Name: Delara Erebus
Age: 16
Birthday: November 13
Gender: Female
Species: Vampire
Category: Supporting Character
Class: High School
Grade: Grade 11
Appearance Description:
Delara is a curvy young woman with an hourglass figure and youthful Armenian features. Her complexion is smooth and flawless, pale but retaining a hint of brown. She has chest-length, wavy, light brown hair, pale green eyes that turn red when she's hungry, and retractable fangs. At 5'2" she's average height for an Armenian woman.
Delara's face portrays her emotions well, though her natural expression is generally serious or thoughtful. She likes wearing dresses that show off her figure, even though she can't see them, and doesn't bother to cover up her arm ribbons. Other than that, she lets one of her fashion-oriented sisters pick out her clothes and make-up. Delara walks gracefully but carefully. She tends to tilt her ears towards people she's talking to instead of facing them and talks with her hands when excited.
Bright red ribbons are wrapped around her arms from halfway up her forearms to just below her shoulders, connected by a strand on each arm to the daeva's wrists. These ribbons are invisible to normal non-gifted humans. The girl doesn't cast a shadow of her own, but the daeva bonded to her will often pretend to be her shadow, connected to her feet, or it will appear to come from her back and loom over her.
The daeva is pitch black and featureless other than glowing orange holes in place of eyes and a mouth, which are not visible when closed. It is so thin that it appears to be two-dimensional, like a figure made of paper, and it's quite sharp. Usually appears in a legless semi-humanoid form, when not masquerading as a shadow, with grasping claws, two long spindly arms, and a round head, about the same height as Delara.
Personality Description:
Being unwillingly bonded since birth to the daeva that killed her mother and forced to carry on an ancient familial duty that she doesn't understand has been a heavy burden for a teenager. In spite of this, Delara would rather take advantage of her immortality to live forever, or at least longer than her bonded ancestors, and not pass on the bond. She feels resentment and bitterness both towards the duty being forced on her and the daeva itself. But it has been a constant presence in her life and the only person she isn't afraid will abandon her eventually, so she's very close to it as well. And the daeva has been around people long enough to mellow it out a bit, it's not quite the horrible evil entity it was when first bound.
Outwardly she can be a bit of a bossy brat. Stubborn, fiery, and convinced she's always on the right side of an argument. She bottles up her anger and holds grudges, reacting to stress with cranky snappishness and occasional violent temper tantrums. Delara is also honest, blunt, and bold. She will take charge of a situation because she's slow to rely on others and believes that if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. She doesn't much care about being popular, and doesn't have a large circle of friends, but she is very close to the friends she does have. Once you gain her trust, she is loyal, affectionate, and generous. She's very cuddly towards her adopted family and to friends she's made, but being touched by strangers throws her off. Inwardly she's hurt that her blood family didn't want her, and she feels like less of a woman because of her condition.
Delara is artistic, creative, and athletic, but tends to dabble and go through phases without every fully committing to one thing. She will go all in on each new obsession, whether it be an activity, a collection, or a general interest, but other than that Delara has very specific tastes and is generally reluctant to try something new. She can be very girly sometimes, in the sweet, cutesy sense and has a bright, innocent sense of humour.
As a very new vampire, she struggles with her bloodlust and is not quite used to her heightened senses.
Species Abilities:
Daeva-bond -
- Delara has been bound from birth to a daeva (a Zoroastrian devil.) It cannot lie to her or physically harm her, is bound to protect her, and must answer any question she asks it. She also cannot cause it to harm itself. The daeva and bonded feel each other's pain. Its maximum size and level of power increase proportionately to the age and control of its bonded.
- The daeva speaks out loud. Delara has a limited telepathic connection that allows her to always understand it, even if it speaks a language she doesn't know. (It's fond of Old Persian.) The daeva has picked up quite a few middle-eastern languages in its thousands of years of life and could potentially translate for her.
- Delara is always aware of the daeva's position, and if she concentrates, she can feel its body like an extension of herself. If she concentrates, and it doesn't fight her, she can control its movements for 30 minutes at a time with 30 minutes rest. If it fights her, she can only do it for 5 minutes, and still needs to rest 30 minutes. She cannot see through its eyes, at best it can warn her if it sees something.
- The daeva's edges are as sharp as diamond, but it is not physically strong - could lift 25lbs at the most. The only exception to this is Delara, who it can lift and carry as if she was weightless, if she allows it to.
- The daeva has limited shapeshifting abilities. It will always be bound to its bonded by red ribbons and attached at some point of their body. It always appears shadow-like - pitch black except the glowing holes and two-dimensional. It can grow to a length of 10 ft in any direction from Delara, but can be no more than a foot wide when fully extended. By concentrating Delara can reel it in and restrict its growth to 5 ft for up to an hour, with 30 minutes rest.
