Konpeitō did what he knew he shouldn't have. He waited. He knew the rumors were circulating, yet he didn't contact Vladimir about it immediately. No, he was too pissed off for that. He didn't want his relationship with Vladimir so early on to involve him turning literally red with anger.

As if the alternative was better. Who knows how much Vladimir knew about the rumors and how seriously he would take Kon's. The longer Kon waited, the likelier Vladimir would think the rumors were true. But he tried not to become too paranoid. There was always the possibility Vladimir didn't know (and that's why there was no message about it) or that he did know but didn't think Kon did or should care about it.

Either way, Konpeitō called Vladimir up, wanting to talk with him in private. He gave the summarized version of his concerns: weird rumors were floating about the islanders and now he was part of them. Vladimir was such a good guy. He was willing to talk as soon as they were both free, at his house.

The next day, Kon rang Vladimir's doorbell. After taking the time to recompose, he was able to discuss the situation with a clear mind.

When the doorbell rang, Vladimir answered it almost immediately. He had been waiting for Konpeito to arrive. His text had left Vladimir mildly concerned, and if he were honest, a little bit angry. Not with Kon, but with the idea that he had somehow been targetted.

Vladimir had heard, to some extent, about some of the weird happenings and rumours going around the island. Although, to him, the whisperings were really just small, sometimes exaggerated, snippets of what was going on from his patients, nothing really verifiable, and to some degree, Vladimir had thought they were just idle gossip.

In fact, he had had no idea that the young man peddling blood was about Kon. In fact, the way his patients had told the story it had seemed like it was some overzealous thrall or vampire; and not his very outgoing and friendly boyfriend.

"Come here," Vladimir half ordered as he reached out and instinctively gave Kon a quick hug when he saw him standing at the door, guessing almost immediately that he was not in the greatest of moods.

"We will sort this out, okay?" he added calmly as he let go of his boyfriend, ushering him into the living room where Kon could take a seat on one of the black leather couches.

Konpeitō openly accepted the hug. If Vladimir didn't end it, he would have kept hugging him until he was tired of the physical affection. There would be time for more later. They needed to talk, not ignore the problem with hugs and sweet words.

"Thank you, I really needed that. And I'm already working on sorting it out."

Kon entered the living room and sat on a couch. Like always, his nonchalant attitude made him seem less like a visitor and more like a resident.

"How much do you know about the rumors? Mine, specifically. I don't know if more details about mine came out while I was... calming down."

While Kon was making himself comfortable, Vladimir grabbed a cold beer and a sparkling apple cider from the fridge for Konpeito and then went to sit on the couch next to him.

"Truthfully," Vladmir said as he handed Kon a drink. "I haven't heard too much about what happened. I mean I do hear my patients talking, mostly just gossiping about the going ons. But, it wasn't til you texted me that I realised that the "Connor" guy some patient was babbling about the other day was actually about you," he confessed with a slight frown, feeling a bit bad that he hadn't paid more attention to the rumors floating around. Vladimir had, in fact, just waved them off as idle gossip and now he was beginning to realise that whatever was happening was more serious than it appeared.

The "Connor" guy. Konpeitō let out a laugh. That was one way to improve his mood. Connor was an alias he would need to use sometime. Likely for a joke.

Kon sipped his cider while giving Vladimir is pitying expression. After setting it down, he let out a light sigh with a small smile. "Don't be so hard on yourself. I didn't pay much attention to them at first either. It was only until a friend of a friend was framed for an assault that I was completely interested. Alma Malivani, if you know her... I think a lot of people aren't sure whether to take the rumors seriously or not. It's only until they or someone they're close to gets involved that they pay attention."

It was a sad reality. Kon was both thankful he was one of the later rumors and that so many came out that it was hard for people to not find things suspicious. Who knows how much of a hit his and TWIS' reputations would have taken if not for their luck.

Vlad lightly patted Kon's knee after he had tried to reassure him. "Thanks. Though I still feel bad that I dismissed the rumours as being just that ... idle rumours," he explained, now trying to remember who else might have been affected.

"You mentioned your friend, this Alma Malivani..." Vlad said as he held his beer bottle between both hands. "What happened to her exactly?" he asked, not quite sure he really knew what had gone down with her. His patients, while being great sources of gossip, weren't always the most reliable when it came to correctly remembering detailed information like the names of who had been affected or how something really happened, especially if the story had been embellished in some way.

Konpeitō would have pointed out that if everyone took every rumor seriously, the community would be much worse off, but he figured Vladimir would get there on his own. When proven wrong, most people let emotions get to them before logic arrived.

"I wouldn't call her a friend, but we're on close enough terms, and I'm friendly with her boyfriend. Alma's an outspoken social activist. From what I've researched about her, she started up the aura warning bracelets before the government, so she's pretty prominent in the community, despite being so young." In a way, that made her a role model for Kon. Alma showed how little age mattered with reputation, and her boyfriend showed how quickly you could build yourself up in the community despite being relatively new to it.

"So when I heard that, during a protest, she attacked a Citizens Against Evil protester, I was like, 'Hold on there, that doesn't sound like her at all." But then it gets weirder. There was a video of her doing it. After getting taken in, she vanished from the police station too? The story's all over the place, but I saw her a bit ago, so I'm pretty sure that's true. With the video evidence, if they truly thought it was her, I doubt she would be released."

"That does sound strange. Even if she is - or was - an activist, I can't see her openly attacking anyone. That might jeopardize her cause or put in question all she has done," Vladimir surmised, very much in agreement that things were not adding up, and something odd was happening on the island.

"And how about you? How are you holding up?" Vlad asked Kon gently, concerned at how this might be affecting him, but knowing that at times it was best to approach topics patiently and in a roundabout way.

Konpeitō thought about it from that perspective, but Alma simply wasn't that kind of person. She wasn't stupid, aggressive, or impulsive enough to do anything like that. She was well-behaved, friendly, and stayed on top with her feeding. The idea of her losing control of herself was too weird.

When asked about how he was holding up, he laughed softly. "I let out all my anger when I first heard about the news. I'm still very frustrated, but I'm doing better. It's something I know I can overcome. Making a name for yourself always comes with some people trying to knock you down, isn't that right?" He spoke optimistically and enthusiastically, both trying to hype himself and Vladimir up into a better mood.

"I've been doing my own investigating about all of this as well. I'm working with others who are looking into things as well. If the police don't figure things out, I'm sure one of us will!"

"I think that's the best way to handle it," Vladimir stated in full agreement as he listened quietly to Kon talk about how he was dealing with everything.

"Besides, people will quickly move on to something else once the next rumour comes out." Vladimir said, pretty sure these strange rumours and island happening were going to continue for a while longer. He couldn't say why he thought that, and if asked, all Vlad could really say is that he had a very odd feeling that someone had some sort of agenda.

Hearing that Kon was investigating, made Vlad frown. "Whatever you do, just be careful, okay? You have no idea what you are dealing with, and it seems like this person knows and studies who it's targetting," he pointed out.

"For all you know, it could be somebody close to you, or that can blend unnoticed into a crowd. A shapeshifter, maybe, or even a ghost," he explained. Vlad didn't want to stop Kon from what he was doing, however, he didn't want him getting hurt either.
