He laughed again, and squirmed in her arms, his tails trying to continue their demonic tickles. Soon enough though, he accepted his defeat and relaxed, tilting his head to look up at her.
Shay gently tapped his nose in a mild scolding before letting him go. "Change back," she said mildly. "I can't keep up a conversation with a fox."
She sat up again, back against one side of the den. Shay wished the ceiling was high enough that she could have raised her arms ina yawn.
Kenta nodded and crawled over to the other side. He sat up, looking at her for a moment before poofing back into his human form, though he was still sitting in the same way. His tails continued to sway and he was smiling.
"You know, one day turning into a fox when I'm getting intense isn't going to work," Shay frowned. She stared at him for a time, debating something internally. "When I first met you, you were a lot more confident than this. What happened?"
"Huh? I..." His tails stopped swaying and his smile fell. "I... don't know. I just didn't want you to be mad but... What I said seemed to make you more mad... I don't want Shay-shay mad at me..."
Shay sighed. "I'm not mad, Kenta, just a little frustrated and sometimes intense. Besides, even if I did get mad at you, it's not like I would stay mad forever."
"mm..." Kenta nodded. "I know, but... I dunno, I just... I didn't know why you were mad... Frustrated I guess... so... I didn't know what to do." He told her, trying to explain his logic. "I wanted you to be happy again and... You always seem happy when I turn into a fox..."
"It's a band-aid fix, but...thanks." Shay smiled at him, scooting a little closer and nudging him with her shoulder. "I, uh, think I should get home."
He nodded and smiled halfheartedly. "Yeah... I guess we've been here a while, haven't we?" Kenta went to crawl out, but popped into his fox form before he got to the thorns. It was still hard getting by with his tails, but it did reduce the amount of thorns he had to pick out on the way out. Once he was on the other side, he turned back to normal and removed the thorns while he waited for her.
Shay didn't usually notice the thorns, but she had very little they could catch on, and her skin was almost always covered in thick leather or other strong material. When she was safely on the other side of the thorn bushes, she smiled at him. "Am I ever going to get to meet Laetus?"
