."

"Schizophrenia...?" he blinked. Was that talking to himself?

No, he never talked to himself. Right? Darien couldn't suppress a giggle.

He noticed that the food was floating off the counter, that was probably that guy's powers; some psychic thing. Darren didn't really care, seeing how people in this academy were pretty much sorta like freaks of nature anyway.

"If you don't mind, but who are you?" he asked, slightly irriated that he was listening to his twin's annoying laughter. Not only that, but there was a stranger who accused him for... something. He didn't know what it was.

(At least, I don't know what it is. Took me forever to type out the word correctly.)

Judas chuckled lightly, eating a bit more food. He ate it in quite the strange way, not touching it, instead floating it in front of his mouth and cutting it with his mind as if he had invisible hands and utensils.
"Oh, just a fellow student, you know I consider myself almost a guardian of our fine academy. Think of me as your senior, the guy you can look to for good advice or if you ever need help. Figured you're either new or I've been gone too long."
He paused, scratching his chin as a cookie floated into his mouth, chewing on it wistfully.
"Anyway, I noticed you seem kind of...spaced out. Not a good sign, your internal engine has some kinks."

"Sure, senior," he cocked his head, taking a bite out of his bread, and stared intently at the strange teenager who was... eating things off the air, or something like that. Did he have that much control to be that confident in controlling his powers?

"And... wha? Don't I have a right to be spaced out?" Darren shrugged, not really caring what Darien was doing at all.

'That's pretty impressive. He noticed me.'

He stopped in mid-bite. Then his eyes darted to the other teenager. Did he really notice?

Judas tapped his index finger against his chin, his brow furrowing as if he were in some exaggerated pose of 'in thought'.
He then smirked, gazing deep into Darren's eyes with his disturbingly cold and emotionless eyes.
"Well, in a normal school, I suppose you'd have that right and there'd be no problem...but..."
He smiled, a muffin floating in front of his face and then exploding into thousands of crumbs that stayed stuck in their place, like a tiny galaxy of sweet bread stars.
"...this is no normal school. I warn you, because I think you're a worthy fellow, this is a very dangerous place. Those who aren't alert, could be killed at any moment...there are vampires, cruel mages, madmen, psychopaths...not to mention the coming war. Be wary. Wherever you go or whatever you think when you space out, ignore it, it could be your undoing."

Wars?

'That guy's kind of strange... I haven't seen anything abnormal lately...'

His frown straightened into a thin line; a war? There was a war...?

'Darren? Something bothering you?'

Darren averted his eyes from the cold stare of the older male. "Not to worry; I'll attempt to avoid dying."

Sure, he could handle madmen, psychopaths, and killers well enough. If he'd only run away. Plus, Darien would have something to say about his younger brother dying. But warring?

What was it for?

"I saw confusions in the line of that frown and in the way you look away...you really must be a new arrival, and I was afraid I was simply going insane. Pity that already happened long ago, but I digress."
He smiled.
"As for the coming war, yes...the academy is in a bit of an upheaval, I must say the times look dire. It's a bit of 'choose a side or die a horrific death' type thing, not as fun as hopscotch and volleyball and all that."

"Then, the academy's in war?" he raised a brow, and he looked at his shoes against the tiled floor of the cafeteria. "Haven't heard..."

'I'm not letting you die a horrific death, Darren, you can count on that.' Darien's voice seemed icy, determined. The younger twin countered with a blunt statement,

'I'd rather stay neutral.'

"Still, I'll be on the lookout, senior," he sighed.

Judas nodded patiently, as if addressing a child.
"One should hope you will, anyone who doesn't choose a side is crushed in between the two sides...Simply enough they are the 'Rebels' and the 'Angels', the former seeking to destroy the academy and the latter seeking to protect it."
He paused, chuckling.
"Rather cliched causes, the both of them, black and white, no gray. Tell me, which side do you presume I'm a member of? I'm curious."
