For the food was a nutrious item that no one should deny.
For the food was an item of want whenever you were starving.
For the food was a vital thing in life that they should have.
Darren just stared boredly at the cafeteria lines, wondering if he should eat, and if he was, what he should get. The fourteen-year-old brushed back a strand of his thin cinnamon strands and trudged unwillingly to the line.
If he had a choice, he'd skip out on eating at all. But he needed nutrients, and he was feeling faint in the head anyway. Maybe he wasn't eating enough, he reasoned.
'You're sick. Just eat something, Darren.'
He almost jumped at that sound, and looked around for the source of the voice. Then, he blinked.
Oh. It came from his head. Darien again.
'Stop popping out of nowhere,' he sighed, and he took a piece of bread from the counter, 'I'm fine.'
He could almost imagine his twin's frown. He wasn't too convinced.
