Cordelia didn't mind at all when Loriana clung to her. She allowed the girl to, and shook her head at the girls thoughts. "No, I would never," she said. The woman had made Loriana a promise, after all, and wouldn't go back on it. Never in a million years would Cordelia leave the girl, since she was so dependant on her. She wondered if that dependence would eventually lessen over time, but for the moment, didn't mention anything about it.

She didn't mind the tears that were wetting her shoulder at all. Tears shouldn't be locked up inside, and it was the best way to relieve emotions.

"Like her…"

Had she known about all the pain in Loriana's past, this question probably wouldn't have come out of the vampire's mouth. "Like who?" she asked. Maybe it was stupid to ask and make Loriana think about it, but the twenty-year-old was nosy. She couldn't help but be curious; it was part of her personality. She had to ask.

"I can't…"

Cordelia sat back down on the ground. She looked at Loriana, not really minding that she was clinging to her hand. The woman pulled her hand away gently, though, and picked the girl up, being careful of her back. She placed Loriana on the bed again, the action almost effortless. She sat down next to the girl, though, giving her a nice hug. "It's ok sweetie. Don't cry, I promise I won't do that again. And I'll never abandon you, Loriana."

Shuddering at the thoughts this simple question brought, it seemed as if she was completely cold, but her skin as as hot as the fire of her fever. Loriana leaned against Cordelia, what little strength had made her stay upright gone for good. The red haired girl sobbed softly, memories she had buried deep down coming back up to torture her weakened mind.

"She left me... she died. Mom wasn't on good terms with her own mother, but at least gran didn't hate me..." She murmured a bit incoherently.

Truly this was a matter she did not like to talk about much.

"Just as I thought she was starting to like me, she died..." Loriana muttered.

She was't talking about her mother, but about her grand-mother. It was anyone's guess how her mother could have turned so bad. There were a couple answers that could come up, drugs, a malvolent boyfriend... None that she knew though. Alicia Gordon had been the greatest grand-mother one could have.

Loriana closed her eyes and her tears continued to flow. It was a good thing she had been plugged or she would have dehydrated by now. She didn't even felt when she was picked up yet again. it was becoming an habit of Cordelia it seem. She nearly over balanced to the floor again when she was put on the bed.

Upon feeling how hot Loriana's skin was, Cordelia was unsure if she should get a nurse or not. The fever might be getting worse... and she didn't want anything that would leave a lasting effect on Loriana to happen. It would probably take a long time for the girl to be completely better, seeing as how she had gone so long without any medical treatment. Not to mention she had been deprived of love... that was even worse. Physical damage eventually healed, but emotional damage stayed for a very long time.

"She left me... she died. Mom wasn't on good terms with her own mother, but at least gran didn't hate me..."

A look of compassion came to the woman's face. It was really an odd thing to see, since, after all, Cordelia wasn't usually this kind. The poor child! She had really gone through so much... so much that no one deserved to go through. She felt bad for bringing up that memory... she hadn't meant to make the winged one remember such painful thoughts.

"Just as I thought she was starting to like me, she died..."

"I'm sure she hadn't meant to," the widow said softly in an attempt to comfort her. "I'm sure that she liked you, that she loved you. She wouldn't have died on purpose." It was mostly true. People couldn't really just say 'hey, I'm gonna die today!' and lay down, close their eyes, and pass on.

She didn't understand why her mother had been so cruel to Loriana, though... she would never understand how a mother could be cruel to their own child, even if she knew that it happened sometimes.

Loriana was such a nice person... who could have detested her that much? Even if she was slightly clingy at the moment, who wouldn't be in that position? Even Cordelia herself would have been clingy in that situation... then again, she didn't really have anyone to cling to.

As her tears continued on, Cordelia offered a small smile to try and comfort her. "It's alright," she said again. Maybe her grandmother was gone, maybe her mother hated her — but Cordelia didn't plan on leaving Loriana alone until she was stable enough to actually be on her own.

Loriana finally fell asleep against the older woman, going limp on the bed. She was completely exhausted. The red haired young woman had had time to hear what the other had said though and a small smile drew itself on her face.

As Loriana fell asleep, Cordelia just looked down at her. Loriana had become like a daughter to her today. It was surprising how much she could care when she actually allowed herself to. The woman didn't even want to think of what would have happened to Loriana had she not been outside, had she been heartless and not helped her.

She was definitely changing. Or, at least, learning that not everyone in the world was a jerk.

~

A few days had passed since that meeting, and Cordelia hadn't left the room unless it was a complete and utter emergency. She didn't want another breakdown to occur. There was no way she was going to leave until she was sure Loriana was stable — both physically and emotionally. Besides, she didn't have much of a life anyway. There was nothing she had really missed, she was sure.

The twenty-year-old stretched her shoulders and looked to the avian. "You feeling any better today?" she asked with a small smile.

Loriana smiled back from her seat on the bed. One wing was extended in front of her and she had been trying to take care of a itch that had settled under the bandages of her wing. She was armed with one of the plastic sporks she had been given for eating her breakfast, which was lying on the table, untouched, for now. The itch was more important.

"Yes, but I will feel even better when I get this itch taken care of." She replied.

Her tongue sticking out in a comical manner as she concentrated at getting it just right, the spork was furiously used to scratch the part of her wing that itched.

"Thats it... I'm going to get that thing off!!" She yelled and proceeded to try and do just that.

Cordelia lifted an eyebrow in slight amusement upon seeing the spork in Loriana's hand. Spork... haha. It was a funny word. She giggled inside, then shook her head. She had to stop being amused by such simple things.

She laughed briefly as the younger female stuck her tongue out. Once again, she had been amused. The twenty-year-old rolled her eyes at herself. I'm pathetic, she thought to herself.

"Thats it... I'm going to get that thing off!!"

The woman blinked her eyes, then sighed. "Loriannaaaa," she said in a sing-song voice, obviously ready to correct the girl. "I doubt your wing is healed fter only these few days. You're going to keep that cast on until it's healed." The last sentence had been commanding, though gentle, and her eyes had narrowed just a little bit to show she was serious.

"You'll only hurt it more if you take the cast off. Do you want to be stuck in this place for longer?" she asked, certain she knew the answer of that. "If you want, I'll scratch it for you, or I could get a nurse."

She doubted she would want a nurse, but she still suggested it anyway.

Loriana was unaware of the dillemna going through the other woman's head. The red haired girl was looking at the spork into her hand with scorn and a lot of annoyance. It refused to be manipulated easily. And now it itched even more. She mock growled at the hybrid of a fork and a spoon in her hand.

"But it itches...!" She replied in an equally annoying sing song voice.

It was not the first time in the few days that she had been in the company of the older woman that she had been rebuked, like that time when she had been feverish and had decided the bed was a good place to launch from to fly. That would stay in her memories for a long time. She hadn't thought Cordelia was that strong either. She had snatched the avian out of the air as she was attempting to fly.

"No I don't!" She exclaimed rather loudly.

She extended her hand and presented the spork to the so motherly vampire.

"Try it, its not as easy as it seems. And don't call the nurse, she'll just pat me on the head and tell me everything will be fine." She said with an hint of sarcasm in her voice.
