She'd grin, excited that she'd managed to form a gem so quickly, she'd hold it up go the light to look at it. The fact that she was able to make gems was so exciting and cool. The current gem wasn't perfect but it was a start, she'd set it down next to the last one.

Looking back to her brother, she'd watch as Amaranth explained the next exercise. "Remember not to eat him Tadashi," she'd tease him with a giggle, but decided to let him focus on his power practice.

Refocusing on her gem training she'd look a her hands, which would start to shimmer. She'd hum a little, one of her cat ears twitching, her mind picturing the gem she wanted to make.

The gem would rise from the palm of her hand, shimmering as it formed. Unfortunately once finished it looked slightly off, not right. Shiro would give it a poke and it'd dissolve into nothingness, the cat girl grunted in frustration.

"Now you're rushing it, not letting it form properly," Tholm told her, leaning on his cane and squinting at her, "you didn't let it finish becoming solid."

Tadashi squinted at Shiro before giggling himself. "I don't eat mice in human form. That's gross," he laughed at the weirdness of that distinction. As a cat he had no problem eating mice. As a boy? It seemed weird. And that seemed weird for seeming weird. And... he decided to get back to focusing on his practice.

He didn't see Shiro's latest attempt with the gems because he had his eyes closed in a serious focus on what he was doing. But his ears did catch the sound of Tholm lecturing her. He waited a moment to make sure he didn't hear the sound of the cane, or anything else really, striking Shiro. When it didn't come he sighed and returned to the plants.

It was like he was floating in an expanse of black, with a constant humming coming from all around. He tried to think of them as a chorus of singers and he tried just calling out to them [um, hello again? uh, is... can any of you feel.. a mouse?] He strained and strained to try to get a response that he could understand.

Whether he hadn't done it right or they were responding in a way he just didn't understand, he got no helpful response. Tadashi sat there and then opened his eyes. "It.... didn't work. Some of it got louder I think but it didn't make any sense to me." He frowned a little and pulled at the edges of his gloves. Frustrated, but not done yet. taking a break to collect himself.

He looked over to check how Shiro was doing.

She'd watch her brother for a bit, her hands forming gems that quickly fell apart into dust, failures. This earned a jab in the ribs from Tholm's cane, focusing she managed to produce another full formed gem, she'd grin at her success.

The cat shifter looked up as her brother said something went wrong with his practice. "Maybe you're trying to hard," she'd say with a hum, "you don't try to listen with your ears....well you do sometimes, but you usually you just trust then to hear what you need."

Her hands continued to work as she talked, forming some more failed gems that either disintegrated or just vanished. She'd get another jab from the cane and she'd stick her tongue out at Tholm.

"So...," she'd turn back to Tadashi, "maybe don't try so hard and just.....I don't know, trust the plants, let you're ears hear normally." Made sense to her but she honestly had no idea if any of her advice would help.

With his eyes closed and in deep concentration he didn't notice that Tholm has poked at Shiro with the cane. Probably a good thing too, because he was serious about breaking that cane if the man kept hurting his sister.

As he took a break and listened to his sister's words he shrugged. "I don't know. I need to talk to them somehow. Or... maybe not talk? Think?" Tadashi slumped a little bit where he was sitting. He was starting to get a headache from trying to focus on it all.

He growled at Tholm. "Why. Why do you think poking and prodding and hitting her is going to help?" Tadashi asked as he glared up at the man. He could have done a lot of things to hurt the man. But there was one thing more fitting than the rest. After a moment a figure made completely of clustered diamonds appeared between Shiro and Tholm, a clone of Tadashi that glared at him with diamond eyes as it stood up.

It didn't attack but just stood there in his way. He wanted gems right?

Amaranth sighed and came back over to kneel by Tadashi. "I don't think he intends to hurt her, right....?" She said as she glanced over at Tholm for confirmation.

