Nariko finally let out a loud yelp as the nurse pushed around and pulled at her wings. "Stop..." she asked quietly, fidgeting now and trying to get away. The only way to describe the seventeen-year-old was to think of a frightened animal.

The nurse frowned a bit in understanding. "It seems that the bone is merely dust in some areas...." she said quietly, noticing it from the blood that was oozing out. She tuned to Dani, wanting to make sure that the girl noticed it too. It has particles of bone in it, which certainly didn't help ease the pain. "How did this happen?"

"I'm clumsy," Nariko said just a little bit too fast, looking away from both the nurse and Dani.

The nurse wasn't convinced. "Well, I'll wrap your wings up and put some disinfectant on the wounds. They won't heal, I'm afraid..." The nurse began doing just that and Nariko sighed. At least they wouldn't have to be cut off...

Dani folded her hands together and put her hands in them, shutting out the world for a moment and staring at the floor. Dani nodded at the nurses words, not really listening. She was thinking about how Nariko's wings could have become so destroyed and mangled. One word popped into Dani's mind; Abuse. And very bad abuse indeed. She stood up after the nurse finished ans walked outside to wait for Nariko, still deep into thought.

Nariko's stomach twisted when Dani was silent. She knew she was probably going to get hit or something for being a waste of time — that was what always happened. Once the nurse had finished up cleaning she nodded a thank you and said an apology before shuffling out the door.

She looked at Dani, biting her faded lip. She stood a few feet away from her, just looking at the taller female. The abused teenager stood there for a moment before looking down at the floor, shifting her weight as she waited for the other one to speak.

Dani did not move an inch but instead looked at Nariko out of the side of her eye. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked quietly, knowing Nariko would most likely know what she was talking about. And if not, she would just have to be more specific. She blew a bubble with her gum and sucked it back in.

Nariko blinked. She didn't like that look in Dani's eyes, and she didn't want to loose the only friend she had really ever had. And a best friend, at that. Swallowing at her stupidity, the girl slowly looked up. "Tell you what?" she asked in a shaky voice, hoping Dani wouldn't think she was playing dumb. Her mother had hurt her a lot when she thought her daughter was playing dumb, and she didn't want that to happen again.

Dani looked straight ahead and leaned off the wall. "Nariko, would you like to spend the night at my dorm, it's a little high up, but I'm sure you would like it rather than be lonely." Dani looked over at Nariko to see her answer.

Nariko blinked. That hadn't answered her question... she didn't like it when the subject was changed. "Um... alright..." she said quietly. She was used to being on her own, but it would be nice to be around someone else. "But what didn't I tell you, Dani?" Fear was in her eyes and she waited, hoping Dani wouldn't get angry.

Dani shrugged. "What someone did to you to make your wings that bad. They couldn't have been crushed to dust from a slip or fall, but hey, I won't ask further if it makes you uncomfortable." Dani shrugged again and head in the direction of the dorm.

Nariko's eyes widened slightly when Dani figured it out. She slowly followed her as she walked toward her dorm room, hoping that she wasn't imposing. "How did you figure out that I've been abused?" she asked quietly. Anyone would have believed she was clumsy if it happened repeatedly...

"I put two and two together. I'm kinda good at mysteries, if you know what I mean." Dani chuckled. "Don't worry, I don't think of you any different, all of us have our bad memories. Some are worse than others, but if we make the right decisions, we can have a great future!" Dani laughed. "I think I read that in an advice column somewhere..."
