Though Hwum had claimed to be unfamiliar at interacting with others, it seemed as though the opposite was true; Raella found herself constantly at ease thanks to the lighthearted banter between the two and as for the first impression...well... it astounded her that Hwum could be stressing over something so trivial. With her voice tuned back to that the smooth flirt which Raella wanted to be perceived as, she then countered. "Darling you can't invoke a better first impression than a mighty dragon coming to the rescue. Speaking of which..." Tilting her head downwards, she focused her gaze on the other woman and ignored the heat rising to her face.

"Thank you."
A simple expression of gratitude yet that could possibly be the most genuine sentence which escaped her lips, pure and unfiltered.

As Hwum explained her day blindness, Raella couldn't help but feel a tinge of empathy for her; not being able to see during the day must be a terrible inconvenience. However, putting more thought into it, most people were unable to see at night or in darkness hence it could be an almost fair trade-off. After all, unlike the day, there wasn't much to do at night; shopping malls and theme parks were mostly closed and while there's always the bustling night market, the whole area is brightly litted hence rendering it inaccessible to Hwum.

"I... don't know what to say, only being able to live during the night and in dark areas sounds a little like isolation. Well, in the very least, do you enjoy being around nature?"

Hwum would've probably gotten all flustered and embarrassed over Raella's flirty words again, if thw girl hadn't ended her statement with such a genuine thank you. Hwum smiled gently at Raella and gave her hand a small squeeze.
"I would do it anytime. And for thundering Earth, stop calling me darling and beauty and whatnot. I'm not anything that fancy."
Hwum huffed a bit at the end, her cheeks warm.

Hwum wasn't naturally nocturnal, and back home she had lived according to the sun's rising and falling. After all, she had lived underground in tunnels. But here Hwum had to live, got to live, under the sky. And it had been the chief and her family's idea Hwum tried living nocturnally. Thus far it had worked well enough, but...it was a bit lonely.

"It can't be helped, what you can't do you can't do. And thanks to it I can meet interesting people like you."
Hwum smiled happily at Raella.
"Oh, this is my first time in a forest. It's really amazing, I love it. Well, aside from the monsters, of course."
Hwum laughed a bit.

To be frank, Raella found Hwum's unusual reactions rather endearing. As unusual as it sounds, Hwum was the first person to react in such an innocent and sheepish manner. Life for Raella would be all good and according to plan save for one fact: Hwum was still holding onto her hand. Now that was an oddity, an absolute eccentric to Raella. It was foreign and she just couldn't wrap her mind around the whole concept of holding hands or general human contact at all. Raella swore she had a comeback to Hwum's statement just resting at the tip of her tongue, ready for the world to hear yet the slight pressure at the palm of her hand made her train of thought derail into an empty vacuum. Against her will, she felt her wings unfurl ever so slightly in a subtle jolt as she uncharacteristically nodded in response.

The way Hwum seemed to be straightforward, kind and open about her emotions puzzled Raella to say the least. It made her all the more fascinating and alluring at the same time. Evidently, Raella had much to learn from the dragon.

And thanks to it I can meet interesting people like you.

She was charming, she was confident, she was Raella and she refused to be bested by such a simple statement. However, at this juncture, the analogy of a staggering male eventually falling face flat on the floor would be an appropriate comparison to her state of mind. "I- I'm really not all that interesting!" much to her dismay, her voice escaped her lips more of a squeak than a proper addressment. Letting out a cough, she quickly regained her composure before speaking again, her tone much more collected than her previous statement. "On the contrary dear, I'd say you were the more compelling one; how could you have lived so long without going to a forest?"

Hwum didn't expect Raella to agree to easily to stop calling her...all the things the girl had called her. Being flattered like that felt Hwum feel strange and frustrated, she felt that praise had to be earned through actions and virtue, not just by being pretty or something. And Hwum was ready to be as stubborn as the bedrock when it came to standing behind her views.

It felt like Raella was inside a cocoon, and occasionally the cocoon cracked and showed a glimpse of who Raella really was, what she really thought. But then she patched the cocoon right up and went back to smiling in that way that made Hwum feel fidgety and nervous.
Hwum smiled a bit when Raella's voice hitched and shook hear head.
"You're plenty interesting, I feel like I could spent a lot of time with you and never get bored."
At least not if Raella kept changing her demeanor every few minutes. Although Hwum never got bored of being with people, aside from Hrek. But he was as dull as boreon.
Get it? Boreon? As in boron? But with bore because he's boring?