While Tadashi's some of Tadashi's concentration was going to keeping the clone formed and ready, he heard a whisper. Or rather he sensed it, since it wasn't really like he was hearing it exactly. There was the hum of the plants again and he realized it was less a song and more a combination of touch sensations and vibrations. He'd been trying to understand them the wrong way. He still couldn't find the mouse but it was a start.

However there was still the thing with Tholm to deal with.

"T-Tadashi," she'd stand, "hey its ok," she'd say, looking over at the clone in surprise, she hadn't been expecting that. "H-How did you do that?" she'd ask before turning back to him, "easy, it's ok, I'm ok." She knew Tadashi was extra protective after all the stuff with Anya, she was gone, but she'd put her through a lot.

Tholm would snort as the diamond clone confronted him, "ameture work at best," he wasn't even a little bit intimidated. "Word of advice boy, don't use someone's element to try to intimidate them," raising his hand he'd focus just a bit as if he was going to absorb to clone, Tadashi would probably feel the tug, the sheer amount of power her had. "As for your sister, I'm not hurting her, nor do I wish to. I have my teaching methods as does your regalia, so just sit and focus in your little plants."

"Let's just calm down," Shiro would say with a sigh, "I'm ok, and I'm learning something cool, so I'll be fine." She'd out her hand on Tadashi's shoulder, "the sooner I learn this the sooner it'll end. I promise you I'm ok."

Tadashi was still looking directly at Tholm. He had been surprisingly ready to jump into half cat form, and that kind of scared Tadashi a little bit. It was good that he'd got this new ability to use instead. "One of my regalia taught me it. He thought it fit with how I use my drawings. Made it easier for me to control them," he answered Shiro as calmly as he could while still staring down Tholm.

His eyes narrowed as Tholm reached out and made his power known. Tadashi could feel as every facet of the diamonds making up the clone shifted a little. For just the briefest second a tug of war began between them over the diamonds. He was new to controlling them but he'd had plenty of experience mentally controlling constructs. Tadashi had a lot of control but... nothing near what that man had over the material itself. It was a losing battle and they both knew it.

Fortunately Tadashi wasn't actually trying to fight him or he would have just given the man more to work with. He reluctantly backed down but he wasn't happy about it. The clone though stood right where it was. And would stay for the full 10 minutes he could keep it there unless someone did something to it.

Tadashi completely ignored what Tholm said and instead focused on Shiro. "I don't want to ruin it for you Shiro," he sighed as he let himself lean against his sister a little. "I'm sorry. I just... can't watch you get hurt more." The trouble was he was pretty sure Shiro would let herself get hurt some if she was getting something out of it. And he probably wouldn't be able to stop her.

But those plants were still all around. They didn't share in all the drama. He closed his eyes and focused his attention back on their humming. He had flashes of various tiny specks that must have been bugs crawling around on some of them. Instead of trying to force it he just let whatever sensations would come to him after thinking about what a mouse looked like. Felt like. Tasted lik-... well, maybe not that part since it would make no sense to the plants.

As his head started to throb with the pain of a terrible headache, similar but weaker to that he had experienced when getting used to his own enhanced senses, he was given the sense of fur and little tiny paws digging against a stem. A tail brushing against flower petals. The mouse.

"It's over there, I see it. They feel it," he exclaimed all of a sudden. And pointed right towards the planter where the mouse had snuck over to. Not the one it had been placed in originally. Sneakly little devil.

Amaranth smiled and clapped as she went to retrieve it. Probably best the cat wasn't the one to go actually grab the mouse.

She'd sigh a bit and take her seat, watching as her brother retrieved the mouse, she'd give him a smile. "You did good," talking to plants seemed strange but cool. "Just remember not to eat him," she'd giggle and playfully stick her tongue out at him.

With the confrontation over Tholm would take his seat, refocusing on Shiro and her power training.

Shiro looked back to her eyes, focusing once again on her gem generation. The palm of her hand would shimmer and sparkle as the process began. Slowly a purple gem rose from her hand, it'd form properly, taking on its proper solid structure.

