Appearance Description:
A tall, willowy woman, Cassiopeia stands at a height of 5’10.5’’ (179.1 cm) with a weight of 140 lbs (63.5 kg). She has long, graceful limbs- a dancer’s body, most would call it-, though her skillfully nimble hands showcase her more piano-oriented arts interests. As a Blackwell, she has her family’s characteristic hair and eye color; large, pupil-less pale eyes are framed by dark, inky lashes any girl would kill for, and her raven black hair goes down past her butt with feathery bangs across her forehead. She usually leaves her hair down, having long since learned how to move around without it getting in her way, but she knows several intricately beautiful styles to put it up in for special occasions. Her complexion is a flawless milky white as far as most can tell, though she has several harsh, silvery scars on her left shoulder and running down both sides of her abdomen. Cassiopeia never bothers with makeup, though her guilty pleasure is nail lacquer- she absolutely loves picking out unique colors and painting her dainty, impeccably kept nails with them. Her preferred choice of clothing consists of nearly all semi-casual black pieces, from nice jeans to knee-length skirts and blouses and button ups. When relaxing or in the privacy of her room, she’ll dress down with sweatpants and tank tops, though whenever she has to go outside the limits of the Academy’s campus, she’ll always wear a black cloak, the hood covering the top portion of her face to hide her distinctive eyes. Cassiopeia also enjoys wearing earrings- another one of her guilty pleasures is collecting cutesy earrings, like cat-shaped ones and whatnot.

Personality Description: Cassiopeia is usually described as being exceedingly quiet. This, however, is only because she tries not to interact with others due to an ingrained fear that those she gets close to will be hurt by her family in some way- obviously, this means she doesn’t have many, if any, friends. She is, of course, naturally soft-spoken, but Cassiopeia is actually quite eloquent with a melodic, almost hypnotising voice. Despite being a vampire, she is a highly empathetic, gentle being, intuitive and observant when it comes to the trials and tribulations of others. Due to her high-class upbringing and vampiric blood, she is a graceful, elegant creature, though she’s trained herself to make as few, unnoticeable movements as she can so as to not garner much attention. This has gotten her labeled as a wallflower, but when she feels safe and secure, Cassiopeia is a sociable, amiable girl with a unique, slightly morbid sense of humor.

Because she’s been hunted down by her own family for nearly a century and been alone for longer than that, Cassiopeia’s instinctive response is to be suspicious of everyone. Oh, she’ll still be polite and, if someone needs it, help behind the scenes, in a sense, but she’ll always be calculating the risks and the chances that they’ll betray her. She’s hardened her heart in this way, and it’ll take dedicated work to unearth the trusting, gentle young woman that was buried beneath the death and destruction that follows in the wake of her family’s name. It takes a long while for her to relax, especially in a new environment; she is faithless unless someone gives her a strong enough reason, and even then, she may have her doubts. In this sense, she is cynically crafty, desperate to keep the targets off of her back and willing to lie and manipulate- so as long as she isn’t truly hurting anyone- to keep her personal life a secret. Overall, Cassiopeia wants to believe with all her heart, but she’s become overly cautious of the world and can’t quite break out of it.

Powers: As a pureblood Blackwell child, Cassiopeia is able to alter people’s perceptions through willed suggestions. It is similar to a succubus’ power of suggestive seduction, though in the Blackwell case, it isn’t limited to lustful situations. For Cassiopeia, however, she can only change the perceptions of five to seven people at a time, and so as long as they aren’t particularly weak-minded, it is easily shaken off if the subject notices it; as it is more of a suggestion rather than outright influence or changing thought processes, however, it does not have a time limit but remains with the person unless they throw it off. This also does not work on people she has fairly constant contact with- her teachers and the students in her classes would quickly become immune, as they would have the time to grow used to her presence. Cassiopeia only uses this power to make herself unobtrusive, as if she weren’t worth the effort it would take to focus on, therefore allowing her an added sense of anonymity even when in a crowded room. Her skills should, supposedly, increases with age, though Cassiopeia in particular has also not really shown much aptitude with it to begin with.

Species Abilities: As a pureblood vampire, Cassiopeia is generally immortal so as long as she remains physically safe- she is vulnerable to beheadings and fire, and is unable to recover should her body be sufficiently destroyed, such as being blown up or ripped to shreds. She requires solely blood to survive, but as she refuses to drink the nutrient-rich human blood that is meant to be her only form of sustenance and instead suffices with animal blood, she is about half as strong as she could be. Regardless, she is still quite stronger than the average human, can run at high speeds and move near undetectably to the human eye, and has enhanced senses, and sports fangs that can retract into her gums when she isn’t thirsty or feeding. She also has a high healing rate and can recover from injuries that would be fatal to a human, though her healing factor is slower and wears her out more due to her tendency towards animal blood. On human blood, she can go for a full week before falling into a manic bloodlust, with her thirst becoming worse and more uncontrollable with each passing day, but as she’s used to drinking animal blood, this limit has shortened to three to four days. When in bloodlust, the veins around her eyes become extremely prominent, with her usually pale eyes taking on a wild red hue.

Biography: The notorious Blackwell Clan is an offshoot branch of one of the original vampire families, known for the almost ancient, traditionally influenced ways and their unique power of suggestion- the latter skill most likely gained from succubus blood somewhere in the lineage. As the only daughter among seven sons of the current Blackwell patriarch, Cassiopeia Ainchase Viola was given anything and everything she wanted and lived life luxuriously in the sprawling Blackwell mansion, located on a hidden island off the northeastern coast of Europe. Of course, the doting wasn’t out of a genuine sense of love from her parents, but merely their expectations that they could get Cassiopeia married off to a male of the original vampire lines and gain even more powerful connections if they kept the girl happy.

