Konpeitō exited the hospital with pink eyes. His face had been thoroughly washed of all tears, but the eyes he couldn't do anything about. Not right now. Not when his emotions were too high and any slight change in his appearance could bring unintentional ones. But his eyes were the least of his problems. His body was redder than usual, with his pupils slits, his canines sharpened, and his tail trashed low in irritation. Most people around him saw him and looked away, viewing him as a patient who got bad news or something who was bad news.

He found a garden with benches further away from the crowd of the front lobby. His tail curled around him as he sat and pulled out his phone to see how he looked. Bad. Walking back home with this appearance was sure to garner some questions. He needed to calm down. Clear his head. Maybe cry a little more if he could get away with it.

As he had been at the hospital, someone had been watching Kon from a varying distance, sometimes close but nowhere within arm's reach, or from all across the hallway. It's not that Serena did not want to approach him, it was actually quite the opposite, but she had her duties to attend to and couldn't let that get in the way.

At least, not until she was on her break.

"Pink eyes, visible redness, narrowed pupils, restless tail movement...", Serena had mumbled to herself, while approaching Kon from where he could easily witness her. She didn't have her usual sunshine smile flashing, instead looking pensive, but her eyes were focused on him. "Plus I have been observing there seems to be some severe emotional imbalance... Want to talk about it, Kon?"

Serena's presence was known, but he didn't think much of it. He saw many other hospital staff around. Several had greeted him when he first came in for his sudden appointment. To see one pop up here and there going about her business was normal.

What wasn't normal was hearing her mumble stuff as she walked towards him, the words she was saying becoming clearer which each step. He looked up from the game he was playing on his phone to give her a discomforted look.

"I don't know if I want to. Sounds like everyone's taking turns pointing out whatever problem I have. Were you following me?"

"To be honest, I observed your distress earlier, but could do nothing, had too many duties to attend to.", Serena was not lying, her day had been quite busy. And if the way she sighed and massaged her shoulders were any hint, she may have overworked physically. "All I did was observe.", and resting at the bench as well, she made sure there was enough personal space for both of them but specially Kon, "Small story: One time I was at a bar and talked to a man who was "drinking to forget his troubles". Instead, he talked them to me for an hour, and before he knew he had it all sorted himself."

That was a little more reassuring. The last thing he needed was a co-worker following him around for an impromptu therapy session.

"It's hard to imagine you at a bar, buuuut I've been frequenting one often despite rarely drinking anything alcoholic. I enjoy the company." With his reply came a forced smile. Alone he could let himself look as angry, sad, or however he wanted. Right now he was with someone else. Someone he knew and saw at work once in a while, at that. There was a role he had to put on.

"Anyway, I don't think a talk's going to get me sorted out. My therapist can barely do that and I've been with him for over a year." That got a more genuine laugh out of him. One tinged with self-derisiveness but was mostly prideful.

Honestly, that drew a smile and a laugh from her. "I cave in to good beverage of age easily.", at least now her mood improved beyond the exhaustion her body felt, "Therapists go for a professional approach, sometimes they are there just for you to let it all out... But things with a friend, or just a fellow stranger who happens to share a table or a nearby seat at the bar counter, are a bit different... Complicated to just explain."

"You're right there. Therapists are like politicians if they had a good heart. They have to be careful with what they say and sometimes lie to get the result they think is best, even if it isn't in reality." He stopped hunching over his phone to pocket and lean back into the bench.

"I've found opening up to friends to be a bad idea. The people here tend to not appreciate my way of thinking, no matter how legal they are. I have a reputation to uphold anyway. It's part of why I'm here." He gestured to the garden around them. "I'm trying to calm down."

"Sometimes even ordinary people have to lie, if it means that it is to protect someone or something.", and how well Serena knew that. She could never upfront tell a human in the Narrow Reality about what she is, the secret had to follow her until Manta Carlos. Sometimes, she wished she could have told some of them what she was...

"It's that much of a dilemma, I suppose. I can understand if you are too radical, and wouldn't blame you either. After all, I'm a creation of my mother's radical thoughts at the time...", she didn't sound sad, nor angry, more like... Relieved? "Hm? ... Oh, I suppose my aura doesn't work on you then?", when she heard he needed to calm down, that is when Serena realized it.

Konpeitō wasn't completely convinced about people having to lie to protect. It was true, but when it came to therapists, he didn't see it as protecting. When it came to himself... well, in that case, he was protecting himself.

Speaking of protecting himself... "I got a charm to block that stuff. I don't... There was a while where I didn't want anyone in my head. I still don't, but I don't... mind it so much anymore. I don't like it happening without me knowing, is the best way to put it."

"I can understand, sometimes I worry about people peeking into my mind too.", and if her awkward smile and tint of embarrassment had something to tell is that Serena had some secrets better left untouched. But quickly she cast that aside and focused on the matters of calming Kon down. "If it may be of your interest, my aura causes people to be calmer, however it may set some off as it may be mistaken for a "higher presence". But that isn't the only way I can help, as a single kiss of mine can provide the same effect of a relaxing massage or a good night's of rest, or so I'm told.", she explained as to leave no secret of her calming abilities untold
