Nikki was nervous about today. She had agreed to go to the space station with a new friend she had recently met. A demon by the name of Jacob. He, like her, was a gamer and had wanted to show her the virtual reality simulator that the station had to offer. From what she had heard, it was top of the line and would allow other people to interact with her in a digital world, much the same way she interacted with them here. Of course, up until this point, she had never been able to visit the station. Her wireless broadcasting range had left her isolated to the island. While that wasn't such a bad thing, it did leave her feeling a little trapped. Of course, to every problem, there was a solution somewhere, and this one was no exception. she was going to download herself into a simple tablet and have him take her up to the station.
It was a great idea on it's own. She was, after all, nothing more than digital data, so it made sense that she could move around via storage devices. It was this great idea that had left her feeling nervous. normally, she was able to exist in her private server, or out around the island through an advanced holo projection method. If something bad happened she was simply sent back to her server, no harm no foul. But once she was in this tablet, she would be entirely vulnerable to any number of issues. EMP would erase her, if the tablet became damaged, she could be destroyed. It was all in all, her most vulnerable state of existence. On top of everything, Jacob was still a new friend, and for all, she knew he was malicious.
Needless to say, she had resolved to give this a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained was her reasoning. To alleviate her own concerns she had made sure to prepare everything in advance for the day. She had purchased a brand new tablet and cleared all non-essential data to make sure she would have plenty of room to stretch her legs so to speak. She had also bought a backpack to put a collar and bracelet in so that when they got to the station, she would get hooked up to their server, and connect to her devices again. She even made sure to include an extra battery backup for the tablet, and an extra USB cord in case, by some odd mistake, they didn't have one on the station. Everything was ready.
A knock at her door alerted her to Jacobs arrival. It was showtime. She took a second, digitizing herself, into her new
Avatar that she had just recently downloaded. It seemed fitting to alter her appearance for a new adventure. Once her change had finished she opened the door to her room and invited Jacob in.
"Ok... Your here... Good..." She was noticeably nervous now as she walked back to her bag and picked it up.
"You're going to need this. It's got everything I'll need up there. And... I think... I'm ready if you are." She didn't wait for a response as she walked over to a large box server that hummed quietly in the corner.
"So, once I disappear from here, I should appear on the screen of that tablet. When that happens we are good to go." A moment later and she was gone. The bracelet and collar she had been wearing dropped to the floor with a clatter, and within seconds the display of the tablet had burst to life. There she was in crisp high definition, displayed against a black background.
"Alright... Let's do this."
