Right where the woods began, among the sprawling trees and open air, were several large slow moving creatures. Their legs were thick and green, resembling moss covered trees and they had trunks along with glowing bulbs attached to their bodies. They were very heavy and shook the ground as they walked.

Upon seeing the group that came to wrangle them in, one of the creatures eyed the group unenthusiastically as it chewed, having very little interest in being pulled away from its new grazing location.

Noli had decided to sign up for the wildlife conservation project for a number of reasons. She wanted to help animals, for one, and this was a new opportunity besides her volunteer work at the animal shelter to do just that.

She also wanted to prove her worth. That she was more than her sister thought she was. She could be helpful. Worth something.

A little extra money to give to her Papa was, admittedly, also a motivation.

But despite her motivations, these beasts were...a lot bigger than she expected, and she found herself intimidated.

She swallowed hard, but otherwise tried not to show her internal anxiety. She wasn't alone in this, after all.

Noli turned to the person next to her.

"So we just have to herd them, right? Without startling them..."

Amelia drifted over to the edge of the woods where the thicket began. She had heard about a group of creatures that needed to be rounded up and thought about lending a hand. The money did not mean anything to her, it wasn't as if she needed it. Her objective was just to help out and provide her services. She had always had a love for animals and this seemed like something she could do, though these weren't the sort of creatures she was used to.

Other than the occasional donation to charity, she never really gave anything to the community, which she was intending on changing now the new year had come. Get herself out there; make some friends. Sure, she had her boyfriend but Amelia missed hanging out with a group of friends.

Looking at the large animals, Amelia thought that she should probably be scared of something of that size but these seemed harmless and really, what was the worst that could happen to her? She was already dead, after all. A girl of similar age with dark green hair turned to her. "I think so. I presume scaring them will make the task a lot harder," she replied, observing the beasts, thinking that it would be best to avoid anything being trampled by them.

The creature who had been staring at the two women rose its long trunk and bellowed out a sound that had the other animals in the area moving slowly toward it as it walked further into the forest.

It would appear they had found the herd leader.

In the herd's wake were a series of crushed and bent trees giving away their position. Not that it should have taken Amelia or Noli a lot to find them, as they were slow moving large things, even if their coloration was a mixture of green and brown.

Noli was startled when the creature suddenly made its call, leading others toward it. But she would not be deterred so easily. She was here to help--to be useful.

She glanced at the others in the group to herd these beasts, then was one of the first to start approaching the creatures. Her pace was slow and cautious, carefully watching the creatures for any sort of reaction as she got closer. They seemed sluggish, but that didn't mean they couldn't potentially get startled...

Amelia drifted behind the green haired girl; she seemed to know what she was doing. An advantage of being able to float and be intangible was that Amelia made virtually no noise as she moved, which was probably best when it came to keeping giant beasts calm. The creatures seemed to be venturing deeper into the woods, following what looked to be the leader of the herd. Amelia's best bet was that if they managed to direct the leader to where they wanted, the rest would follow.

However, Amelia wasn't entirely sure where they were supposed to direct them to. Maybe there was a nearby sanctuary or paddock perhaps, though she thought best to let this other girl take charge, not wanting to mess up the plan. Drawing closer to the herd, she turned and whispered: "So, how exactly are we supposed to round them up?"

As the girls drew closer to the herd a few of the members in the back looked at them, chewing slowly and seeming content. There was no feeling of danger here, and the beasts were anything but aggressive.

Back the way Amelia and Noli had come from, there was a sanctuary set up. A large, metal cage to contain them with food and water to keep them satiated.

The herd leader, which had small tusks and intelligent, gentle eyes looked at Noli as she walked along the herd. It had stopped and returned to grazing.

Its small trunk wrapped around leaves and pulled them down into its mouth before pulling down a small-ish branch and slowly setting it on the ground before the two girls, just as a few of the other members of the herd did to the baby animals.

From back the way Noli and Amelia had come, two jeeps pulled up near them filled with young men and women, four to each. The groups jumped out of the jumps with an assortment of nets and other tools.

That was until they got a look at how big the creatures were. One of the girls looked back at the other members of her group, as she seemed to be taking charge. "We're gonna need bigger nets..."

Then, she looked at the other two women and grinned at them, waving them over. "Hey there! You guys helping with this too?"

Noli had no idea what she was doing.

Maybe she looked like she did, because she was trying so damn hard, but she had never really…dealt with animals of this size. She loved animals, she read a lot about animals, but reading about animals and standing right in front of one much, much larger than her were two very different things.

A branch was laid at her feet, along with Amelia beside her. Noli was watching their behaviors carefully, and she had noticed how others in the herd were doing the same for the smaller, younger ones among them. It seemed like a sign of trust, to her. She picked up the branch, then was about to raise her hand out toward the creature when she suddenly heard the jeeps behind them.

Other members of the group arrived with nets and assorted tools, and something about that caused a shiver down Noli’s spine.

“Y-yes, we are!” she replied. Then she swallowed, before adding:

“I don’t think those tools are the right way to go about this…”

Noli turned back to the herd leader. She held her hand out toward the creature’s trunk, carefully watching for its reaction. She thought—if this one was offering her ‘food’, then it may feel safe enough to let her touch it. If she could touch it without causing alarm, then she may be able to coax it, and then the rest, without the use of nets or anything like that.

“We just need to convince this one that the sanctuary is a more desirable grazing spot than here. If we can gently encourage this one to move, the rest will follow.”

An "Aww," escaped from Amelia's mouth as the branch was placed in front of her. It was clear that these were very gentle creatures. Amelia drifted to the side of the animal, gently stroking its side. It was clear that moving these mammoth-sized beasts was not going to be an easy feat.

Thank god there's more than two of us, Amelia thought as two jeeps full of people drove up beside them. These people seemed as though they knew what they were doing, carrying tools to aid in the capture of the beasts. Well, she thought that until they appeared to be taken aback by the creatures.

One of the women gestured to her and the green haired girl, as Amelia nodded. "Maybe lure them with branches of leaves? They seem to be quite fond of them," she added to Noli's idea. Amelia was capable of using her powers to carry a few branches at a time.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply. Stuff came up but I'm back now.
