First Day on the Job

Walking into the library, Jasper's jaw dropped. He had figured a magical school library was going to be impressive and yet he never could have imagined the sheer scope of it all. He was going to thoroughly enjoy his time here. Still nervous, as it was his first day, he ran his fingers through his hair and looked around. Students of all ages were reading, hanging out, and doing homework throughout the room, and he found himself wondering how many people of his own age he would meet here. He walked toward the front desk of the library to find the librarian. He had to introduce himself.

Teddy saw something interesting walk into the library as he was leaning against a pillar, reading some book on the nature of magic with half-hearted interest. It wasn't a grotesque form as he was used to - the other day, there was this strange man / thing / mix of both who just strolled in and started studying with two pairs of arms. No, the interest lay in the figure's unfamiliarity. See, Teddy knew most of the regulars around. He never seemed like it, but he did spend a lot of time studying in the library when he wasn't out hunting rare Pepes and trying to get Marina to notice him.

Then again, he did usually go through the walls instead of the door. And he was always covered in clothes that hid all of his glowing blue frame. Actually, how he managed to also phase the clothes through confused him, hence his current research.

It was always fun meeting new people in new and creative ways, but for this particular one he decided to rehash an old trick. Carefully, he made his way toward the newcomer - by which he meant that he dropped to the floor, lying prone, and sank into it. Now only his eyes and forehead were above ground, and he floated through the floor to his feet, all the while humming the Jaws theme music.

Then he was under him, still unnoticed. It was time to strike, his humming reaching a crescendo. He braced himself -

- and lunged, jumping out of the floor -

- passing through the man -

- and disappearing into the front desk, his face barely visible, peeking a bit through the wood.

Walking slowly toward the main desk, Jasper continued to scan the room for the librarian he had been told should be here somewhere. He was in fact so distracted with looking for her that he entirely didn't notice his impending doom. Or rather, the troublemaker who was trying to reenact Jaws. For just a moment he thought he heard humming, and then suddenly something incorporeal jumped out of the floor and flew straight through him! Jasper let out a surprised yelp and jumped backward, almost falling onto his ass until he caught his balance. He tried to see where the... ghost? had gone but he was at a loss. There were a lot of places something that didn't follow the laws of physics could hide, apparently.

He stood where he was for a moment, taking the time to breathe and get his heart rate back to normal while he considered what had just happened. He couldn't be a proper staff member if he let kids play pranks on him, could he? Then again, who was to say it was actually a kid. Maybe it was the librarian, or maybe it was actually a ghost. Who even knew! At a school like this it could have been anything. Maybe it was an energy blast and he was going to die from radiation poisoning now, or maybe it was someone trying to possess him? What if he was actually currently possessed! How would he know?

"Alright who did that?" He asked to everyone and no one, glancing around at people nearby who either didn't hear him or kind of glanced his way and shrugged before returning to their books.

(OOC: Sorry, net access limited over past weekend.)

Teddy was impressed. For a new recruit, this guy was pretty steady. He wasn't fazed by his antics, which was a point in this guy's favor. Not too fazed anyway - he didn't panic or anything, but to Teddy it was still a solid 7.5 in terms of reaction. There wasn't much for him to do to such a person, because it would just make things worse for both of them. The new guy would probably end up getting irritated and complaining to administration, or give up and run. Either way, not good.

Smirking, Teddy glided through the desk and into the floor, positioning himself below this man. Then he rose slowly, until he was slightly behind him but overlapping, almost as if he were a blue trail issuing from the man. Then he began to spoke from inside him.

"Not bad, I'd say. A bit of a 'meh' approach - seriously, 'Alright, who did that?' is not that great of a way to control a situation, but you stood your ground. That's some points in your favor, but welcome to Teddy's Improvaganza, where everything is made up and the points don't matter! By the way, if you know where that's from, you get a million points. They don't mean anything but you get them anyway."
