Being fairly new to the school, Sean still hadn't met very many people outside of spacecon and would still be an unfamiliar face to most of the students. And even though there had been a lot of people there, the little guy certainly looked young enough to be a student for anyone who didn't know he was working at the academy. Especially sitting on a bench, writing away in his notebook.

He'd felt a little trapped upon his arrival, but now the little schemer was ready to learn everything he could about the inhabitants of this island and rob them all blind, even if it did mean up having to put up with mythical creatures and other gods. Besides, there was so much more opportunities for plotting here than simple robbery. The new knowledge alone was worth a little inconvenience.

Even his simple job as a secretary was gaining him quite a bit of info - certain student's records had been very interesting indeed. At the moment, Sean was on a short break from said job, taking advantage of the time to recopy his notebook since he didn't need to eat. It might've seemed like the courtyard was a rather public place for this, but the god was using his own personal shorthand code and was only copying his lists of the people he'd met, not any of his notebooks with schemes. Although he probably looked like he was too attentively focused on writing to pay much attention to his surroundings, the guy never stopped surreptitiously watching people pass by and listening for anything noteworthy.

Havoc was not exactly giving the election his all. Since he wasn't going for president, he was content to coast, aiming for auditor... or maybe something lower. He just wanted to be on the council so that he could advise, since there was no equivalent of a transition team.

Which there should have been. Maybe that should have been his platform?

His posters were simple enough - his name, his face, a few short bullet points about his credentials. Simple. Easy. Enough that, combined with his memorable name, it would be enough to swing some people. Simple enough. He'd been handing fliers out for the better part of an hour, winding his way through the school as he did. The courtyard wasn't his first stop, and it wasn't his last stop, but it did have at least one person sitting down, seemingly making notes.

Maybe he'd like a distraction.

"Excuse me," Havoc said, his expression completely blank. "Are you busy at the moment?"

Since Sean hadn't been here long and wasn't a student, he hadn't gotten to know the people running in the student council elections. He hadn't looked up the former members either, though he'd certainly be keeping track of who won. Either way, he didn't recognize the man who walked up to him.

Even though he didn't look up until he was spoken to, he was quietly assessing the student from the moment he headed towards him. Sean suspected the guy was former military of some sort, though it was probably irrelevant. He hadn't been in the military for an incredibly long time, but he'd seen people with that air since then and besides that was fairly good at reading people. You couldn't be a good con without learning people and he was very good at what he did.

Sean took in the fliers and the seriousness of the stranger's expression and found himself reminded of that man, Gask, who'd been getting people to sign his petition at spacecon. However, it was more likely this had something to do with the student elections. Still in info gathering mode, and always willing to find out what he could if people actually approached him, Sean decided he'd find out what the guy wanted anyways.

Looking up at the man, Sean was aware he probably looked like a nerdy little student and saw no reason to give any other impression. He spoke with the barest hint of an Irish accent. "Just some notes. I'm not busy at all."

Havoc was both very easy and next to impossible to read. He was clearly military, and walked and held himself with a demeanor that screamed it. On the other hand, anyone trying to get a read on his emotions were going to suffer, because Havoc barely had any and was thus almost impossible to read. Sometimes he faked emotions, miming smiles and the like, but the majority of the time he simply didn't bother, presenting himself as blank and emotionless. It was Manta Carlos, and most people didn't really care. For all they knew he could have been an emotionless alien race, and being insulting towards him would be speciesist.

Havoc held out a flier for Sean to take, the rest still stacked neatly in his left arm.

"I'm campaigning for reelection to student council. Have you been following anything about the elections?" The answer was almost definitely no, because no one ever did. People didn't really care about the student council, and getting people involved was an exercise in tedium. Havoc had learned from his experiences campaigning the first time around - keeping it short, memorable, and not bothering too much with the issues was probably for the best.

Sean wasn't concerned that he couldn't figure out the guy's emotional state - emotions were volatile and changing and one of the main causes of his plans going awry. It was a lot easier to fit those neutral types into his schemes, and besides - not everyone wore their heart on their sleeve. It wasn't as if he himself was any easier to read, even with his more calm and innocent demeanor. And the logical mind was just as easy to con, if he wished to, it just required different tactics.

But right now Sean had no schemes directly involving the stranger, he was just gathering info on someone who might become important later. It was only good practice as far as he was concerned.

Sean took the flier and gave it an apparently casual glance, though he was filing everything away in his mind. There was no real reason for him to keep up his new student act but he did so anyway. Lying was as natural as breathing for him, and it was just his habit to attempt to get more out of people than he gave away, even in situations where it didn't matter.

