Konpeitō shook his head at Serena's explanation, his smile faltering. "Ília, I'm flattered by your interest in me, but I'm a taken man. Not to mention I'm gay." He gave her a pitying expression before bursting out into laughter, the red on him leaving. "No, but seriously, my whole appointment today was about how I shouldn't drug myself to feel better. I don't think my doctor or the people who pushed me to go to him would appreciate me using an aura to calm down."

"Oh, I know, I'm not making a move on you.", Serena gave a chirpy snicker, her bird side showing a little. When she heard Kon mention drugs, she immediately jumped to a conclusion, but thankfully not one of the jarring ones: "Drugs? As in medicine to control emotions in a specific manner? Those are finicky things, specially on people who develop resistance to specific hormones and the like. It's possible to take a more natural approach, like through teas and aromatherapy, to achieve a similar result with less consequences."

"Maybe that could work, laying off of the drugs for a while to use different means for the same or similar result."
, Serena suggested, not trying to be forceful on her suggestion.

Konpeitō laughed at Serena's reply. "You don't need to worry about me developing resistance to hormones. Messing with my hormones was one of the first shape-shifting techniques I used. No, what I meant was I've been controlling my hormones to make me happier all the time. Drinking tea and aromatherapy is a bit too expensive to use all the time... or buying drugs, for that matter."

"That... ... That is freaking incredible.", that was quite an out-of-character reaction from Serena, specially given her speech pattern, "But, honestly, you shouldn't do so all the time. All emotions are needed, even for people who should be cheerful all the time. People used to have that impression of me: "Serena, what is your secret for being so cheerful?", "Serena, I never see you frown."... They still kinda do, but in truth I have my moments when I remember the place where my pilgrimage ended, or when I'm particularly concerned about something... Or someone."

Konpeitō smiled at Serena's praise... then frowned when she continued. "I know all emotions are important, but I was made to be cheerful and I'm fulling that. I'm tired of people getting annoyed when I complain or am sad. I'm going to be happy. Honestly? I'm tired of being told what I should and shouldn't do. I'm an adult. I know what I'm doing and what I should be doing, and if I don't, I ask for help. I can cry and be angry when I'm alone at home."

"But if you ever need, I'm always here, I'll always be...", Serena has thought back on her fate, to live forever... But the more she lived with people like Kon and many other residents of the island, the less she feared living forever. "For me, you are my most unique friend in every single aspect, specially your dedication for all you do.", her warm smile was back, pure as the sunrays on a cloudless sky.

The surprise on Konpeitō's face at being called a friend was apparent. He wasn't sure if he should be happy or uncomfortable about that, so he nodded and smiled. "I... appreciate it. This place is too complicated. You do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing, and everyone has an opinion on what you should do and how you should fix yourself. I'm not so inclined on opening myself up to people when they'll only tell me who they think I should be."

"It's not just here, it's everywhere. I heard even in other planets they have this kind of struggle, mainly parents wanting their children to be what they haven't decided on their own. But I was once told, and it might be cliche, but... "Be whoever you want to be.", that's the answer.", Serena's eyes went from him to the sky, as she thought of her own future for a moment.

"But what if..." Konpeitō's colors changed. The purple on his fur and hair became a hot pink, while the hot pink already present became lighter. His hair was even growing out, albeit too slowly for him to notice. He looked at Serena, trying to catch her eyes. There was a serious look behind his own despite the smile he was wearing. "What if who I want to be is a servant to my dad? What if I want to go back to living life comfortably and ignorantly as a NEK0 servant with little to no rights as a person, who helped his dad commit crimes? Or what if I want to be completely submissive to my boyfriend? It's not that simple. I try to be who I want to be and people try to act like it's their right to be my 'parent' and decide on what I'm doing wrong."

Serena did observe his change through the corner of her eyes and thought a little on how to respond. "How about I take it this direction... My mother wanted to help people, but with arcane knowledge. A witch, in other words. And in that age, doing so was make or break, because of church presence. Yet, her passion for curing people was stronger than her doubts and fears. Even as she made her final experiment, me, she didn't fear even death.", for some reason the way she rested a hand upon her leg as if she were holding a book open, "Thing is: what she was doing was assumed to be wrong by nearly everyone in the village, yet it was her choice to continue that path she set for herself."
