Name: Dread Pirate Eloise
Nicknames: El, Lois, Captain, Jackass, Smart mouth
Age: 70
Birthday: Who knows?
Gender: AMAB Pangender. Loves any and all gendered things, and gets angry when he gets excluded because of imposed notions of gender for him. He/They pronouns.
Species: City Elf, Mage
Category: Citizen
Career: Former Assassin and Pirate Captain, Current Pawn Shop Owner and Treasure Hunter. Honestly, give him enough money and he’ll dance for you.

Appearance Description:

Eloise has a height to match his personality – six feet, ten inches tall. He laughs loud, grins wide, and never, ever apologizes for taking up space. He has a very eye-catching fashion sense. His default outfit is a black pirate captain outfit, lined at the edges with gold, gold all over in buttons and jewelry. There’s a skull with two bones behind it painted on at the back of his coat.

In more casual settings, and he’s learned to pick this up in his time at the island, he dresses up in thrift store outfits, usually in black and white, often complemented in red and gold tones. He doesn’t really understand Earth or gendered clothing, so he’s as likely to go outside in a black dress and combat boots as he is to go out in jeans and a shirt. It’s alright, because he doesn’t really care. He’s very passionate about hats and shiny jewelry.

Despite his rough personality, Eloise possesses unexpected delicate looks because of his elven heritage. He has wild, untamed, wavy black hair and a sharp, long-lashed red eye with molten gold at the center. Emphasis on just one eye, because he had one cut out during an interrogation session, though he's replaced it with a magical eyeball-sized pearl that could absorb magic. He has naturally dark skin that turned darker after he took to the seas, sun-kissed and free from large pores. He has snake-like fangs and soft lips, but there are two noticeable scars to the right as a result from getting punched in the face by a knight lover with a spiked gauntlet.

He has a few odd features here and there. His right arm up to his shoulder and his left hand are both pitch black with a hard, rough carapace as a result of shadow regeneration. His ears are long and pointy, and he will happily wiggle them to amuse cute ladies. He’s tall and rough around the edges, but it takes about five seconds for people to realize that despite his intimidating exterior, he’s actually very cuddly.

Personality Description:

Eloise is big, and there’s no other way to put it. He has a personality that screams Look at me! Pay attention to what I’m doing! I’m talking to you! After having such a minimal existence in the first half of his life, he decided to do away with that and live as large, as bold, and as greedy as he possibly can. He wants and wants and wants. He never stops wanting, and that ambition is a huge driving force in his life.

He loves people, talking to them and grabbing their attention, even the dry ones. It’s not always pleasant smiles and civil exchanges with Eloise, though. He loves entertainment, and if teasing someone makes them more fun, gets them out of their shells, then he won't even think twice doing it. Eloise knows there’s no one cheat sheet to people. He takes time to watch them, learn what they like, and then he looks for ways to fit into their life. Friend? Lover? Enemy? You never know! It’s easy to fall in love with him, and it’s even easier to want to punch him in the face. He never fails to leave some kind of impression.

Eloise is charismatic with an easy charm about him. This, coupled with his genuine interest in people, makes him a pretty capable leader, but more in ships or friend groups. He’s a slacker and a smart mouth in more organized work. He doesn’t like monotony, a thrill seeker in every way.

Despite radiating friendliness, Eloise is flighty. He can leave people in a heartbeat or stab them in the back at a moment’s notice. He’s sincere when he says he likes you and he loves you, but only in the moment he's said it. You can’t trust him to stick around, because his fondness comes and goes. Eloise hasn’t found a person he loves more than his freedom and the sea. He’ll say he’ll miss you, but he doesn’t miss people. Not really. Or, perhaps, he would if they ever leave his life, but they never will in his mind. People live on as stories in Eloise’s life. He relives and captures important memories with his riveting story telling.

If there's a way to describe Eloise's moral alignment, it's selfish. Eloise isn't necessarily good or evil, but rather, assesses situations on how much they would benefit him. While this sounds bad in the exterior, Eloise's heart is as big as his personality, so he'd put himself in harm's way to save someone he's fond of without even thinking. Eloise would do practically anything if promised money and adventure, though he doesn't find joy in cruelty in itself.

