If they had anything like the Food Festival back in Halcyon, Jude hadn't known about it. That hadn't been his thing back then. He'd mostly kept to himself. He'd done his homework, and he'd stayed in, and he hadn't just... gone walking. Hadn't just walked through the city looking at things and experiencing the local culture.
He was trying to change.
And he was making that change with his father.
His relationship with Basilio had changed significantly since their arrival on Manta Carlos. In a lot of ways, the edges had softened, the danger past. Adraxis was still there, but there was no longer the risk of him finding out about Giltenn, and while Jude knew his father had some very strong opinions on Giltenn, they were things that existed in the past, not the present.
Not like the restaurant. That was the future Jude was dwelling on as they wound through the stalls at the Food Festival, eyeing all the options. There were the human cultures--Indian food, Russian food, and what have you--but also entirely alien cultures and things that had no equivalent anywhere on earth but on Manta Carlos.
In theory, Jude was there to sample them, but that didn't stop him from asking the question that was really on his mind.
"So, how's school going?" It felt funny to ask that, considering his dad was, you know, his dad. But school was school.
