Konpeitō nodded, figuring the same thing. Another rumor would come out and it would further prove that Kon was just one of several victims of these weird doppelganger instances.

"I've heard the shape-shifter idea come up a few times. It's funny that my shape-shifting would fit well with that." He could once change species, he can give himself new abilities, and his body-shifting goes down to a genetic level. It was possible for him to mimic another person almost flawlessly. It was certain that others might suspect him because of how far his powers can go.

"I haven't heard anyone suspect me yet, thankfully. I've collected several hypotheses of what may be going on, but nothing's for certain. Yours is one I certainly need to keep in mind."

Konpeitō closed his eyes and let out a short sigh, then slowly opened them. "Anyway, I'm happy to have someone like you to worry about me. I treated this like a game of detective at first, but now that my friends and I are involved in something potentially dangerous, I have to take this much more seriously." Most dangerous to his reputation or others was up in the air. Alma and the bug person who was sprayed certainly were harmed. Konpeitō was lucky he wasn't accused of actually trying to eat people. Yet. Who knew if more information came out that involved worse crimes.

"Of course, I worry about you," Vladimir said. "I care about you, and I'm extremely concerned that this string of unexplained occurrences might escalate or someone associated or looking into it might get hurt, or something worse..." he said avoiding the "d" word, but shot Kon a concerned glance that was also somewhat guarded.

"And please do kept that in mind, whomever you guys are dealing with might not be working alone, and they might be keeping an eye on all the people he or she has hurt," he said solemnly, knowing from his own personal experience as an ex-monster hunter that people like that often stalked, kept tabs on, and later watched and kept track of their victims to see what they'd do... often for fun or personal amusement.

Something worse... Konpeitō knew it would be pure arrogance to claim he was fine because he was immortal. Who knows what could counter his powers. Someone could turn off immortality or block his pain control, making him prey to whatever they have planned.

"You're completely right. I think I'll try to be less focused on this and cut down on my investigating time."

It was painful to acknowledge that he may not be completely cut out for what was ahead of him. In the Narrow Reality, his dad was involved with all sorts of cool stuff as an information broker, but he wasn't facing the supernatural. Kon buffing himself up didn't change that he may be going up against a god or eldritch.

Leaning closer in, Konpeitō wore a soft expression. "How about we plan a nice day out together? A day where neither of us thinks about what's going on. Then, if anything happens afterward, we'll have a fresh mind to tackle it together."

"Thank you," Vladimir said in a heartfelt tone as he reached out and lightly caressed Kon's cheek with the back of his hand, meeting his warm gaze with one of his own.

"And that's a great idea... I'd be up to do something together. Heaven knows the seasons are starting to turn, and we might not be able to enjoy many more warm days for a while," he said agreeably.

"What did you have in mind?" Vlad asked as he continued to gently caress Kon's cheek, neck and jawline. The gesture was not at all sexual, just very affectionate...it was one of a lover comforting and enjoying the presence of the other.

Kon couldn't help but lean in slightly further as he was caressed. It only felt fair to do the same to Vladimir, but he was a little too distracted. How long had it been since he was touched with genuine affection? It had to before the island. After that, it was brothels that manufactured the illusion of an authentic connection.

So it took Konpeitō a few seconds to realize that he was purring. His body stiffened for a moment before letting out an embarrassed laugh. He forced back his apology, hoping to pass it off as a charming trait. It was pretty charming to Kon, at least.

"Ah... A movie would be simplistic. It would give us something to talk about for a while too. We can go to the amusement park at the Pier too... Oh! We in the future, why don't we visit the Starlight Observation Station and do one of those virtual reality things. It would be expensive, but we could make a world of our own. I don't mind paying for most of it." Paying more than he had to was out-of-character for him, but Kon liked the idea of exploring a new world with Vladimir. It was something he never had the chance to experience before.

When Kon started purring, Vladimir tried to hide his amused grin, and just smiled when Kon realised what was happening and started apologising. "It's fine, cute even," he admitted with a chuckle. Vlad actually enjoyed his boyfriend's little quirk, it somehow made him more endearing.

"All of that sounds great," Vladimir said. "But how would you feel if we went down to the mall and picked up a few videos games, and maybe a pizza for dinner?" he suggested. "There are a few games I wouldn't mind trying out, and we could get an extra controller so you and I can play together," he explained as he took a sip of his now slightly warmer beer.

Konpeitō resisted looking downward sheepishly at having his purring called cute. By all means, he should have been more than confident about this compliment. Kon had no problem with being called cute. It was only that being called cute by his boyfriend held more significance than by a stranger.

Kon's ears perked up when Vladimir mentioned playing games. There was a sense of rebelliousness there. Kon may have no more emotional connection to his father, yet he still had trouble catching up on everything he was forced to miss out on.

"Yes, that sounds perfect. I haven't played a lot of games, admittedly. Most of the ones I played are mystery, thriller, and horror, and they're from Japan. I hope you won't mind having to familiarize me with some games."

"Great," Vladimir grinned when Kon agreed to his suggestion. He was very much into gaming - which surprised a lot of people. It gave him an outlet after work and on the weekends where he could just relax and do something that enjoyable that kept his mind off his problems.

"No worries...a lot of the popular games are Japanese anyways," he said reassuringly. "And if you want we can also get a few games that are just silly fun like Rocket Car Soccer League or one of the SoulCaliburs?" he suggested as he got up from the sofa, grabbed his beer and Kon's and put both bottles in the recycling in the kitchen.

Kon got halfway up from his seat when Vladimir got up, then sat back down. He was no longer a servant to his boyfriend. The instinctual feeling of needing to take on the responsibility of cleaning was unnecessary now. If Vladimir wanted Konpeitō to clean up, he would ask. Kon planned on cleaning up his part before leaving anyhow.

Leaning back into his chair and watching Vladimir, Kon thought about the games suggested. SoulCalibur rang a bell. Rocket Car Soccer League didn't. "Is Rocket Car Soccer League about cars with rockets that play soccer? If so, it sounds so amazingly stupid I have to play it. Oo, how about you pick one game I haven't played and I pick one game you haven't played?"

Vladimir let out a little laugh and bent forward to lightly kiss Kon on the lips. "No, kitten, it's about crazy cars that knock a huge ball around into big soccer like goal posts," he explained as he put out his hand and pulled Kon to his feet.

"Now I am definitely choosing that one as my game that you haven't played," he said as he grabbed his wallet and car keys so they could go out to the mall together.
