122479246_717796652278875_9116302805247580770_n.pngIt was rather warm for the time of year, and that had drawn all manner of people outdoors. For this reason, Tasha decided to take her daily run through the city. After all, who knows what she might see.
Footsteps hit the ground at a steady rhythm as powerful and toned legs drove her forward. She was used to the looks and the catcalls by this point, but they no less annoyed her. Ignoring them as she went, it wasn't long before she came across a gorgeous late blooming flower display.
Taking the moment to rest, Tasha looked over the flowers with a smile on her face. Blues, red, pinks, yellows, and every other color in the rainbow mixed together in a scene that almost seemed out of place in the middle of the city, but Tasha was thankful for it.
Then it hit her. A scent. Somewhere. She sniffed the air desperately trying to locate it's origin. Another Olcan. No no no. It couldn't be. She had left all of them behind. Tasha didn't even know what had happened to them. But there was no mistaking her own bloodlines scent.
Brown eyes darted around from person to person. So many people. With the werewolf not knowing who she was looking for, it could have been anyone.

It had been a perfectly pleasant day for Malina to go visit the city. It was past time that she did, too. There were a few errands that she had been putting off, and the warmth made the ride into town a lot more bearable.

Malina took her time walking from the parking lot to the store, enjoying the scents of the city. She smelled the perfumes people were wearing, the grass, the trees, and all the subtle scents of the people walking around her. She smelled flowers - and what a delightful little flower display! They reminded her that she needed a few gardening supplies.

An unwelcome scent intruded upon her reverie. Another werewolf. But not just another werewolf - one that shared her blood, and an alpha besides.

She sniffed at the air, and soon noticed another woman doing the same. She didn't recognize her, but she recognized the hair and the jawline, and that nose. This was almost certainly one of her cousins. She stared for a moment, mind flooding with questions. Who was this? Why was she here? Did it have anything to do with her?

Whatever the case, Malina wanted nothing to do with it. Not today. She pointed her gaze straight ahead and walked past, pretending not to notice this mysterious werewolf. Hopefully the woman wouldn't notice her or say anything.

The flood of scents barraging her made it difficult to pinpoint where the all too familiar scent was coming from. It was driving her insane as she desperately looked around. The flowers, and all the people drowned out the one scent she wanted.
Tasha cursed herself for not staying with hunting like she said she would. A practiced sense of smell would have paid off here. Just as she was about to give up, eyes peered someone walking away from her. The braid. It was almost identical to hers. What were the odds? She couldn't just go up to a stranger based on that. Especially if it wasn't an Olcan. 'Hey sorry, your hair is like mine and you smell like me.' Yea, crazy person vibes right there.
So Tasha let her go for now before continuing on her run. The entire way back to her house, Tasha's thoughts lingered on the stranger, hoping they would run into each other again so she could find out who she was.

As Malina finished her errands that day, she was ambivalent about the choice she'd made. She hadn't really been thinking when she fled from that stranger. She burned with curiosity - just who was that woman? Was it someone she knew, but simply didn't recognize? Someone from a sister pack? In the latter case, common sense told her that steering clear would be the right move - if she was back in Europe.

This wasn't Europe.

What might she have learned? What could have been? Would it have been worth the trouble? Malina still dreaded seeing the woman again, of course. She would have been a fool not to. But it had been so long since she'd last heard news of home...

These thoughts ran through her mind all through the night, and her next day at work. As she cleared that fire line, as she made her patrol, her thoughts were stuck - what had happened to create a female alpha? Were other packs more accepting of such things, or were they simply changing with the times? Malina's father had said such a thing was impossible.

She needed a drink. Since the weather was still not too bad, she drove into town after work that day. There was a bar she liked - one whose beer and atmosphere reminded her a little of home. The owner knew almost as many languages as Malina, and they bantered in German and French and Serbian when he wasn't busy. It kept them both sharp.