Being called dear didn't bother Hwum as much, surprisingly. That she had been called many times before by the older males in her clan and her mentor, the Pillar. But coming from Raella it still made Hwum feel strange, and her cheeks were a bit warm as she cleared her throat a bit and let go of Raella's hand. She could smell there weren't any monsters around anymore, and they were getting out of the Forbidden forest. But Hwum still remained close to Raella. She didn't know how good her nightvision was. Because to be able to launch all those compliments at Hwum in this dark meant Raella had at least some degree of nightvision.
"Well, you see, I grew up and lived most of my life in underground tunnels. Didn't have much trees there, barely any greens. I've never seen this many trees in one place, it's incredible."
At this point Hwum looked around in awe, taking a deep breath and taking in the cold, but still earthy night air.

Now Raella has had compliments thrown her way before as have everyone else, however, "interesting" had never been one of them. Once stripped of her flirtatious and humorous exterior, she would be left with nothing but an empty husk of a personality. Hence, Raella simply couldn’t comprehend nor understand why the other would feel that way about her. Though she wanted to reject the compliment, Raella offered a simple thanks instead. It was a trivial matter anyway; should Hwum grow closer to her, she would inevitably come to the same conclusion as Raella did.

As Hwum spoke of living underground, Raella felt a pang of empathy for her. Since most of Raella’s childhood took place right next to nature, she had grown attached to wildlife for it was her solace from the isolation. Just picturing living underground with no connection to other life forms apart from your family members felt incredibly lonesome. It was a wonder how Hwum was still seemingly so positive and curious about the new world around her.

Lips curling upwards to form a genuine smile, Raella peeled away a layer of her facade after finding some common ground with the dragon. With her sentences coming across in a much more casual tone, she replied "Yes, I understand that feeling too! Before I came here, I lived by the sea and never talked to others my age. Being in a completely new environment is quite exciting!"

Feeling that there was no reason to remain so guarded and fearful of crossing the unseen boundary, she then asked, her tone significantly more serious than before: "Wasn't it lonely to live in isolation all that time though?" Letting the silence settle for a few seconds, she then continued, her voice now containing just a slight hint of apathy "I mean, I know I was."

Hwum had not hated living underground, there she had been able to see noth with her eyes and feet and her clan, whole family, was there with her. But she had always been drawn under the sky, to watch the stars and wish she could see the sun.
Hwum answered Raella's genuine smile, recognizing it as such. Hwum nodded excitedly, the girl clearly had some understanding of how Hwum felt.
"I haven't still seen the sea yet, but I've been told it looks amazing. Before I have only seen mountains, they look beautiful as well but I can't even begin to imagine such a large basically flat surface."

Lonely? Well, yes, sometimes. I was surrounded by family, but they were all different from me in ways that created a kind of wall. I could often break through it, but sometimes I felt isolated."
Hwum said in a slightly sad tone and smiled at Raella. Hwum didn't miss Raella's apathy, and touched her hand to the girl's shoulder gently.
"This island is full of people, I'm certain you won't be lonely here."

At the slightest touch, Raella tilted her head, locking her gaze onto Hwum as she turned to face her. Perhaps their idle conversation caused her mind to lose track of time, however, it soon dawned on her that the edge of the forest was in sight. Leaning down, she allowed herself to slip back to her facade except this time, it aided the demon in conveying her true intentions. With the edges of her lips slowly curling into an unfeigned smile once more, she lifted her hand, the tips of her fingers trailing an uncharted route from Hwun's waist caressing and frolicking with the soft fabric of her shirt before they came to a rest by the side of her cheek. Letting her warm breath whisk past the base of the dragon's neck, she willed her voice to come across as smoothly, edging on charming but her tone remained sincere.

"You're right, perhaps one day you too could join me on one of the forlorn nights." Raella let a few beats of delicate silence drone before gently tilting the other's chin to a side and planting a soft kiss on Hwum's cheek. A gesture not too intimate yet more than enough to wordlessly convey her message:

And I hope you do.

Stepping back, she gave the other a final nod before unfurling her wings and lifting herself off the ground, leaving behind nothing but a cooling gush of wind.