"Got it," she'd say with a grin, setting the gem with the others, she now had four in total, "see I'm getting it."

Tadashi smiled back at Shiro. Honestly if someone had told him he would be 'talking' to plants before all this regalia stuff started he would have thought they were crazy. But oh well, it was kind of a fun thought. There were plants all over the island to talk to.

"Not to worry," Amaranth laughed as she held her mouse close, "I'm going to keep our little friend here safe from your brother."

Tadashi squinted at her. "Hey, i'm not going to just go crazy and eat him. I already ate lunch anyway," he finished with a joke and poked at Shiro. Tadashi knew it was a little tense there in the greenhouse and he was sorry about that. The two of them were doing pretty well with the training though.

He moved closer to watch intently as the darkish, unknown color gem rose out of nothingness in his sister's hand. Tadashi kept absolutely silent until it was finished and then vigorously clapped his gloved hands together. "Great job, Shiro. What kind of gem did you make that time?" Unfortunately that was part of the reason Tadashi hadn't been taught to use other materials in his clones. He couldn't really tell too much of a difference between them because of the lack of color.

Amaranth smiled at both of the happy siblings and then grabbed a small fern. She placed it right by Tadashi and cleared her throat to get some attention from the boy. "Very good Tadashi but I want you to see how your communication actually helps the plants. I need you to touch this one while you try talking to it. It shouldn't matter what you say to it as long as you are kind," she explained and gestured for Tadashi to put his hand on it.

Tadashi's smile faded a bit as he looked down at his gloves. Then his nervous gaze shifted between Shiro and Amaranth. He was ignoring Tholm. He almost never removed his gloves. A habit borne from living among humans that sort of morphed into something unhealthy.

But it was just his sister and their regalia right? It couldn't be that bad. Maybe.

Tadashi slowly and hesitantly began slipping the glove off his left hand. Pausing often and generally looking like he really wanted to just run away. But eventually revealing his unnatural pitch black skin on his hand from his wrist down.

"I....I'm not sure actually," holding the gem to the light she'd look at it curiously, she was still learning all the different kinds, "it's pretty though, maybe I'll use them for something, make something out of them." She'd giggle, "or maybe I'll use them to bribe people," she'd say jokingly.

She'd look to her brother, watching as he removed his gloves, what she saw was unexpected. She'd always thought that the gloves were just an aesthetic choice, turns out she was was quite wrong. "Touching the plants does sound like a good idea," she'd say, gently taking his hand in hers, "they probably like how calm you are."

She'd set the gem into his hand, a small gift for her patient brother who'd helped her with her troubles. "Either way, I think the plants will like you little bro," she'd say with a small chuckle, she liked to tease bother her siblings with the fact that she looked older than them.

Tadashi nodded. He was sure it was pretty even if he had no idea what color it was. It was formed well and Shiro was very happy about how it had come out. Talk of bribes raised an eyebrow but by that time he had already been removing his glove so any jokes he might have made fell out of his mind.

As Shiro took his hand in hers he very noticeably flinched and moved to pull his hand away. He was clearly not used to touching pretty much anything without the gloves on. Tadashi frowned and looked conflicted for a moment before he stopped pulling and relaxed his hand. "S-sorry Shiro. It's just I don't... I don't really take these off much," he apologized sheepishly. At least she was being gentle about it.

He wasn't quite as calm at the moment but fortunately the plants didn't care about emotions. They would listen and reply regardless. Tadashi sighed and then rested his other hand on the plant, leaving the one held by Shiro in her hand and then closing his eyes.

He didn't have anything in particular to say to the plant so he just described things. What his sister looked like. How the gem currently in his hand felt. How upset he had been at Tholm. After a minute or so though he noticed something. The plant was humming differently than it had been.

"Huh...," he blinked open his eyes and looked puzzled, "It's like the plant is... happy. Or not happy... It's not asking for anything now." He didn't completely understand it but it was a good thing for the plant. And the minute or so of venting sort of helped Tadashi calm down too.