- The daeva is immune to cold/poison/disease and doesn't eat/sleep/breathe. Normal physical weapons can pass through it, but it heals quickly and doesn't exactly feel pain. It can be harmed by magic, especially healing/light/life magic. Can be harmed with holy weapons, but otherwise unaffected by Christian holy symbols. Is hurt by and could be destroyed with fire (which would also destroy its bonded) but would resurrect unbound after a month or so. Can be repelled by Zoroastrian prayers. Is weak and nearly dormant in the sunlight.Though bonded, the daeva is still a seperate entity for magic targetting purposes.
- The daeva is entranced by loud music and attracted to destruction, sweat, and noisy chatter.
- if Delara dies before passing it on, it will be unbound. If it is killed before Delara passes it on, she will die.
- If the daeva is ever unbound it will be teleported back to its original point of bonding somewhere in Armenia.
Red Ribbons -
The red ribbons which connect Delara to the daeva are a symbol of their bond. They are invisible to normal non-gifted humans and most cameras, but show up on the infrared spectrum and can be seen by animals, magical beings, and any magic-touched humans. The ribbons are intangible and cannot be harmed except by specially enchanted weapons. Breaking the ribbons would unbind the daeva. When the bonded woman gives birth to a daughter, the ribbons unbind from her, killing her, and then wrap around the arms of the daughter. This is involuntary and can only be done with their own female child. The bonding permanently removes either sight, hearing, or speech from the bonded.
Vampire -
- Catlike hearing and sense of smell. Can smell blood and strong fear. Loud noises hurt her ears, and she is disoriented by a lot of people speaking at once. Her strength and agility are above average, on par with a trained athlete and she can run about 50 miles an hour. She feels pain, but has quick healing/regeneration - could regrow a limb in days, but would need a lot of blood.
- Immortal (will not die unless killed). Stopped aging when turned. Doesn't need to eat/breathe. Immune to disease. Poison can harm but not kill.
- Requires blood on a regular basis or will weaken and starve, potentially fatally. She can get drunk/drugged off intoxicated people.
- Is physically weak and exhausted during the day. Unprotected exposure to sunlight would cause her to burst into flames - daylight potions stop the spontaneous combustion, but she has an allergic reaction to them where she feels nauseous and woozy, and her skin will still smoke and burn in direct sunlight, meaning it would still be fatal if she remained exposed. The daeva is unable to protect her from sunlight or fire. Burns heal slower than normal, and fire could be fatal. Holy objects such as crosses and holy water would burn her like fire. Garlic makes her sneeze but she's otherwise unaffected by it.
- Too young to turn someone else.
Biography:
Delara was born in Armenia into a family line going back centuries. She, like all of her female ancestors since the first bonded, was bound to the daeva at birth. This killed her mother and rendered her blind. The daeva had been passed down through the family, along with a book of history/instructions that was started sometime after the daeva's capture and added to by each successive bonded. The book hinted that the ancestors who originally caught and bound it had divine blood, but if so that blood had become diluted, and Delara was born a normal human girl. Because her mother died rather inexplicably, Delara was carefully examined by the doctors and it was discovered that she had MRKH Type I (no uterus), and was therefore barren, which usually would not be discovered until puberty.
Her father had known about the daeva but hadn't really believed that her mother would die because she'd already given birth to two healthy sons. He also hadn't understood her duty, thinking it mostly superstition. Her brothers didn't know anything at all. Frightened and bitter, beside himself with grief, he'd granted custody of the infant to her uncles. This part of her family was more inclined to belief in the daeva, but other than the book, they had no real idea how to raise her. They knew that the daeva had to be passed on and that for that to happen Delara had to have a child.
When she was five, her uncles found something in some old family papers they thought might work as a solution. Some of her more recent ancestors had made contact with a rich family of vampires and noted places they could be found. Delara's uncles renewed contact and explained her situation and duty, making a deal with the family.
They officially adopted her, taking her in and raising her as their own, not turning her until she was old enough to consent. The vampires were able to train her much better than humans would have been and the daeva protected her from any unfortunate accidents. Aside from the book, which was mostly trial and error in itself, Delara had to learn most of her control by herself. But fortunately, the daeva had grown to like humans in its centuries of captivity, so it was helpful in training her as well, not just because of its bond. Even though she was still human, Delara traveled with the clan and was homeschooled with the other young vampires. She became particularly close to her brother Leandro because of their mutual blindness.
On her 16th birthday, she was turned into a vampire. The clan came to Manta Carlos not long after that. Delara is still adjusting to her newfound abilities.
Additional Information:
Sister for Leandro Erebus
Is completely blind. She's used to relying on her hearing, although it wasn't actually enhanced before her vampirism. The daeva acts as a, somewhat unreliable, seeing eye dog for her. She has a cane so she doesn't have to rely on the daeva completely.
Has MRKH (Mayer Rokitansky Küster Hauser) Syndrome - Type I.
Delara's known languages: English, Armenian, Russian (basic), Italian (basic), Old Persian (limited)
Daeva's name is Tim. (That's what it insists on being called anyway. Actually its name is Akempan.)
