Euna had been trying for at least one year, to properly conjure fire.

The book made it sound so simple. First, compress your mana, as with any magical undertaking. Then, will it into flame. The third step involved releasing the mana at speed, so that the fire didn’t scorch the mage from the inside out. Okay, maybe it wasn’t that simple, but it was simple enough. In theory.

Euna stood at an area not frequented by many people, except for herself, a book open at her feet. The sea lapped at her left, and dense trees and foliage swayed slightly in the late afternoon breeze. She had used a rock to weigh the page of her book down, so that the pages weren’t fluttered by the wind.

She took a deep breath and let the mana flow. That was the easy bit. Unfortunately, Euna didn’t have the discipline or the maturity required to will mana into fire. She let it out a bit too early. A bolt of mana shot out from her fingers, ricocheted into the ground, leaving a dark, powdery scorch mark, and headed for the trees. Already, she could spot the figure of someone there, right in the path of her accidental projectile.

“Sk—look out!” she yelled to whoever was there.

Today was amazing. Shinji had already found that it was a beautiful day and now he found that he had met enough people on the island to say he isn't new anymore. It was rather frustrating for a while knowing that he was still considered knew because he had went no where but the school grounds for a while, but now he was new no more. But there is more and more things to do on this island every day, not to mention there are so many people here to meet. Even though Shinji met a decent number of people, he hasn't even touched the surface of what he could find on the island both in unique powers of others and in the fascinating things that lie hidden to the eye all over the place.

Shinji decided to go to the shore where he could see everything over the horizon. It was late afternoon where the soon was closest to its peak in the sky and it was indeed both beautiful and blinding, regardless of the dim tint of his eyes. The light breeze that passed him made the leaves around him twirl. It was better for him to stay closer to the trees rather than just way out closer to the water for obvious reasons. It wasn't like he didn't want to but more as a cautious act of safety. There weren't very many people here either so if something where to happen to him with this water, that might be pretty tragic. Sad but true.

He stood near a tree where he could only partially see the sun but was unsatisfied with the view he had. It just wasn't enough to keep him in the relaxing mood that he would have preferred right now. So as an attempt to help himself, he moved more outward into the sun and basked in the rays that made his skin warm but fought the cool breeze. It wasn't long before something weird happened. Something that Shinji definitely wasn't ready for. A voice? "Look Out" was all that was heard over the sounds of the oceans waves coming onto shore. Before Shinji could fully turn his head, a bright bolt of who knows what knocks him off of his feet.

Lying on the ground, Shinji felt like he was hit by a bus. His head was fuzzy for a second and his body felt limp. However, it only took about a moment or two for him to catch back up to his senses. he tried to sit up but unfortunately a sharp beating pain in his right shoulder stopped him from lifting himself up. The fabric on his shirt was singed making a hole. His shoulder had char all over it and hurt like never before. What just happened?

“Oh my god!” Euna nearly tripped over her own feet running at whoever she had hit. The books on the ground were covered in sand that she had kicked up in a hurry. “Oh crap, I’m so sorry! That wasn’t supposed to happen, I swear! Are you okay!? Don’t move!”

Without even checking who it was, she started checking his pulse and heartbeat, talking all the while. “Oh thank god, you’re still alive! I shouldn’t have lost control, what if that thing was powerful enough to kill someone? Oh god oh god oh god.” Her gaze fell onto the stranger’s burnt shoulder. An incomplete transformation, then. At least she made some progress. Euna started rolling up her sleeves.

Abruptly, she stopped, remembering that she had never healed anything more serious than a papercut. “Dear Jesus Christ on a Catherine Wheel, I don’t know how to heal this. I’m so sorry. Gah.” Euna grabbed the end of her cream fleece scarf, burying her face in it. Coupled with the many, many times she had punched someone in the corridors for bullying a kid, there seemed to be no other outcome. “Oh god, theyre going to send me to juvie island. Please tell my friends I love them.”
