Celeste squeezed his hand when he told her that it didn't matter who her family was or wasn't which she was actually quite relieved to hear.

"Actually, aside from the funeral, my niece has kept us pretty much out of it," Celeste told him truthfully. "She had actually been pushing me aside, and I was worried at the time, but now that I know why, and well, I am grateful for it, as cold as that might sound," Celeste admitted as they pulled up in front of the restaurant minutes after they left the house.

"Well, I can understand that. You want to help and support your family, but putting.your safety and the safety of your children first is important. And she's a grown woman, after all."

When the car came to a stop, Roldan popped the door open and offered a quiet thanks to Marduk, reminding him when they expected to be done so he could pick them up.

Stepping out of the car, he offered Celeste his hand with a smile. "Are you ready? Our table should be ready for us." The table was in fact ready, with a bottle of French rosé chilling beside it. Settled near one side of the dining area, their table was directly beneath one of the fragrant apple trees that the restaurant kept eternally in bloom.

"Yes," Celeste smiled, as she accepted Roldan's proffered hand, and emerged carefully from the car, her wrap draped around her arms, "Thank you, Marduk," she said just before she left the vehicle.

Letting Roldan take charge, she let him guide her to their table, which was very beautifully situated under an apple tree in full blossom. Slightly amazed at this, Celeste had to touch one of the blossoms, taking it in her hand as she took a deep breath, and noticed that the magic had not killed its sweet aroma.

"So amazing, Roldan," she said with a warm happy smile as she took a seat, "Thank you, it's perfect..." Celeste admitted to him, touched, thinking she really could not have done better if she had had to plan the date.

He had thought of everything, even the wine, which was surprisingly one she'd have chosen. "French Rosé is one of my favorites if I'm honest," she said as the waiter poured them each a glass, taking the opportunity to remove her wrap.

Roldan helped Celeste into her seat before taking his own, unbuttoning his suit coat as he sat down. "I'm glad you like it. I'd like to say this is one of my favorite places, but truthfully I don't get to come that often. I might take Iesha here for her birthday though. The menu is quite accommodating."

"Ah, that's good. I figured it wouldn't be too sweet or too dry. I'm more keen on drier reds, but I enjoy this one as well." Roldan thanked the waiter and held his glass close to his face to take in the aroma of the wine.

"How do you feel about trying the tasting menu? Give us a little surprise and cut down on the indecision of what to eat."

"I can see why it would be a favourite," Celeste said as she accepted a glass of wine from the waiter.

"Rose is best when drank alone, like now before a meal... " she smiled, "Reds are, for me, to be consumed with food, dessert even, depending on whether or not it's a richer dessert like a chocolate based fondant or truffle." she explained, stopping when she realised she was rambling a bit, and then laughing, "Sorry, I like talking about food.."

"The tasting menu sounds fine," she told him taking a sip finally of her wine and nodding, "I prefer them at times, allows you to sample what the restaurant has to offer." Then,

"Ho'´s Iesha, is she settling alright?" she asked Roldan with the implied, and you?, in her words.

"Perfect. The tasting menu it is then." Roldan took a sip from his glass and smiled. He was nervous and doing his level best to not seem it. He wanted to make a good impression even though they already had a good rapport going. But this was their first date and frankly he was scared of making an ass of himself.

"Oh Iesha is just fine," he said when Celeste brought it up. "She's really shy so it takes her some time to warm up to people. Frankly that's why I want to wait before I formally introduce the two of you. If she knows I'm comfortable around you it might make her slightly less anxious."

"That's completely understandable," Celeste said, listening attentively to Roldan talk about his daughter. "And it's good that you aren't forcing things. She has been through a lot of life changes... and well, it allows her time to get used to the idea of things, of us..." she said with a smile, meeting his gaze warmly.

"Also, if you need to ever step back, or Iesha is not okay with us, please tell me. You worry about me, but you also have someone to consider," Celeste said, suddenly aware that as nice as it had been that he was worried about her and her children, he also had somebody who needed consideration.

"You see... my kids have each other, they can rely on one another, Iesha relies only on you and well, that might be scary for her," she told Roldan gently, not wanting to stick her nose anywhere, but wanting him to know how she felt too. "And I don't want her to feel like I am stepping into someone else's shoes or trying to take you away from her."

"Oh have no doubt," Roldan said plainly. "If Iesha ever expresses discomfort with me dating, I will step back. I'd have a nice long talk with her about why she's feeling that way. But I'd definitely step back. But I am going to put her first no matter what. She's not as alone as you might think though. She's got a lot of good friends. I caught one sneaking out of a window one night: turns out she's been coming over regularly just to talk and spend time with Iesha whenever she's feeling down."

That had prompted Roldan to install some better security on the house. Not exactly to keep the spider girl out, but the notion of a child being able to break into his house made him uncomfortable. When it was just him living alone it was fine. He could handle an intruder and all of his belongings were insured so getting robbed wasn't the worst thing in the world. But with Iesha now he had to take better care to prevent things from happening in the first place.

"We're quite the pair, huh? Two single parents trying to juggle work, taking care of our kids, and now trying this thing out together." Roldan laughed a little and took another sip from his wine glass. The first course and he gave a quiet thanks to the waiter as he departed. "How is the school term going so far? Kids giving you too much trouble?"

Celeste nodded, glad to hear Iesha had friends she could count on - as a teacher that part reassured her that Iesha was adjusting well to her new living situation - and glad to know that whatever happened he step back again. She wasn't sure why, but the idea of not seeing him again, made her somewhat sad.

Taking a sip of her wine, Celeste grinned, "Yes, we are...in fact, a lot of people might call us crazy for trying, but I think it's doable," she admitted, "My kids are unbelievably supportive and helpful, sometimes, I even wonder if I have kids or not, or if they even need me," Celeste told Roldan as she thought about Azure and how self-sufficient he seemed at times.

"School is good, I can't actually complain. Most of my students take my course cause they want to, not because they have to," she explained glancing at the tasting menu.

"How about yourself? How is work going?" she inquired curiously in no rush to actually start eating, just wanting to hear a bit more about him first.

"Work has been great, actually. I mean, it's quieted down since we dealt with some issues we were having." The recent fiasco with corrupt police officers had left a bad taste in Roldan's mouth, but it had only doubled his insistence on keeping pushing forward. Roldan picked at his food and smiled across the table at Celeste.

"You're amazing for taking in three very different kids though like that. I can't imagine it's very easy, with their various temperaments and diets and such. If you ever need any help don't hesitate to call on me, yeah?"

Roldan ate a bit more, not exactly wanting to rush things along but also not wanting to let the food get cold.
