Jeremiah let go of Verda so that she could go help, happy that someone else was so eager to join in. He felt flowers bloom in his hair when Celeste complimented him, pale rosy pink daisies that the butterfly on his head immediately went to. "Ah, yes I do love taking care of the plants and animals. We never had bee hives back home, but there were a few around that we would ask for honey from from time to time when we needed it."

He was quick to help with the last of the saplings that needed to be moved, letting his butterfly friend just chill out on top of his head all the while. "Where are your bee friends? I can help you move them safely here even with the cold, I already have the runes written up and everything."

"They're living in my dorm room right now," Verda admitted, "and it's really not ideal. It's warm and sheltered, sure, but the stress of such close quarters is really getting to them. And me. They're not very good at complicated instructions like 'don't drink out of my mug when I'm drinking out of my mug'." Verda made a face and brushed her hands off.

She turned to the others and gasped. "Oh my gosh the flowers in your hair are so cute?!"

Verda skipped a bit closer to Jeremiah and leaned in to peer at his head. "And you've got a little butterfly buddy!" She got much quieter when she noticed. "Hi there little buddy! You can't understand me cuz I only know a bee talkin' spell but you're real pretty! Lookit youuuu, lookit your pretty little feelers, are you a good flutterby? Yes you aaare. Your big buddy here is gonna help me find my bees a home, yes he is, awwww look at your little proboscis."

"That little beauty is Jeremiah's familiar," Celeste said with a smile that grew wider and wider as she watched Verda interact with Lili. It was adorable to see someone who loves small creatures as much as her nephew did.

"I think she likes you," Celeste said as she saw the butterfly calmly flutter its wings.

Jeremiah actually blushed when Verda leaned in to inspect the flowers that had grown in his hair. "Ah yes. They are part of me and - oh yes, her name is Lili. She is my familiar. A friend gave her to me when she was just a caterpillar and I didn't want her to die in the cold so I kept her in my room."

"But, ah-" he segued away from himself as a topic, letting Lili crawl down onto his face as he spoke softly so as not to disturb her, "We can get your hives out of your room and bring them here. Your friends will be safe and have plenty to pollinate until Spring comes and they can be let out."

Verda gave Jeremiah back his personal space as he spoke.

"Sounds like a great plan!" She said. "I'll need something to partially block the hive entrances when we get them here, though, like some spare branches or some boards- have y'all heard of the 3 feet or 3 miles rule? Bees will get lost trying to go to their old hive locations unless the new hive is within three feet, or has been moved so far that their little bee navigation systems reset. If y'can keep them all inside the hive during transport, though, making a big weird obstacle near the hive entrance makes them recalibrate their route when they leave, and then the foragers don't get lost."

She took a moment to look Jeremiah and Celeste over. "We'll need a good wheelbarrow or dolly, too, I left them extra comb for the winter and the transport and the hives weigh like 90 pounds right now. I can get them up onto something with wheels but carrying them over by foot would be," she clicked her tongue, "a journey."

"I'll be back in a few minutes. I know we have a wheelbarrow, and possibly a dolly too, in the backroom," Celeste explained as she watched Verda and her nephew and had to smile again.

"You two can make more room over there for the bees if you think that it's not enough," she informed them. "I moved a few fruit trees out of the way, but you may need to make more room for them," Celeste called out as she slipped into the back room area of the greenhouse, and returned a few moments later - after some clanging and banging of metal - with a wheelbarrow turned upside down on a flat dolly.

[[Sorry for the delay. I've had kinda low energy for posting so what I do have has been going elsewhere]]

Jeremiah beamed at Celeste, moving to help her with the wheelbarrow and dolly that she brought out. "I can also ask the wind to help keep the hives steady and warm while we move them here. Just lead the way and I'll follow you wherever we need to go, Verda."

Once the wheelbarrow was removed, Jeremiah grabbed onto the dolly's handle with both hands. "I don't think we'll need both, and with this the hives won't be at any weird angles that could make them more likely to tip over, yes?"

[[it's cool, I feel that.]]

"I'll take the wheelbarrow anyway in case we don't wanna make two trips between the dorms and here," Verda said, "I've got a couple extra blankets I can stuff in around the hive, and if I tell them we're going someplace with flowers they won't get too mad. They're good bees, really."

Verda lead the way out of the greenhouse, and kept up a friendly chatter. The wheels on the dolly had a slight squeak, and the wheelbarrow had a little wobble, but they did pretty well on the hard-packed earth. Frosty conditions were good for something, at least.

"Outside of gardening club, what do y'all do with your time? Any other hobbies or jobs around?"

"Oh, well outside of the club I spend a lot of time with my mother and my aunt Celeste and Grandfather. I also enjoy taking care of some of the animals in the shelter. There was a blind Cockatrice named Gertrude. She was very sweet."

Jeremiah pushed his cart out of the greenhouse, humming softly under his breath as he waited for and followed Verda's lead to go collect the bees. This was exciting in a small way, like a very short and safe adventure. He would need to tell Father about it the next time that they visited with one another.

"What about you though? What do you do for fun, Verda?"

"Well, firstly, I look at pictures of cute animals, so you have got to send me a pic of Gertrude sometime, that sounds adorable. Otherwise, hrm..."

Verda's tail swished a bit in the crisp air as she thought. Their footfalls crunched an odd rhythm with the squeaky wheels.

"I read a lot of poetry, I guess. Mostly when I'm relaxing I'm also hanging out with people and sipping something warm and having a chat, but I don't know quite enough people here yet to do that. I'm trying to get into pottery, because I know I'm terrible at crochet and knitting, like, my aunt tried to teach me but she agreed it just don't work in my brain for some reason-" She laughed a little, "-kept doing the stitches backwards and mirrored and sideways and losing count- but I like making things with my hands, y'know? Feels good to make a physical memory in the world, even if it don't turn out great. Have you tried any crafts?"