Despite being tortured and enslaved for half of his life, Eloise has no inherent duty to help people in similar situations. In fact, he's developed a pretty darwinist view about it. He doesn't like whining. Suck it up! He's been through similar situations, and he's fine. He doesn't believe coddling anyone would help them get stronger; they should find their strength on their own. Eloise can be comforting to personalities that crave freedom or those that believe in their own inner strength, but he can come off as callous to weaker, needier, and more dependent types. Living is more appealing to him than laying down and dying.

Eloise would gladly brag that he has no ghosts himself, but that would be a lie. Eloise is haunted by his past like anybody, but this is a source of strength for him, not weakness. Ever since he got out of being a slave, he makes sure that he'd never be trapped and forced to do so little ever again. Where he was stunted before, he's making up for it now, hence why he'd never apologize for any of his actions. Everything he has now is his own, even his mistakes, and he takes pride in that. Any attempt to take things from him are often viewed as hostile, and he would respond in kind. He doesn't like complicating things either. Life's too short for regrets.

He’s brilliant in some regards and utterly stupid in others. His areas of expertise lie in people, magic, cheating, and fighting. He also has a talent in picking up languages, pushed by his desire to communicate with people better. Math, sciences, and history, basically anything with big words and jargon are utterly lost on him.

Powers:

Dark Sorcerer

Eloise is a trained mage. He was taught magic when he was an assassin, and he even expanded on his training after he left. His magic has saved him time and time again in his high and fast lifestyle.

Shadow Regeneration – Eloise is able to repair major injuries and even regenerate loss limbs as long as he’s surrounded by darkness. This is complicated in the sense that it’s not really healing. He’s using darkness and turning it solid to cover up or replace the things he lost. They’ll still be functionally the same, however, even if their texture would be rougher and thicker than normal skin.

When regenerating with this method, it can be as fast or as slow as he needs to, painless, as long as he’s surrounded by darkness. Unfortunately, this comes with a few drawbacks. He can’t expose his limbs or major injuries to hard light or else it would dissipate in an instant. He’s able to regenerate them again as long as he’s in the dark, but he won’t be able to do anything if the injury is fatal and he’s exposed to light. He often covers up these limbs as a result. Dim lighting and moon light is fine.

Spellcasting – Eloise can cast a few spells. He usually can’t cast more than one spell at once. Attempting to use the three spells one after another would cause him to pass out.
  • Dispel – Dispels any magic that needs to be activated within ten feet of him. Things like curses, buffs, and elemental magic dissipate when dispelled, but shapeshifting, enhanced traits, and anything natural are left untouched. Bigger spells, like huge storms and earthquakes, can’t be fully dispelled, but he can use dispel to null the magic within an eight feet radius of him. One hour cool down.
  • Decoy – Creates one illusion of him to confuse people for as long as he can hold the spell. The decoy is destroyed when touched. One hour cool down.
  • Bad Luck – Eloise’s most powerful spell. A hex that requires ten seconds of skin contact, one he often gives in the form of a kiss. If Eloise casts this hex on someone, they’ll experience a string of string of bad luck until the stroke of midnight. This isn’t major, more in the form of minor inconveniences, like accidentally getting pooped on by pigeons, getting fresh paint on their dress, dropping their favorite mug, and things like that. Extremely useful in combat, as it would cause bigger enemies to fuck up. Eloise can only use this spell once a day.

Species Abilities:

City Elf

There are three dominant elf races in Eloise’s universe – sun elves, wood elves, and moon elves. However, with the recent emergence and importance of humans, a lot of elves have taken into living in the city with humans. It didn’t take more than a few generations for humans to fall for the radiant elves, and soon human cities became saturated with a new type of elf, ones that descended from humans and elves. They were mongrel elves, and were referred to as ‘city elves’.

Human genes completely watered down elven genes. City elves only lived twice as long as humans. They’re not as strong or as durable as humans, but they make up for it with speed and dexterity. There’s a natural grace to his movements that’s impossible to deny. Give him a knife and he’ll learn how to make it dance. In addition to that, Eloise has incredibly sensitive hearing and night vision.

Only one in ten city elves are granted with magic, and Eloise is part of that minority. This made him very valuable as a commodity for many.

Biography:

Eloise came from an alternate universe, in a planet called Atlas. He was born in the air continent, at a beach city, the beauty capital Marisol. Despite his pretty looks, Eloise was unwelcome in Marisol. Marisol had a low opinion of creatures that weren't high elves or humans. City elves were often viewed as vermin by the authorities, mostly because they lived in slums and ruined the view because of their begging and dirty clothes. The slums were always considered an eyesore for such a lovely capital, hence they were walled off from the rest of the city.

