Didn't your parents tell you not to talk to strangers?

Vincenzo woke up... somewhere.

It was pretty standard these days. He would sleep, Algrogath would take over, and he would wake up like bloody hell, not at all rested, with his body aching in so many ways he couldn't even count them. Today, he woke up someplace with a lot of dirt. The dark blurry edges of his vision suggested that it was dark, so night or the afternoon. Vincenzo pushed himself sideways so he was lying on his back, bumping onto branches and rocks. It took him a bit before he realized he was deep inside the heart of the city park.

He probably didn't look good, what with dirt staining his clothes and his skin deathly pale from pain, exhaustion and hunger. He didn't feel good either. He felt his neck with the back of his hand and noticed he was getting the early signs of a fever. That was a bad sign. The entirety of this situation was terrible, but he didn't have much choice other than to put up with it. That was how it worked. In the dark edges of his mind, he resented people that had it way too easy — people with friends and emotional connections that were there when they needed them. Those people never learned how to grow, he thought. They were weak. Dependent. They cried about every little thing that happened to them, and that was why they deserved to get hurt.

It took all of Vincenzo's willpower to lean against the base of a tree trunk. He couldn't die, but god, this was the opposite of better, and he was too damn proud to contact the hospital or something. He didn't need it, anyway. He just needed to catch his breath, and push came to shove, pick up a cab around the corner. That was all.

Mochi was entering the wolves den unknowingly. She jogged down a pre-determined path. She was an avid athlete and dancer; she had to keep that figure in check! Her days were pretty normal. She contemplated her life as she continued on her evening run. Life was amazing right now. She was in college. She had awesome friends. She had a loving boyfriend. She was physically healthy. This was more than anyone could ask for. It seemed that her sweetness paid off.

Now it would be her downfall.

She noticed a figure leaning up against a tree. She slowed her pace to see who it was. She couldn't recognize the person, but he or she was in terrible shape. Dirt stains covered the person's being. What filthy clothing. Nearly white skin too! What a poor, unfortunate person. Jouka acquired a bad feeling from this setup. He didn't like this one bit, but he couldn't find a reason to object. His mouth twisted as she chose to bolt over to the sickly individual.

"Hey! Are you okay? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"

Her sweet brown eyes were filled with concern as she stood over him. She wore leggings and a tank top. A sports jacket sat around her waist. The Japanese girl extended her hand out to him.

"I'll help you!"

There was glamour around Vincenzo's neck that disguised any signs of oddity in his appearance. The monster eye was replaced with a matching bright purple eye, the monster claw into a regular arm, and the patches of black gunk pouring out of his clothes looked like normal skin instead. By all means, Vincenzo looked like your run-of-the-mill pretty boy, dressed vaguely like a casual gentleman who was unfortunately covered in dirt at the moment. He smiled at her, and it was the sort of smile that reached his eyes. Being a liar has trained him to be convincing.

In truth, he resented this. Helpers and the helped were as bad as predators and prey. It set the powerful person in a pedestal. They got their kicks off being a bigger person. She might not be hurting him, but she was establishing her dominance by being bigger than him. Let her play the angel for now, he thought. He made a mental note to get even some other day.

"It's just a fever," he said softly, in a sweet, airy tone. He reached out to grip her hand. "My powers send me to unfortunate locations when I'm asleep and I, ah, think I'm starting to get a fever. Can you help me back to my place? I think I just need proper bed rest."

His powers sent him places? What kind of powers were these? She was curious, but she was mostly concerned about his well-being. The gentleman was incredibly pale and dirty. She pulled him up as best as she could. The girl manipulated her hair to dust his suit off. There was no way of knowing what he truly looked like under the glamour. Therefore she had no way of knowing his powers either. She couldn't even make a guess.

"Sure! I'll also buy you medicine!"

Jouka just raised an eyebrow at her kindness. It was not a problem of genuine kindness or not; it was an issue on if this was the right choice. This guy was a stranger. She didn't know him; he didn't know him; he wasn't sure if anyone within her social circle knew him. He could be leading her to a dangerous trap. However, the hair was confident in his ability to protect Momo. If things went south, then he would pull her out of there.

"Powers, eh? What are you powers then?"

That was at least a start. Mochi glanced around to check where she was. She tried recalling the nearest location to buy medicine.

Vincenzo, as much as he hated to admit it, weighed almost nothing despite his imposing height. The process of getting on his feet was painful, but less so when he was finally standing straight. He gripped her shoulder for a few seconds, closed his eyes as his mind rung in loud, uncomfortable tones, and re-opened them when that was done and over with. He was suddenly reminded of how much he hated this.

"Thank you for the offer. You're an angel out of heaven. But I already have medicine in my house." Despite the pain, there was still room for emotional manipulation. He smiled meekly. "I... think I can handle reaching the medicine box at the top shelf. Maybe. I might also fall over the wooden table again, but live and learn, right?"

He started walking to the direction of the corner street where the cabs were, practically wobbling in his step. He considered the question for a moment. Well, he supposed telling the truth wouldn't hurt. Annoying women found the helplessness and humiliation of it to be sad and endearing. "When I'm asleep, an Eldritch Abomination takes over my body and does whatever he wants with it. It's... as ridiculous as it sounds. He doesn't understand exhaustion very well, so after he runs around and plays with it, I wake up injured at unknown places. I'm just glad I'm still in a relatively busy place at the city, you know?"

