Hwum was an individual who didn't complain unnecessarily. If she knew things could be changed and made better Hwum would try and do so, but she wasn't a dreamer. Hwum was a realist. And realistically speaking it was improbable Hwum would ever be able to see the blue sky. She couldn't see during the day, and she couldn't see colours. Hwum didn't even know what "blue" looked like.
But...Hwum couldn't help but wonder. Maybe that was why she looked at the black night sky, dotted with stars, and tried to imagine what it could look like when it was blue.
But all she ever could imagine were different shades of white and black. Sky of snow, or sky of onyx.

Hwum climbed up the stairs, her shoes off because the staircase was lit up with torches and Hwum could only see within the dark shadows along the corners. Hwum stubbed her tow few times, and let out small yelps of pain. Damn her sensitive pain receptors to the Earth's core.
But eventually Hwum reached her destination, the rooftop. She opened the door, and was a bit disappointed to see(or, well, not see) that it was lit up by lamps too. Thankfully not as strongly, and Hwum could see a corner of the roof where it was dark and she could see. Hwum headed there, and blinked her eyes as she stepped into the darkness. This was her place. In the shadow. Hwum looked behind her, but could only see white and some spots that were also enveloped in the darkness and she could see in. She sighed a bit and looked forward. Hwum couldn't even see down properly, the school yard was illuminated. So the only place Hwum could look was up.

Hwum gazed at the sky, and now a small smile rose to her face. Even if it was black and white looking at the night sky was nice. It didn't have aurora borealis like back home though. The Pillar had told Hwum the aurora borealis was actually coloured in all shades of green and pink and even blue. It sounded amazing, but all Hwum could ever see was light grey and slightly less light grey.
But it was fine this way. Hwum was fine. She just needed to...settle for this.
That's all she had to do.
Hwum took off her shoes, and ignored the dull sting of cold on her bare feet. She wanted to be able to see in both ways.

Raella's first thought when coming to Starlight Academy was that the school was Big. Very Big. It had since then become a goal of hers to explore the entire school compound bit by bit and save even the most minute details in her memory. Most would start exploring the buildings before diverging into the woods however, Raella got it just a little mixed up. Hence while the forests were made known to her, much of the building itself was left a complete mystery.

Perhaps she was drawn to silence or perhaps it was the shadows which seemed to call her name but somehow, she found herself wandering along the winding corridors in the dead of the night. Again. Gardens, forests and anything that had to do with nature would definitely make one of her favorite areas to go to but rooftops considerably less; she could fly after all, what was the point of standing atop a tower admiring the sky when you can soar in it? That being said, the moment Raella spotted a sign directing her to the rooftop, it was as though something sparked a fire of curiosity within her, propelling her to proceed on.

And so she did.

Climbing the seemingly endless flights of stairs, she eventually ended up on a rather well-lit platform on the roof. Upon scanning the area, she soon noticed the presence of someone else, hidden in a darkened corner. Slowly but casually, Raella approached the person who looked immersed in their own world as they stared upwards and with good reason; numerous stars carpeted the sky, their gentle luminescence appearing brighter under the dark cover of night.

Around a meter away from the girl, Raella began to recognize the rather familiar dark curls framing her head. Quickening her pace, she paused right next to Hwum before leaning herself against the railing as she sparred a glance at the sky. With her voice coming across smoothly and her tone languid, Raella finally broke the silence. "It's a beautiful night isn't it?" Turning her body sideways to fully face the dragon, she then continued "Didn't expect to see you here. Is there anything you hoped to find in the rooftop?"

Hwum's sense of time always disappeared when she was looking at the sky, and more often than not she stared at it until the blinding sun started climbing up on the sky and Hwum's world started slowly becoming white. But this time she wanted to avoid that, Hwum was in an unknown environment and if she got stuck on the rooftop Hwum would probably get lost until she found someone kind enough to lend her their phone so she could somehow call the chief over to help her. Well, the other person would have to type the numbers for her. Hwum couldn't see the screen, it was lit.

