Violet got onto the roof but didn't look around. She was too absorbed in her own misery to notice anything about her surroundings. She moved to the edge of the roof and stood, looking down.
Should I jump, or no? She asked herself.
Violet wished she had the nerve to just jump, but she didn't. She was too aware of the pain it would cause her twin, and that was the last thing she wanted to do. But she just couldn't bring herself to jump off the ledge. At least not yet.
A minute later she spun away to look at the rest of the roof, and moved her foot as if to step away from the ledge, but instead she began to fall backwards, off the building.
