Thomasin followed close behind Masami. She wasn't used to walking around the strip, or anywhere, this late at night. In many cases, it was rare to find her out after the sun went down. Tonight was an exception though. It was a chance to try something new and maybe make friends. For her, this meant a chance to experience the world of Manta Carlos in all of its glory. It also meant a chance to let her guard down for the first time in years, which for Thomasin was both exhilarating and terrifying.

She had hoped her inexperience was not so obvious now as she gawked at the brightly colored signs, oddly dressed people, and generally unique nightlife that was the strip. In many ways, it was exactly what she thought it would be, but in others, it was entirely different from anything she could have imagined. This was not the kind of place she would have visited on her own, that much was for sure. Luckily enough her guide seemed knowledgeable, and she couldn't help but marvel as he navigated along the streets, passing by bars and clubs alike. He was a man on a mission. A bloodhound on the scent of his quarry. It was almost as though his instincts were guiding him, his path chosen by experience from countless other hunts before this.

Before long they arrived at a place. A small little hole in the wall of a bar. It was the kind of place that if you didn't know what you were looking for, you might walk right on by. Thomasin Followed him down the steps leading off into a sort of sunken patio, and then through the door. The lighting in here was dim, relaxed and casual. Music streamed from the speakers, though it was not loud or overbearing. Several tables and booths were aligned here and there, and a row of high stools lined a linge long bar counter. Behind the counter was a man, or maybe it was a woman, She couldn't tell and had no interest in asking. Behind the bartender was a large mirror, as long as the bar, and a shelf below it with hundreds of bottles of all sorts of liquors and spirits.

Right away she knew that trying to sit at one of the bar stools wouldn't work out for her, so she pulled gently on Masami's sleeve and gestured to one of the nearby tables. It was averagely sized with four chairs and a few coasters sitting out on it, each one advertising a different drink. Without waiting for a response she went and sat at one of the chairs, taking care to tuck the bottom of her dress neatly under her, as well as to position herself so that her tail would run alongside her legs.

"So, Zis is nice. I mean. I ave never been in a place like zis, but I like it." She said with a happy smile. In truth, she was surprised at how comfortable she felt. Granted she was a little unsure of things, but she had assumed that she would feel even more out of place here. "Zank you for inviting me."

Masami didn't often drink with others. He was typically surly when he first got to the bar and just wanted to be left alone when he did start drinking. Tonight was an exception. Tonight, he was actually feeling decently good about himself and wanted to actually have a good time. He had invited the young woman now across from him on a whim, and he only now vaguely realized that his intentions might seem less pure and up front than they were.

"Don't mention it," he said as he called someone over to get the first round of drinks. Shots of rum and a pair of beers. She didn't have to have any of the rum but the beer was for her at least, and he said as much. "One of the beers is yours. If you haven't drank before it might not taste great. You can get water if you want. I just appreciate the company."

It wasn't long until drinks had started to arrive. Rum in small glasses that she assumed was what people called shots, and a pair of bottled drinks that he said was a beer. Masami had even gone so far as to mention that she might not enjoy the taste and if she wanted water that she could. Thomasin had made the assumption that he tastes might be a bit offensive tonight. That wouldn't be a problem for her. Instead, she was bound and determined to do this that the taste wouldn't matter. She was going to give it her best shot, no pun intended.

With a smile and a nod, her scaled hand reached out to grab the beer and pull it towards herself. "It' is a pleasure to accompany such a gentleman." She said with a smile as she put the bottle to her lips and drank. To date, Thomasin had never had a beverage like this. It was carbonated but strong. The bold flavors gripped at her senses and she nearly choked on that first drink.

"Oh. Oh my..." Thomasin stammered for a few moments as the flavors faded. "Zat was..." She seemed to struggle with the words, torn between compliments and criticisms. It just seemed that she didn't have the needed words to describe her first beer. "Zat was not unpleasant." She said with a smile before taking another quick sip, and putting the bottle down.

"Ze next will be on me." Thomasin winked playfully as she spoke "So. Ow about we get to know each ozzer better? I will start." She giggled happily as she leaned back comfortably in her chair. "As you know. My name is Thomasin. My family name is Wynter. I grew up in France, And worked as a Courier. I never Met my fazzer, and was mostly not liked as a child. But now I am ere, and I am feeling much much better." It was easy to do an intro. All the basic information was pretty much public knowledge as far as she was concerned. Mostly though she hoped her own talking would encourage Masami to talk about himself.

Masami took his first shot, not even wrinkling his nose at the burn and bitterness of the rum as it went down. But not wanting to let the flavor sit on his tongue too long he chased it with a sip of his beer, watching Thomasin as she seemed to enjoy her apparently first ever beer. He didn't exactly believe that but he also didn't care enough to say it aloud.

He snorted a bit as he put his beer to his lips to keep drinking. She was one of those then. Talkative. Liked sharing stuff about herself. Masami sighed and set his bottle down. "I could tell you're French. Never been myself, but I've met a few people from there originally. Seems like a nice enough place."