However, Hwum couldn't help but get immersed in the blinking of the stars, and she was distracted enough that she didn't sense anyone walking close until they were few meters away. Hwum turned her head, not exactly spooked but vary. But she relaxed, when she saw Raella. Hwum offered the girl a smile, but somehow she didn't want to break the silence. It wasn't heavy silence, it was the magical kind of silence Hwum didn't want to break herself. So she looked back up and let Raelle settle next to her.

As Raella broke the silence Hwum let out a small breath, and turned her head to observe Raella with a small calm smile she often had.
"It is. It's really different from mountain nights, but doesn't lose to them."
Hwum couldn't help but sigh a bit at Raella's question. Should she be honest? Yes, she should. Hwum never lied, not to herself or others.
"I love to look at the stars and moon, and imagine what colour they might be. Others have told me that they're just white, just how I see them, but somehow I can't believe it, you know? The Pillar has told me everything in the world has colour, so...why would they be just white?"
Hwum said with a seemingly cheery tone, but there was some sadness in there as well. After all, Hwum was feeling melancholy tonight.

It did surprise Raella how the other opened up to her so easily, however she didn't question it. After all, she had done something similar before with a complete stranger much less. Perhaps, it was something in the atmosphere which prompted the other to speak her woes but regardless, this time, it seemed that Raella could help.

Being a nature enthusiast, Raella always thought of her perfect eyesight as a norm and couldn't imagine living in a world of monochrome. Looking at the woman before her and knowing she would never experience the color which Raella took for granted sparked a sense of empathy which settled in her gut.

Even the stars had color.

"You know..."

Taking Hwum's hand into her own, she leaned in closer such that their faces were a mere inch apart. Extending her wings, she then wrapped Hwum in a tight embrace as she spoke once more, her voice coming across as a soft whisper.

"I could show you. The sea, the sky, the clouds, I could show you everything."

Releasing Hwum from her embrace, Raella then grasped hold of her senses and weaved the threads of energy together into a perfect illusion replicating the exact same area. The subtle glow of lamps, the numerous stars blanketing the darkened sky and the gentle luminescence of the crescent moon all completed with the dancing breeze of the night. Overcast shadows of the forbidden forest loomed in a distance however they were but a mere speck in the extent of vision. The rooftop gave them a bird's eye view of the school grounds below and Raella illusion's incorporate every minute detail: fern green plants glowing an almost lime shade under the white light, grey pavements with basil colored grass decorating the sidelines and even adding in an occasional flash of light dyed every color of the spectrum.

Hwum didn't really consider her words as her "opening up". The things she said weren't anything secret, Hwum had lots more private feelings and thoughts she wouldn't share with anyone, not easily. Hwum was open, but even she had a sense of privacy. But her thoughts and feelings on her condition, Hwum had gone over them too many times for them to even feel like something that shouldn't be shared.
Hwum didn't know what she had expected as an answer for her words. She wasn't surprised or embarrassed when Raella took her hand, that was a normal gesture for Hwum. But when the girl leaned close, very close, Hwum blinked and stared in Raella's eyes with confusion and surprise. And her cheeks felt hot again, and there were butterflied in Hwum's stomach as Raella embraced her. What had she said to create such a reaction?

"Show me? What are y-"
And just like that everything changed around Hwum. She blinked her eyes, she could see around her. She could see the whole roof, the courtyard, the forest, the faraway lights of the city and even the see, glowing in the moonlight. And there were colours. Colours everywhere. The lights were...Hwum couldn't eveb describe it, she only knew that plants were green, sky was blue and her own skin was brown.
"T-this is...what did...?"
Hwum stammered, and looked down on herself, her rich dark brown skin, her flannel shirt that was brightly coloured and her jeans. What colour were they? She wanted names for these shades.
Hwum had to lean on the railing, this was all so overwhelming. She could see, was this how Raella, how everyone saw the world?
Hwum, besides overjoyed, felt a short flash of bitterness and sadness. She'd never have this.

