James was walking home, dark circles under his eyes. He was tired, exhausted even, he'd gotten a few extra jobs as a distraction.

The Shadow hummed some random song in the back of his mind, it could tell that James was tired but couldn't really do anything about it.

Now, James didn't expect to meet anyone he knew, he rarely did on his way home. So in his exhausted state, he didn't realize that he actually knew the girl was was approaching ahead, it was Euna.

Euna swayed her arms as she walked, humming something her mother may have sung at some point. She had successfully burned some items near the seashore and bought ice cream from the new dessert place. It was pretty good, though she had to return to the dorms a bit late.

As she walked back to the academy grounds, she saw someone staggering home. It took her a moment to realize that it was James.

"Whoa, James, you look like a wreck!" She trotted over, standing directly in his path just in case he was too exhausted to notice her passing by. "What happened? All-nighter? Are you okay?"

He blinked quickly, nearly bumping into her, it took him a few seconds to realize who it was, "oh, hi Euna," he said holding back a yawn. "Nah, I'm ok," he said, a lie, and a very bad one at that. He was too tired to be good at lying. The Shadow grumbled at James, reminding him that he shared his body with someone else.

"Just....," his eyes partially closed a bit, his exhaustion taking hold for a brief moment before he snapped back awake. "S-sorry...," he stammered, "just got off work."

He rubbed his cheek a bit, "I'm ok....just a normal day," he reiterated his bad lie, hoping his friend wouldn't notice anything wrong. Overall, he looked tired, stressed and a little sad.

"Wow, you're a shitty liar."

Euna could have rolled her eyes, but it was too dark out and James looked too exhausted to notice if she did. She shook her head and held out a hand. "Which way is your place? I'll take you there. And you're going to *sleep*. Sheesh, what kind of jobs do you even have?! How long have you been awake?!" She looked up at James's eyes, indignant. "You really need less stress in your life! What's the matter with you?!"

James tilted his head slightly, "you worry too much," he said putting on a smile and shifting the thermos of coffee he had to his other hand, it was filled with very strong coffee.

Reaching out, he hesitated for a second before gently taking his hand, he usually didn't like touching people, but she was a friend. He pointed out a direction.

"Well, I work at a restaurant, magic shop plus my internship with the museum," he was overworking himself, trying to distract himself. "But, nah, this nothing," he said, he said, his mind dazed from exhaustion, "back home.....in Ashton city, I'd be out for hours looking for marks...things Garret wanted."

"James?" the Shadow spoke up, "you're not thinking clearly, wake up!"

James eyes widened and he shook his head trying to clear it, "sorry about that....," he coughed nervously.

"Oh pfffft, you work too much! Even I can't handle three jobs at once!" Euna tossed her hair over her shoulder and took James's hand, an expression of indignation on her face. "Why the heck did you take on three jobs at once!? How do you even live with that plus schoolwork!?"

Euna let James ramble on for a bit as she led him down the street. It was dark, and the street was only illuminated by establishments that stayed open in the evening, interspaced with streetlamps glowing yellow. Soon, the duo came to an intersection.

"It's okay, I have no idea where Ashton City is," said Euna, unconsciously shelving that bit of information for future use. "Okay speed racer, which direction?"

He yawned and hoped she'd forget everything he'd said. Normally he'd be blushing like hell, after all, he was walking hand in hand with a cute girl, he didn't have any romantic feelings for her, but that was James for you. Tonight however, he was frankly too tired.

"Nah...its ok," he said, his words slightly blured by his exhaustion, "its good....too stay busy." It was all a distraction, a distraction from his nightmares, and also from what he believed to be panic attacks. "I'll.....I'll be ok," but he wasn't so sure.

James gestured in the right direction, "sorry about this Euna," he said, hating that she got pulled into it.

Euna let out a tiny raspberry. " 'I'll be ok," sheesh, that's what they all say." She rolled her eyes, fully aware that it was dark out and that James wouldn't be able to notice. "Look, stay here, okay? Gimme a second."

Euna let go of James's hand and went over to the corner of the nearest building, where a vending machine stood. Her mind was racing as she inserted her money and pushed buttons on the machine. She wasn't quite aware of what kind of information she would unearth, but something about James's mention of his origin city and "marks" piqued her interest, and her mind didn't easily let go.

After a minute, Euna returned to James and stuffed a canned cucumber-lemonade into his hand. "Drink up before we keep going. Which flat do you live at?"
