They said that old habits died hard.

Well, Scott had some rather old habits that refused to die. Unfortunately, not all of them were necessarily legal. Such as his odd bouts of obsession - which led to things such as stalking. It was not a lie to say that he never really thought of it as such. He always thought of it as just admiring his subject. Was it so wrong to want to know even more about them? To know why their hair smelled so great in the hallways or why they always seemed to glow despite the low lights during presentations. Scott just observed, wondering how to address going up to them this time. The demon took his time in observing them, trying to find out just what they liked. They could only get so much from watching them at school, so he decided to start watching after class hours too.

Maybe he should have used a different from every time he followed them home from the school, because it was becoming more and more noticeable. The same teenage boy standing at the house - after school hours and sometimes in the middle of the night. Sometimes he couldn't sleep and just standing across from the object of his affections house.. It made him feel so much more comfortable. But Scott was escalating again. He couldn't really explain his thought process in terms of this, he just knew he had to get closer.

It started with just sitting in the backyard. The next door neighbor had some nice trees in the back, offering a darker shadow as the sun was going down. And the night time offered a nice cover if he just wanted to watch. But though watching for a day or two was nice, he wondered what it would be like to actually be inside the house. The architecture was nice and the furnishings were beautiful - sure. But Scott wanted to be like those friends they brought home; he wanted to actually be in their room. Stand in the center of it and know that he had been inside their little safe haven.

He knew they left their window open - they probably liked the crisp nighttime air that the island offered. It was just a matter of getting up there. Scott, though fit enough to pass his physical fitness classes, still had yet to master the art of parkour. So climbing up to their window was not in any way subtle. Especially the crash from when he had remembered the desk at the window when he rolled onto it and had his back hit the hardwood floor. Shit. For once he was grateful he had chosen to actually come in while the family was out for dinner. This way Scott could explore freely as long as he didn't leave anything out of place.

He had forgotten how long he had been in there, running his hands on the spines of the books on their shelves or walking through their room like it was an art museum.

Raphael got the call. Suspected breaking and entering. One of the victim's next door neighbors, a nosy little old lady (bless her heart) noticed the boy climb in through the open window and called the emergency line immediately. She could confirm that there wasn't a boy the suspect's apparent age in that family.

Raphael turned off the sirens as he pulled into the neighborhood. He expected the suspect to be armed and dangerous, or powered and dangerous. He learned quick to always expect the worst on these calls.

He saw the light pouring out of the open window on the upper floor. God damn it, why did he have to go in through a window that high up? Now he couldn't easily get inside without kicking the door down, and that would give the suspect ample time to run away. He called in for another patrol to help him cover some escape routes.

Once he had backup, he decided the best option would be to walk up and ring the doorbell. Kick the anthill, see what comes out.

DING-DONG

Hopefully it would just be a false alarm. That was another reason he didn't want to kick down the door - the risk that it would be for nothing.

As soon as he heard the sirens, Scott thought about ways to escape.

He doubted they came alone, honestly. One always covered the front and one seemed to always be looking for the back, just in case they tried to run. His wrists burned at the old memories of too tight handcuffs and terrible attempts to escape. Maybe the police here were more competent, and they probably had stronger abilities than he did.

Perhaps it was just better to face them. Scott had always been a talented liar - it was how he managed to get into different schools and different lives with new faces. Perhaps it was just better to face them... with a new face. Full body shape shifting was his least favorite things to do because of how much energy it took - but if it meant he could get off scot-free, then he didn't care.

Scott forced himself to shift into his default female form, annoyed at the ringing of the doorbell. His transformed vocal cords allowed him to sound more feminine as he called out, "Just a second!". Looking down at his body, he twirled around to make sure everything was perfect. His blue hair was now chin length, covering his oddly pointed ears. Removing his shoes, socks, and adjusting his jacket, he figured he looked safe enough to answer the door.