Hwum gasped a bit and looked up to the sky. The stars and moon had never looked so beautiful. The moon, it...it wasn't white. The stars weren't white. No, they were so much more than white. And the night sky wasn't just black, Hwum could see different shades in its darkness.
"This is...breathtaking..."
Hwum said quietly, and tears started falling from her eyes. She couldn't hold back anymore, and Hwum cried quietly as she looked at everything, taking it all in, not wanting to forget even the smallest of details.

Raella watched in silence, her lips curled upwards in amusement as Hwum experienced the different colors around her. Despite being just an illusion, she felt as though she had granted a blind child sight, even if it was just temporary, inevitably vanishing in a short while.

T-this is...what did...?

Letting out a light chuckle, Raella leaned back onto the railing in a relaxed posture as she gave the other girl a bit more time to take everything in.

"I have power over the illusions. It may not be the real thing, but it's the best I can offer."

It certainly was endearing, watching the other glance around as though she were placed in another dimension, however, to her, it probably felt that way. As odd as it sounded, something about her response had made Raella yearn to give her more. To show her the existing world and beyond. In that moment of bliss, perhaps it was forgivable to be just a little delusional. As Hwum begun to cry, Raella was slightly taken aback but quickly slipped back to her calm composure. Placing a light hand on Hwum's back, she eventually pulled her into a warm, comforting embrace.

"Where would you like to go?"

No facades, no masks, just them and a sea of illusions. Raella liked this, whatever "this" meant. What Hwum was seeing barely scratched the surface of the limits of her illusions yet, unexpectedly, it was enough to move her to tears. With her a calm voice and a placid tone, Raella continued: "In this moment, I could take you anywhere in the world. Distance and time are but trivial matters now."

Proving her point, Raella curled her fingers into a fist and painted a picture of half day, half night. White clouds drifted aimlessly through the air, playfully mingling and obstructing the resplendent sun rays whilst the schoolyard remained partially shrouded in shadows.

Hwum wasn't paying Raella much attention, as she looked around in awe. It was surely understandable, Hwum had never seen the world like this. Hwum did hear and listen to Raella's explanation, even if she didn't understand much about illusions.
But Raella didn't exit her mind, and when the girl pulled Hwum in another embrace Hwum hugged back, feeling incredibly grateful.
"This is amazing. Thank you, thank you so much..."
Hwum didn't even have time to get flustered as she muttered her thanks. She gasped a bit and watched as the sky turned blue and how clouds of white and grey traveled across it like leaves on a gentle stream.
So that was what blue looked like. It was...so beautiful. And the sun was blinding, it was so searingly white and yet, it wasn't quite white. What were all these colours? What were they?

For a moment, when Hwum stepped out of the embrace, all she could see was Raella. Hwum took in all the colours on the girl, her skin, her eyes, her hair. Hwum lifted her hand, took hold of Raella's and pressed them together, palms against each other, fingers spread. Their skins were such different colours, Hwum was like piece of the night, and Raella the day.
Why did that thought make her flustered? Hwum's cheek flushed a bit and she lowered her hands, laughing a bit nervously.

Even if Raella asked where Hwum wanted to go there were simply too many places. But in the end there was one place she really wanted to see in colours.
"Can you show me how the mountains look in the sun? Can you take me to the top of Mount Everest?"
The Pillar had told Hwum the mountains were a world of white and black as well, but Hwum couldn't believe it anymore. The stars and moon were so colourful, surely the mountains were too.

With foreign arms wrapped around her waist, Raella let out a barely audible gasp but melted into the embrace nonetheless. Strange how she swore she'd done this before however this time it felt different, as if a million emotions surged forth like an unpredicted storm, raking havoc yet ever soothing like the tranquility of dusk. Then, all this multiplied tenfold when the other took her hand so naturally yet so enticingly.

"I..."

Now in a state almost equally astounded as Hwum but instead of colours, it were her own sentiments, she barely noticed her illusions falter ever so slightly. No matter how much she thought, how far she searched, somehow, she couldn't put a name to what she was experiencing. Raella loved helping people; she loved the idea of using her powers to let others experience something they otherwise would not. But this time, it was her love for all that and more. Not wanting to ruin Hwum's view, Raella steadied her illusions, enhancing the colours to appear as vibrantly as she could possibly imagine. Lips curving into a faint but genuine smile, she then clasped her hand, entwining their fingers together in a gentle grasp as the faint pink on her cheeks further intensified.