He shook his head slowly. "No - I'm new here. I don't know anything about the elections. What does the student council do here, the same as normal schools? What are ye running for?" Just quiet and curious, someone who'd probably never been involved in student council before.

Ahh, explaining the student council. For the most part, Havoc had a very different opinion of it then most.

"Yes, it works similarly to other schools. The student council has some amount of say in school policies, although not a significant amount. It serves primarily as a training ground for those who wish to pursue leadership or political roles in the future."

Which was his opinion, whether it was entirely correct or not.

"I'm running for re-election, at a lower position then before. I want to help the new team transition in before leaving."

Certainly an interesting take on the student council, and perhaps not entirely inaccurate. Sean actually didn't have much, if any, experience with such activities considering he had rarely actually gone to school - most of his careers had been gained through experience and lies. He was a big believer in on-the-job training and constant learning even without any formal education.

"They actually do have some say? Sounds kinda important ta me. Always thought it was more of a popularity contest. Never got involved in somethin' like that. Politics? Is that what yer into?"

It was generally a good idea to keep an eye on future politicians or leaders, even when they were just starting out at such a low level. Sean was always looking for an angle, even though he found himself preferring low-class crime and theft to the times he had associated with more ambitious people.

"Re-election? So any others re-running or is it a bunch of new faces? They 'ave no help transitioning? Have to do it all on their own? I know it's the student council, but the staff aren't completely hands-off, are they?"

A few schemes were already starting to run through Sean's head, nothing concrete, and in fact mostly just out of habit. But still, he was glad he had gotten this chance to see student council from one of the student's perspectives instead of just gathering information later.

A popularity contest it was not, to say the least.

"No," Havoc said firmly. "If it was a popularity contest, I wouldn't have placed anywhere on the council, let alone at its head." Havoc was under no illusions about his popularity. It had certainly grown since he'd taken a spot on the council, but before that? Not at all. He'd been a no one, and likely had more people worried he was going to turn out to be a serial killer then he had people who supported him.

"As far as I'm aware, no one else is running for re-election. The staff helps with the transition, but having an entirely new council seems like a poor idea. I prefer to remain hands on and make sure the council goes well before I graduate at the end of this term."

His logic was simple, and as far as Havoc was concerned, true. He didn't have any ulterior motives the way he had when he'd first taken a position with the student council. Back then he'd wanted to get used to civilians, but after so long on the island he felt he had a decent enough grasp of things, even if he tended to discount and outright ignore emotional responses the majority of the time.

"I assume you have no interest in running for student council?"

Sean nodded slowly as if considering the other man's words. And he was considering them, mildly impressed by the level-headed matter-of-factness. Quite refreshing after the long weekend he'd had. Most people on this island did not give such a sensible first impression.

"You must've been a good campaigner then. I don't think I could've done something like tha'." He almost certainly could've if he'd been a student and put his mind to it, but he'd never have tried to be head - treasurer maybe. Really he was just probing the man now - he wasn't expecting to get much out of him. Although, he'd have to make a note to find out about the rest of the people running. He'd changed his mind about waiting.

An entirely new student council seemed like a great idea to Sean, especially with staff helping them transition. But probably for the same reason Havoc thought there should be someone who knew the ropes. The little schemer was definitely going to attempt worming his way into a helpful position, though he still wasn't sure how it would fit into his plans. The tiniest bit of influence could still be useful.

"That all seems... logical. No, no I have no interest in running. Ah don't think it would suit me, really. But I hope your campaign goes well... If you're looking for a lower position - is there anyone you'd recommend voting for, for the head?"

He could've used Havoc's question to let him know he was staff, but Sean didn't feel like being honest at the moment. Besides, he wasn't actively lying, and he kinda thought it would be amusing to see how long he could keep up the act, especially if Havoc never found out about it until later.

Havoc could certainly be described as sensible. He was to the point, and logical to the point of coming across as cold. He certainly wasn't a person who was going to come across as over emotional.

"My campaign picked a single point and acted until it was accomplished. Having a single point makes it easy to campaign and explain your focus. Having too many dilutes the issue." It was a problem he saw a lot of from other campaigners. They tried to appeal to everyone and ended up with only very general platforms, not picking a specific one.

"I haven't found anyone who I would feel comfortable endorsing," Havoc said. It wasn't that they were bad or anything - it was just that Havoc had barely dealt with any of them, and there was no point in endorsing someone who might not be any good.

Havoc paused, considering. What was the correct thing to do during this lull in conversation? Probably ask the man something about himself. People enjoyed talking about themselves, and it would leave a positive impression.

"Are you new to the island?"