By the time she turned 100, however, it was clear that Cassiopeia wasn’t like the other vampires, or even like her siblings. Despite the beginnings of an elegance like her mother, little Cassie was much more soft-spoken, with gentle mannerisms unlike her stoic brothers. She was unerringly polite to even the servants, perceptive to their emotions and acting accordingly- if one of her personal maids was having a bad day, then she’d remain quiet and obedient, but if a butler was feeling particularly mischievous, she’d be comfortable throwing more of a fuss when being ushered off to private lessons. Her family brushed this off, either expecting the girl, still a small child by vampire standards, to grow out of this at some point or secure in the knowledge that it wouldn’t impede her as a growing young vampire.

And so, life continued. Cassiopeia was given the finest lessons in the comportment expected of a high-class lady, taught numerous dances, learned the proper manners for balls, and learned how to play the piano to sharpen her self-discipline. Despite her softer nature, she was coming along nicely, which kept her parents from hovering out of worry and her brothers from becoming too suspicious when she refused to accompany them on their trips to the local towns to ‘bother the pathetic humans’. It wasn’t until her 150th birthday that her parents realized how different she was. The 150 year mark for members of the Blackwell family is when they’re thought to be competent enough to hunt humans for themselves, rather than humans being brought to the mansion to be drained of blood before each meal so as to provide fresh blood. It is also around this age that their predatory instincts really surface for them, so the chance to hunt food for themselves is gladly taken. All of Cassiopeia’s brothers had gone through this family ritual, but when it was her turn, she found that she couldn’t do it.

Cassie couldn’t kill the poor human man she’d cornered, pleas of mercy and prayers for the family that would be left behind falling from his lips.

She returned to the mansion thirsty and ashamed, both hating herself for being too ‘weak’ to drink from the man and disgusted that she was even feeling that way. Too gentle-hearted to consider lying to her parents, she told them of her failure. For an extremely traditional family as the Blackwells, however, willingly abstaining from feeding from and killing humans was seen as a huge weakness, a stigma that no one in their right mind would want. And yet, here was Cassiopeia, who they had known to be soft and was now showing that she didn’t have the will to do what ought to be natural instinct for a vampire.

Outraged and embarrassed at the fools they had been for allowing this to continue, Cassiopeia’s father ordered her to be killed. Giving the order to his youngest son, he instructed him to take Cassiopeia away before killing her, unwilling to have the Blackwell mansion halls stained with ‘the blood of such a disgrace’. In a move much like the fairy tale Snow White, however, the young vampire couldn’t bring himself to kill his sweet sister, who he was immeasurably fond of. Instead, he brought Cassie to mainland Europe and urged her to flee, bloodying his hands with the death of an unknown, wandering vampire before returning home to report on the ‘success’ of Cassiopeia’s death.

Frightened, alone, and still quite young by vampire standards, Cassiopeia wandered Europe, staying as far away from humans as she could manage and forcing herself to live on the blood of animals. Her control was still rather poor, so she didn’t want any accidents- she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she took a human’s life. She made sure to stay well fed, even though animal blood wasn’t nearly as fulfilling, fearing the massacre that would result if she flew into a bloodlust induced mania. She spent 50 years this way, keeping to herself and struggling to survive while traveling the world and seeing all that it had to offer. She learned a lot about culture and languages, though she absolutely fell in love with the histories of each country she stayed in. She matured quickly, becoming independent but remaining the soft-spoken, kind girl she had alway been. At some point, her brother had managed to track her down, and they would arrange to meet every so often; her brother taught her what she needed to know to wield the family’s unique skill of perception altering, while Cassiopeia reassured him that she was, and would be, fine.

Their parents found out about their discreet meetings when Cassiopeia was about 240 years old. Beyond enraged that Cassiopeia was still alive- and therefore one of their sons had disobeyed them- and that her brother was actively and willingly meeting with her, their father hunted that brother down, mercilessly tearing him to little pieces while Cassiopeia fled, mourning heavily for one of the few beings that had genuinely cared for her. She went on the run, her languid pace of wandering country to country changing to a frantic sprint around the world, never staying in one place for very long.

She knew her parents would hunt her to the ends of the earth if need be, all in order to tie up the loose end that she was to them.

105 years later, Cassiopeia had turned into a highly suspicious young woman. She trusted very few, if anyone at all, and she used her power to remain just another face in the crowd- she couldn’t avoid civilization as well as she could, what with cities spreading out far and wide and all. She knew that her family was still out there, searching for her and calling for her blood, as a close call ended up with scarring along her body, so she couldn’t stop yet. In her travels, however, she had ended up saving the life of someone who turned out to be an emissary of Starlight Academy, sent away from Manta Carlos to search for special children that risked harming themselves through their untrained powers. The woman easily recognized the vampire for what she was, and offered her a place at the Academy. Of course, Cassiopeia being as paranoid as she was then, didn’t quite trust the offer, but kept it in mind.

It took nearly four years for her to finally accept, a soul-deep weariness urging her to settle down and rest. And so, she contacted the woman and enrolled in the Academy- under a different surname, naturally- after politely asking for an explanation on the island’s series of protections against outside interference.