"Of course."

As if she were an artisan tasked to weave the most resplendent tapestry, Raella stood before her boundless canvas and weaved. Tendrils of energy were easily manipulated to sew her art seamlessly, like fire bowing to the will of its master.

Cold, harsh, and piercing winds of the summit howled in a distance, so close yet never near enough to harm Hwum. Gone were the dull cement coated floor, replaced with crystal-like snow that reflected the gleaming sun's rays. Azure dyed the backdrop, only obstructed by few other mountains in the range and whatever lay below were shrouded in a dense blanket of fog.

Tightening the grip on Hwum's hand to a firm hold, Raella leaned in, her actions guided solely by her instincts. No longer masked by her perfected tone, she let her authentic voice escape and her vulnerability finally made visible.

"I'd love to show you anything."

Pausing, she kept her gaze on the other for a few breaths as a thin silence, save for the beating of her own heart, hung in the atmosphere. Words barely contained perched on the tip of her tongue, fighting to escape her lips should she gather the courage.

"And I want to show you everything."

Hwum did not miss the falter in Raella's illusions, how could she when she was looking at it all closely and craved to see even more. Hwum never wanted to stop seeing the blue and the green and the brown and all the other colours.
Hwum looked at Raella with concern, and squeezed her hand slightly as their hands were still intertwined, dark against light. What if all this was burdening Raella? Hwum didn't know what kind of limitations this power had, even she couldn't keep an earthquake up for longer than few minutes. What if Raella got hurt while showing all of this to Hwum? She didn't want that.
But the illusions became stable, and Hwum looked at Raella's cheeks and the faint pink that dyed them with wonder.

The view changed, and Hwum gasped yet again when she saw a view so painfully familiar and yet it was something she had never seen before. Hwum's eyes were wide as she spun around 360 degrees, pulling Raella along with her. This was amazing. The sky was even more blue against the radiant white and silver of the snow and ruthless black and grey of the mountains. But the snow and rock were not simple white and grey, no. As Hwum looked closer they both had so many different shades in them, she could see them all. Hwum sniffed, almost beginning to cry again, and looked at Raella as the girl spoke with the most genuine tone Hwum had heard from her.
She wanted to show Hwum everything.
Hwum smiled gently, there were few butterflies in her stomach. But she ignored them for now.
"Show me a place that you love, Raella."
Hwum said, there was genuine interest in her voice and eyes.

A place that you love... a place that you love. Hwum's words echoed endlessly as if Raella were trapped in an infinite tunnel and a recording was played on repeat. At that moment, she was at a loss of what to do. If Hwum had requested to see a definite place or destination, that would be feasible but a place that she loved? Raella knew she liked Starlight Academy; the people, the atmosphere and not to mention the lively and well-nourished gardens and forests. But love? She wasn't so sure. For the first time, Raella let her illusions have a will of their own, connecting them to her thoughts and imaginations and letting go of her control as she weaved the landscape subconsciously.

Finally, the last facade had been stripped away.

Azure oceans stretched toward the knife of the horizon, it's clear and pristine waters shifted and rippled in the gentle, warm seabreeze. White sand, almost as pure as snow buried their feet like a comforting blanket, while sharp cliffs towered over them in a distance. Raella was home again. Breath slightly hitching in her throat, she glanced around the beach, taking in the familiar sight. There was a point in time where she did love this place. Calm, tranquil and peaceful, it was close to perfection. Then she began to notice it. Masked by the rhythmic crashing of tides, a heavy, lonely silence hung over the barren and isolated beach. Eventually, a splitting replica of Raella's younger image manifested out of thin air yet she too was alone and sat idly by the coast. Just a small, insignificant speck in the vast vicinity. Letting out a shaky breath, Raella focused her attention on Hwum once more, her smile still present yet her voice was forlorn.

"Welcome to my home."