He didn’t have an unhappy childhood. His parents were not great, but they weren't bad either. He took on grunt work from shops, cheap labor for bread and a few bronze pieces. When he was done with work in the afternoon, he played with his friends near the main plaza fountain or followed the local bard around and listened to his stories. He grew up with daring stories about The Red General, The Golden Prince Tristam and his wife, The Witch-Queen Violetta. Everything was fine until, one afternoon, he was nabbed from the alleyways by a group of shady thugs that he soon found out were slavers.

Elven children were worth a lot in the slave trade. Eloise was sold for a high price for his looks and his magic to an assassin group who wanted to utilize both. He was taught magic, seduction, and fighting, all of which he loved and perfected during his time there. It was brutal, being put to torture and having his limits tested, but he never resented it. He’d never known better. What could he compare it to?

He made a fairly decent life as an assassin. He was high profile, even if some of his kills were complete bumbling accidents, and he was eventually sent to bigger, more important targets.

Somewhere around his forties, he was sent to kill the ship captain of The Devil’s Corsair. He seduced him. The Captain, enthralled, took him to his room. Everything seemed to be going well, but during love-making, Eloise wasn’t aware the ship was set to sail! It took him a while to process this and he completely forgot to kill him during the act, and when asked later on why he didn't, he would always respond with "there was a lot going on at the time." He killed him after, but with no idea on how to get back to shore, he donned the Captain’s clothes and took charge of his ship.

There was a riot at first. He was challenged by bigger thugs one after another. When the ship acknowledged that he was the best fighter on board, they submitted, and he won them over after games and a few successful raids. He was a natural at this. He loved money freedom, and he was a natural at sailing. Who knew?

Eloise never went back to shore. When the assassin group found out, they were livid, and that just… extended his stay on the ship, honestly. He was really good at evading responsibilities for a long while. Eventually, the assassins sent a frigate to retrieve him, but he and his crew fought them off and killed every one of them. They were left alone after that. Thank the gods!

After all that nonsense, the Dread Pirate Eloise and his crew at the Pirate’s Corsair steered headfirst into more nonsense, up to and including (to be updated);

+ Tax Evasion
+ Death Evasion
+ Raiding and pillaging! (A classic)
+ Being unfamiliar with cloak and dagger phrases, so when they were set to pick up and deliver cargo, found out it they were slaves (he’s never trusting men with high cheekbones and a cloak ever again)
+ Starting an affair with an errant knight, which ended poorly for Eloise’s lip
+ Accidentally pissing off a small country because he drunkenly kissed the princess at a party
+ Being mistaken for a man named Vera, and everything that followed
+ Delivering The Red General and his right hand to their destination (saving the world for once!)
+ Getting married
+ Getting that marriage annulled by sleeping with his wife’s sister
+ Ruining his ex-wife’s sister’s marriage
+ Getting cursed by a cleric because he thought an important totem was shiny and stuffed it in his coat (he said he was sorry!)
+ Getting eaten by a whale
+ A duel between a big brute of a man and him over a sandwich
+ After he won that, getting challenged to several duels because people got impressed by his skills (please give him a break)
+ Earning a reputation of being an unparalleled duelist, which he dislikes greatly, because everyone wants to kick his ass all the time

…Needless to say, Eloise found out he had a natural talent for pissing people off.

He made a lot of enemies.

A lot.

So… it just made sense that someone, maybe one enemy or several, cursed his latest trip to the fire continent. A whirlpool seemingly out of nowhere appeared and clouded his beautiful blue skies. In an attempt to save his skin, he steered straight into the eye of the storm and tried to dispel it.

The storm mixed badly with his magic. Next thing he knew, he woke up in Manta Carlos’s sandy shores surrounded by the wreckage of his own ship. He’s been here a month, and he absolutely adores it. What a cute new world to explore!

Additional Information:

  • Pansexual polyamorous. Welcomes any attempts to kiss him. Feel free. Evades serious relationships like a gun to the head, though.
  • Owns a familiar, a crow named Deacon.
  • Nobody who’s kissed him before a fight has ever won it. Eloise’s kiss is known as the Kiss of Death, a famous legend spread through the ten seas.
  • His ship is called “The Devil’s Corsair.”