Wow, he appeared awful. He weighed very little. Did he even eat? Mochi felt a mixture of sympathy and worry for the stranger. She watched him wobble towards the cabs. She immediately ran in to offer her shoulder. She was not about to let him fall. Hell, she would carry him if she needed to. She could probably carry him very easily thanks to that probably unhealthy weight of his. Even if she couldn't do it with her arms, her hair would certainly be able to do the job. Jouka was still not keen on the guy, but he did answer the question so there was nothing to complain about.

"I'll go home with you! You can just rest on your bed while I get you the medicine box. I could also buy more and leave it at your house."

Maybe Momo wasn't a futakuchi-onna; maybe she was a two-mouthed angel. The second mouth tried to spot where his dread was coming from. Was this just his overprotective instinct, or was there something truly wrong with this guy? She strolled over with him to the cabs. Jouka thought about something and whispered his thoughts to the girl.

"Mochi, we don't know this guy. Are you sure about this?"

"He's sick! What else am I supposed to do, leave him here to rot?"

"Can't you just call medical services or something? You don't even know his name!"

Oh! She never introduced herself.

"My name's Mochi! What's yours?"

The hair just facepalmed. That was not the important part of his statement.

"Vincenzo Maria Fontana," he said with a hint of pride in his name. He might hate his family, but the name Fontana was famous in many wealthy and magical circles. Vincenzo was the rightful heir of a sizable mansion, hundreds of acres of land and many farms in Italy. Nobody had known about his murders other than the whispers of ungrateful servants. "Please, call me Vincenzo."

As soon as they got to the cabs, Vincenzo offered Mochi his hand like a prince leading a princess into a carriage and stepped inside. "Residential Area, Street Beta, 12-A," he told the cab driver. He pulled out his wallet from his coat and saw... that all his paper money was gone. Shit. There was also a ridiculous number of toothsie rolls in his pocket. He rubbed his face. "I don't suppose you take debit or credit, or even a stack of toothsie rolls?"

Mochi took his hand. What a gentleman! How could he have gotten into trouble like this? Sometimes the world liked to be cruel to good people. She entered the cab and was about to pay when he pulled out his wallet. Her other hand clutched her own wallet as she watched him attempt to pay. However, he had no cash. He had nothing but...tootsie rolls? Um, odd choice to put in a wallet. What was he doing with that much candy? She wanted to know, but there were other concerns to address first. She pulled out her wallet, and two strands of her hair cracked it open and grabbed the required amount of money.

"Don't worry, I got it!"

If he peeked inside, then he would see a ludicrous amount of cash. Clearly this jogging woman was very wealthy. She put the wallet away. The driver of course accepted the money and thus they were on their way. She flashed a sweet smile at Vincenzo.

"You have a lot of tootsie rolls! Do you have a sweet tooth?"

He might as well have one because of the sweetness of Momo. Jouka didn't have any commentary yet and simply observed the two. It was his job to protect the futakuchi-onna, and he would do it.

This girl was such an angel. He had to admit that much. He wanted nothing but to clip her wings with a pair of scissors and leave her in the dirt, but he could wait. There was a right time for things, and he could wait for it like a viper in the grass.

For now, he could be as pleasant as his appearance suggested. The car made its way through the city streets and into the residential area. He smiled at her sheepishly.

"Thank you, angel. You're too good to me." He held her hand gratefully. He didn't stop holding her hand. "I don't have a sweet tooth. I'm afraid it's that cursed Eldritch again. I don't know what kind of shenanigans it's been up to, but I swear it exists to torment me. You are a futakuchi-onna, yes? Does your hair want these tootsie rolls?"

His eyes were fond as he looked at her. "Tell me about yourself, Mochi. I'd like to know you a little better. It's so rare to find good people these days, and it looks like I lucked out."

The angel was letting herself fall for the viper steadily as the cab cruised along. Her brown eyes focused on his face as he spoke. She couldn't tell that the innocent-looking, injured blonde was out to rip her precious wings off. She also didn't realize that she was being fooled. Her desire to be caring and kind got in the way of her logic. Jouka still didn't feel good about this as the hair shifted a bit. When he was offered the tootsie rolls, he begrudgingly reached out to grab the stack. Consuming this would be no trouble for him. At least they were wrapped.

"Yes, thank you! Jouka's always hungry after all!"

"Yeah, yeah, I got this."

He popped the candy into his giant maw. Meanwhile the car was not too far from Vincenzo's place. She wondered where exactly did he live. She could tell it was the residential district, but she had no way of knowing what his house looked like. Was it a simple apartment or an extravagant mansion? As a wealthy girl with simple tastes, that didn't matter much to her. So she had to discuss herself, huh? She broke out into a gentle smile.

"I'm just a normal college freshman. Well, as normal as I can get anyway. I don't have a major yet, and I'm bilingual. It's probably pretty obvious that I'm Japanese."

The young lady recrossed her legs as she continued.

"My last name is Fukawa. It's recognized as the name of a large tech corporation in Japan. My family owns it. I'm taking an introductory business course along with general courses to educate myself, but I'm not sure if that's the path I'm going."

She was at least more reliable than her father, but it was hard to say what her grandparents would decide. There was always the option of picking someone else within the company. Cousins too, but she doubted that her distant cousins would be picked.