Knowing it was the police, he could feel his heart rate rise. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves, forcing his breathing to steady and hope his pupils didn't dilate too much - or maybe he could write it off as the sunlight.

Opening the front door, he curled his transformed lips into a sweet smile. "Hello. Can I help you?"

A woman answered the door. This was unexpected. Raphael's nose twitched at her.

"Yes Ma'am. I'm sorry to bother you. I'm officer Quinn. One of your neighbors reported a young man breaking and entering here. We were called over here to make sure everything is alright. Have you noticed anything like that?"

His mind ran through the list of supernatural possibilities. Ghosts, hallucinations, illusions, shapeshifting, mind control. He'd have to rule at least a couple of those out. There were procedures for this. Chances are it would be a big waste of everyone's time.

The girl looked almost alarmed at the news, worriedly looking back into the home as if she was scared she hadn't noticed. Scott thanked Hell for all the things the demons had taught him, along with all of what he learned along the way. Hopefully this person couldn't look through his charade, finding the chinks in his new face.

"I haven't... I had music playing earlier, I was doing some work." The girl clutched at her shirt, looking over at to the police officer. "It's just been me at the house most of the day so..?" She rubbed the back of her neck, as she tried to entertain the possibility of it happening.

She looked up back to the officer, wiggling her toes nervously. "I mean if it would help you can take a look around but I'm fairly certain it's just been me today. My window was open because I just wanted some fresh air."

"I wouldn't feel good leaving you without taking a look around first," Raphael decided.

He turned his head and nodded, and another policeman approached them. The second policeman was much shorter than Raphael, the hulking beast of a wolf-man. Raphael stepped inside, ducking under the top of the doorway.

"Also, I'm going to want to see your ID. Just a formality." He looked into the girl's eyes, taking a moment to memorize their current color. That was how he busted his last two magical imposters. The second thing he honed in on was the shape of her earlobes - another frequently overlooked detail.

The girl just shook her head. "I don't have it on me right now." She explained. It was true - Scott never did learn how to drive, let alone take the time to get lessons or a license on Manta Carlos. Not yet, anyway. Maybe when he got completely settled into the lifestyle here he would. "I can go upstairs and get it if you'd like?"

Her eyes were a peculiar shade of blue - with normal irises but her eyes were a darker shade of blue before fading down into a lighter shade - but it seemed a shade too bright. Her earlobes were attached to her head, only her right ear pierced while the other remained pierced - but she wore no earrings at the moment.

"That would work. But I should probably come up with you. The call said that the suspect came in through a second floor window. He might still be up there"

That wasn't the only reason Raphael didn't want to leave her alone. He'd fallen for a lot of supernatural tricks before, and he didn't intend to leave himself open to any shenanigans today.

"Of course." She nodded, but she felt a twang of annoyance in her chest. Ugh, looks like there was no escaping the way they came. The demon moved back towards the stairs, moving into the room in which he had entered not long ago. It was fairly clean, and there was indeed a folder on the desk with a cup of pencils beside it - the window was open, as said.

The shape shifter began to go through the dresser, taking all of their self control to go through it to find all the little secrets it held. They frowned as they went through the drawers before going to the desk in front of the window and looking through that as well. It was clear they weren't finding anything, as they even went into the laundry basket.

Giving a huff, she put her hands on her hips. "I must have left it somewhere.. Ugh, this happens all the time I feel like I can never keep track of anything!"

Raphael didn't smell anyone else up there with them. He did, however, begin to notice something subtle: she didn't have the scent of this house on her. Not in the way someone who lived here would. This wasn't a perception that he could use as evidence, or even trust for himself if he was being completely honest, but it still made him more suspicious of the girl.

He also noticed a few things knocked over on the desk. This wasn't an exciting revelation; he already knew the suspect was supposed to have crawled in through the window right behind it.

"Not a problem," he said to the girl. "If you give me a name I can look you up in our system, then once we know who you are I can help my friend look around and we can get to the bottom of this."

Blue eyes and attached earlobes, he reminded himself.
