"I guess the whole academic side of it. Learning the law is fine and dandy but when a new species comes to the island we have to accommodate them accordingly and learn a whole new set of rules. On top of that, there is the sheer randomness of the scenario. One type of Fae can need x treatment while another finds x treatment highly offensive and has to be dealt with y. Maybe its the scale is all that worries me."

He wondered how much studying most officers did to make sure that they didn't get in a shitty situation of guessing the wrong species at a glance alone. He wasn't aware of the type of reprimands an officer could get for making the wrong choice at the wrong time but he was sure that this job had a whole extra layer of stress thrown on top of it because of the islands large diversity.

"Yep," Angelo confirmed, sagging back in his chair. "It's pretty much a whole other job, honestly. A million things to keep track of. A million things to keep tabs on. You get used to it, honestly. To not guessing. To asking. But also to knowing. To looking at someone and being like 'that person has black sclera, they might be a demon, be wary about religious symbols potentially agitating them'. Even if you're wrong, it's better safe then sorry."

Vatar'd have a hell of a time with that, but there was also time for it. No need to rush.

"Come on," Angelo said, pushing himself upright. "I'll take you out on patrol. Should be boring, but it'll give you an idea of what walking the beat is like."

That was what Vatar'd come for in the first place, after all. To see what it was really like.
