They sat in the greenhouse, a garden surrounding them, their regalia accompanying them. "So you gonna talk to plants? Reconnect with nature?" she'd ask, lightly teasing her brother.

Bringing her hands together she'd begin practicing her own ability. From her hands there'd be sparkles and a shimmer like glass, but when she opened her palms there'd be no gems.

"What do the plants say?" she'd ask, a little annoyed she hadn't conjured the gems on her first try.

Tadashi's regalia, Amaranth, was an older woman who looked almost more plant than person, as her hair and clothes were covered in soil, sap and actual plants. Vines grew through her hair and mosses grew upon her clothing. She was quiet but seemed to be happier with the children around. As long as they didn't mess with her neatly organized rows of plants she was tending to.

Tadashi himself sat fairly close to Shiro but kept looking up to make sure Amaranth wasn't left out too much. The poor woman had been so happy having Tadashi ride around on her shoulders in cat form. Happier still, now that he could talk in cat form too. Today though he was spending time with his sister Shiro too though. Sort of meeting everyone's needs by spending time together.

He watched as she tried to make something appear from her hands but it didn't work. Well, that was why they were practicing right? "I don't know, maybe they know all kinds of secrets. Liiike... where the best sun is for napping in," he giggled. To be fair, that wasn't useless information though. Napping was important cat business.

"Seriously though I kind of only get a sort of humming right now when I do it," he said thoughtfully as he tried once more to reach out mentally to the plants around him. [uh.. hi? can you um, hear me?] He knew the words meant nothing but it felt weird trying to talk without words. In his head no less. Amaranth had told him they didn't know words, it was different but too hard to explain exactly.

"Think of the humming as all the plants around you singing. Try to focus on just one voice at a time," instructed Amaranth as she patted Tadashi on the shoulder, leaving some dirt behind on his shirt.

"Humming huh?" she'd tilt her head in thought, listening as Amaranth spoke, "learn the songs maybe." She'd look down at her hands, noticing a small amount of glass like dust, she'd almost done it.

"You're trying to damn hard," her ragalia, Tholm, said, as he sat, leaning on his cane, suiting at Shiro. "Gems are a part of nature, you gotta let them grow like...well like the damn plants your brother is whispering too," he'd snort, "sure the gems will grow fast, but this is something you can't focus to hard on," he'd give one her cat ears a flick.

Shiro stuck her tongue put at Tholm, "I know, I know," she'd turn back to her hands, again tried her hand at conjuring a gem. One seemed to partially form before again dissolving into a dust, she'd grunt in frustration, "I'll get it."

Tadashi nodded at both Amarath and Shiro. They were right of course. Trying to focus on everything at once was just going to get him overwhelmed and confused. And it turned out, based on what Tholm was saying, Shiro was doing something similar- trying to go too fast and not easing into things.

"Wait, Shiro. What if instead of going right to making the gems you tried to picture them only in your head first. That's what I do with my drawings. See what they will look like before trying to make them," he advised with a shrug. Maybe that could work? He didn't exactly know too much about growing gemstones. But being creative was something he did know how to do.

Tadashi paused his concentration on the plants to move over a little closer and put his arm around Shiro's shoulder. "I know you can do it Shiro. Just close your eyes and try to picture what you want to do. Relax, this is supposed to be fun, right?"

With that he closed his own eyes and began listening to the humming of the plants again. Amaranth quietly smiled at the advice Tadashi had given. It was something she herself might have said. Tadashi let the chorus of humming fade into the background as he tried to single out one small "voice". It was the same as the others and yet distinguishable slightly from them. He couldn't get too much further than that before he lost is concentration and cut off the communication again, looking over to see how Shiro was doing.

She'd hum a little in thought at Tadashi's advice when she felt a somewhat light whack to the opportunity of her head. "Ow," she'd turn and glare at Tholm, who given her a light bump on the head. "Listen to your brother, he's the only only one out of you three cats with any sense," the elderly regalia would say, lowering his cane back to the ground.

Shiro would grumble quietly, saying something about how Tholm didn't even need that cane. The cat girl would watch her brother a bit before taking his advice and closing her eyes, picturing the gems.

As she did this a single gem would start to form from her hand, a beautiful gem. Then Shiro opened her eyes and quietly gasped, then the gem again dissolved into nothingness. "Fuck...," she'd say quietly before getting another light whack from Tholm, who'd go on to lecture the girl on getting excited early and for her foul language.

Shiro stuck her tongue out at him, making a comment about how he needed to chill and get laid, which got her another whack.