"Guess I'd be impolite to not share something back. You know my name. I'm not actually from anywhere on Earth. Nowhere you'd know, probably. I didn't get banished or lost or whatever I just... decided to leave."

Masami knocked back another shot, enjoying the warmth in his cheeks that was beginning to rise.

Masami was from space. That was actually shocking. Granted she knew very little about otherworldly beings, but he was certainly not anything she expected. There was a certain lack of tentacles or ray guns that she had come to associate with extraterrestrials. Also as an oddity, he had chosen to leave his home. In a way that was similar to her. She had left the village of her own choice to seek out a better life. Maybe they had that in common, though it would be silly to assume until she knew more.

Thomasin held her beer with both of her tiny hands, taking another sip. Only a few moments had drifted by since her first drink, but even now, things were starting to feel easier. The taste was not so strong, she would even say it felt smoother. "So. You come from space zen? A distant planet?" This in itself was a redundant confirmation, but it was simply the way she progressed her conversations. "I ave never been out zere. If you can believe such a zing." Mentally she scolded herself. That was a silly thing to say. Of course, she had never been to space. She took another small sip of her drink and prepared to try again.

"I mean to say, I zink ze stars are beautiful. Perraps one day I will see zem in person." Her tail had begun to swish back and forth under the table while she spoke. She rarely noticed it moving unless she was consciously trying to control it. "Why did you choose earz? I mean of course, zat I am sure zat the universe is so exciting compared to ere."

Masami pulled back his bottle from his lips, coughing a bit and laughing at Thomasin's exclamation. "Oh no. Sorry. Not from outer space. From an alternate timeline of sorts. Magic was kind of rampant there. Hence why I'm a walking, talking sword. Basically all named magic items had intelligence and human forms."

He took another long drink from his beer, leaning forward on the table and looking Thomasin over. He cracked a small grin, snickering to himself. "Outer space..."

A small blush rose up in her cheeks, but her smile never faded. So he was not from space. Another place beyond time and space. In many ways that made more sense. He was a sword with sentient human powers. That was not a space thing at all. Not unless you counted those old barbarian space planet movies that often ran late night on the tv. She loved those movies.

"Pardon me. I was mistaken." She giggled quietly before taking another sip of her drink. She noticed now that it seemed to warm her, not that she had been cold in here, but in some strange way, it was a comfortable warmth. It reminded her of those movies with the large mountain dogs that carried those flasks of alcohol around their necks for stranded hikers.

"It seems I still ave so much to learn. But you are proving a wonderful teacher." Her voice was light and bubbly, and her posture relaxed further to mirror it. She also mirrored Masami's movements, leaning forward onto the table. For her, this was more of a task as she was so much smaller than him. She took another sip, trying to look casual like this was normal. "I was raised in a tiny village. Zey were superstitious zough, and say me as a bad omen. When I was old enough I left for Paris." She absentmindedly traced her clawed finger around the opening of her bottle while she spoke.

Masami kind of frowned at that. "Well people are idiots. They fear what they don't understand and push away good people..."

He took another shot and kind of slammed the glass down on the table. He was very nearly where he wanted to be. Now he just had to maintain it. "They fear the people who aren't gonna hurt them and dismiss the truly dangerous ones..."

"You seem like a nice enough girl anyway." His speech was just a little slurred now, and the hint of a cheesy smile was adorning his slowly reddening face.

Thomasin smiled. she enjoyed when people liked her. As Masami put it she was nice enough, and she did make an effort to be kind and well liked. "It was zere loss i zink. I mean now I am ere, and zey are stuck in ze narrow world." She shrugged taking another sip and realizing her drink was almost half gone now. The more she drank the easier it was, and she didn't have the experience to know what she was feeling and how far she was going. Nor did she understand that she was drinking way too quickly.

"After I left my village I went to Paris..." She stopped and giggled again. I zink I have already said zat." She continued to giggle a little more until a single hiccup escaped from her with a squeak and a tiny spark of flame. Her cheeks suddenly began to turn red as she delicately covered her mouth with her hands.

"Oh mon dieu, je suis désolé, je ne voulais pas faire ça. C'était si embarrassant." She spoke quickly, as her cheeks turned redder still. it hadn't even dawned on her that she was speaking in French yet. The liquor and her embarrassment had hijacked her thought process, and she was working quickly to try and talk her way out of it.

((*Oh my god, I am sorry, I didn't mean to do that. That was so embarrassing.))

Masami was slurring more heavily now, letting out little hissing snickers as if he was telling some joke.

"I couldn't cut it in the Narrow Reality. Someone would get hurt." And it wouldn't be Masami. He knew as much: humans just couldn't hurt him. At least here there were people who could put him in his place if he went too far.

He paused when she hiccupped, watching the tiny burst of flame. He marveled that it was pretty neat for her to be able to do. But then again she was a dragon. But then she started speaking another language and Masami briefly wondered how drunk he actually was. He set down his beer.

"Ssssssorry. I, uh... I didn't quite catch that. Come again?"