Tasha had trouble getting to sleep that night. The entirety of the next day she was distracted, and her employees noticed. She hardly touched any equipment in her free time and most of it was spent in her office, pacing back and forth, the thoughts of the stranger with the Olcan scent still running through her mind.
When their shifts were done, some of the employees invited her out to hopefully get her mind off of everything going on. With a smile she accepted and headed home to change.
Tasha was early when she made it to the bar. Seeing no sense in waiting around outside, she decided to head inside. Wearing a pair of tight jeans, a simple t-shirt, and a black jacket over, Tasha drew attention. Honestly anything she wore drew attention, and she was used to the looks by now.
Ignoring hungry eyes, she sat at the bar waiting for her company to arrive and mindlessly ordered a whiskey sour. Shortly after, the drink sat in front of her. Taking a sip of it, the were enjoyed the taste before swallowing hard.
The scent was back...

Malina was sitting at the bar when the smell came back to her. She slouched in her seat and visibly deflated. Of all the places on this godsdamned island...

This wasn't going to go away by itself, and she was already getting sick of avoiding it. So she took a few greedy gulps of her beer and turned around, scanning the room.

It didn't take too long to identify the woman. Same hair, same jawline, same big muscles. Malina stared openly, no longer caring who noticed. It was only now, sitting across from her, that Malina really noticed those ears and that nose. Aside from that, the two women looked like they could be sisters.

She took another breath, mentally bracing herself for whatever might come of this. Soon, she was sliding into the seat across from the woman alpha.

"Malina Olcan. We might as well introduce ourselves at this point."

Tasha wasn't going to lose the scent this time. She looked around quickly, scanning with her eyes and sniffing the air. It didn't take long before a woman sat down with her. She was an Olcan. No doubt about that.
The hair she had seen yesterday wasn't a coincidence. And their jawlines were almost a mirror image. Tasha was honestly at a loss for words. It had been a long time, much longer than she cared to remember since she had seen kin. But who was this person?
"Tasha. Tasha Olcan. So it was you yesterday?"
Malina seemed a little reluctant to actually introduce herself to Tasha, but that was understandable. They were complete strangers, but directly related. Tasha blinked a few times before looking back to Malina with a smile.
"I'm sorry. It's....it's nice to meet you."

Was it her yesterday? Malina nodded. It had to be.

Tasha said it was nice to meet her, and Malina flashed her a wry smile. "I'll take your word for it, Tasha." She took a long sip of her drink and laughed a little. "So, I've been around for... a pretty long time. But I've always heard that it was impossible for a woman to become an alpha. It smells like some big things have been happening since I left."

This would give Tasha a chance to show off, and Malina was certain that Tasha would take that opportunity. It took a certain type of person to become an Alpha, after all.

Questions Tasha knew would come up, were coming up sooner than expected. If she didn't recognize Tasha by name, had all memory of her been removed from the pack history? She wanted to snarl at the thought, but didn't think that kind of an impression was appropriate, seeing as how Malina was a bit apprehensive.
"If you don't know my name, then you haven't been around nearly as long as you think you have."
Tasha sighed and took a generous gulp of her drink before continuing.
"I don't even know where to begin tracing back to know who you might know from...my pack. But clearly you are blood. My father was Farkas Olcan. He was pack alpha during the Roman wars with the Germanic barbarian tribes. I challenged and beat him fairly, but the pack didn't follow our oldest of traditions, and exiled me."
She finishes off the drink and quickly orders another.
"I refused to force people to comply through fear, because I felt that was part of the issue we were having and believed it enough, that even though it meant losing everything, I stood my ground on that belief."

Oh, fantastic. Malina had already hurt the alpha's fragile little ego by not knowing who she was. She already knew this would be taken as an insult. She already knew it would come back to bite her - and she was already prepared to shut that down when it happened. Tasha didn't have power over Malina the way her father did. This realization brought a small smile to her lips.

Tasha's story gave Malina pause, however. Eyebrows raised.

"A century and a half is a pretty long time by human standards, at least, but next to people like you I might as well be a baby. Farkas was my... great-great-grandfather, I think. Plus another 'great' or two, maybe." She shrugged. "I've heard a few stories about those days, but most of the history they filled my head with before I left started centuries after all that."

She could definitely see why Tasha was starting to drink faster.