Tadashi jerked his head over when Tholm started whacking Shiro with his cane. He glared at the regalia at first but after he didn't stop the boy stood up. "Stop. Hitting. Her." He growled, looking him straight in the eyes. Whether it was a light hit or not he was still hitting a kid with a stick, which was totally fucked up as far as Tadashi was concerned.

He was a little embarrassed when Shiro mentioned the man needed to... yeah. But that didn't change Tadashi's mind one bit. Amaranth started approaching worriedly but Tadashi stood between Shiro and Tholm. "There are better way to teach than by hurting her," he continued in a firm tone. Shiro had dealt with enough pain lately and it wasn't right. It's possible his guilt about not stopping Anya sooner was weighing on him.

By then Amaranth had reached Tadashi and put her hand on his shoulder as if to calm him down.

"It's fine Tadashi, he's not even hitting hard really," she'd finish rubbing the top of her head and stick her tongue out at Tholm, "I'll learn to make gems better than you ever have."

Tholm completely ignored Tadashi, he was focused on Shiro, "don't tell me you're gonna do it....actually bloody do it." He was a harsh teacher, that much was clear.

Turning back to her hands, she'd take breath, close her eyes, and begin again. The palm of her hand would shimmer and a single pretty gem would seem to rise out of it. This time she remained quiet, allowing the gem to become solid before she opened her eyes and grinned.

Picking up the gem she'd turn to Tholm, "see you old man, I got it already," she was proud, happy of her accomplishment.

"Good," the old regalia would say coldly, "I want you to make four more before we leave here."

"I'm sorry, but he really shouldn't be hitting at all Shiro. I'll calm down if he stops but i'm breaking the cane if he does it again," he relented as he sat back down with Shiro, staring first at Tholm and then finally bringing his attention back to Amaranth.

"Shh, it's ok now Tadashi. Let's try to get back to listening to the plants here," the older woman soothed. There had been quite enough interruptions to her careful tending to the plants. Even if the interruption had been justified. "Tell me, does this flower here need anything? Is it crying out for something?" She said as she gestured to one of the nearby flowers.

Tadashi nodded that he would focus back on his training but he watched Shiro just a bit longer to make sure she was ok. When she formed a gem he clapped his hands and gave her a quiet "good job," before focusing on the plants.

Among the "voices" he tried to pick out that of the plant Amaranth had indicated. After a moment the dull roar of humming from all around him died down to just a single tone. A quiet whisper for... water? Water! "It needs some more water!" He exclaimed finally. And beamed as he went to get the watering can to give it a little water. It was only fair, since he was the one "talking" to the flower. It was such a small thing to be excited about.

"Keep your focus to your own work boy," Tholm would tell Tadashi before turning his eyes back to Shiro.

"It's ok Tadashi," she'd not, "just y'know, let it go." She'd look back to her hands, humming a little closing her eyes as she let her thoughts drift again. She'd open them back up to look at Tadashi when he started to talk about water. She'd giggle as he got up to water the plant.

Looking back to her hands she'd take a small breath, close her eyes and start again. The palm of her hand would shimmer and twinkle, and slowly a gem would start to form. It was near invisible but would start to fill in with color as her mind formed the gem.

Finally it was finished, a small but beautiful red gem, she'd open her eyes a grin. "I made another," she'd show the gem to Tadashi, smiling.

Tadashi wanted to say something back at the rude man but there was the lingering concern that he might stop teaching Shiro and that wasn't fair to her. So he'd just shut up and let the topic drop unless he started hurting Shiro again. He didn't reply to the man but he did get back to his own work.

He finished watering the plant and was rewarded with a weird but soothing sound of what he could only describe as a plant happily sighing in his head. Not exactly that but that was how he translated it. Tadashi smiled up at Amaranth who had come over to check too and she nodded approvingly.

Then Shiro had started working on her next gem and Tadashi watched with fascination as a gem formed in her hand. He couldn't see the color really but he could see it fill in with... whatever it was. "Great Shiro! That one was faster and everything too," he cheered. It was exciting seeing her develop the ability. And more importantly, enjoying herself- as that smile showed through.

Amaranth smiled at Shiro too before grabbing Tadashi's attention with a gentle tap to his shoulder. "You need to practice more too. I'm going to have you close your eyes while I hide this mouse. You ask the plants where it is," she explained and then waited for him to comply. When he had his eyes closed she strode off to hide the living, but trained, pet mouse in one of the plant pots.

Tadashi kept his eyes closed as he tried to contact the plants, this time trying to ask a question rather than just listening to them.
