"I spend a lot of time in the woods, talking to the plants and the animals. I don't read much poetry, but I do like fantasy stories."

Jeremiah picked up the pace a bit so that he could walk more beside Verda than behind her, smiling all the way to where her bee gives were kept.

"Actually yes, I do. We made most of our own things when I lived with my dads. I know how to weave baskets and also knit. I was going to learn how to make furniture too, but- ah, well. I had to leave home."

He smiled over at her, leaving that part vague. He didn't need to bother her with his whole background and why he had come to live on Manta Carlos anyway.

Verda navigated the wheelbarrow through the dorm building's double doors with judicious use of elbows and wings to hold them at bay and quite a bit of clambering over the wheelbarrow handles. It was not the most efficient way to get inside, but nothing broke.

"Fantasy stories are fun! You should give me a rec list sometime," she said, shoving the wheelbarrow forward with her foot, "I like seeing what other people are reading, it gives you a lot of insight into what they like to think about, y'know?"

Verda attempted to hold both doors open once she had the wheelbarrow clear, but clearly realized that taking up the entire doorway with precarious balance wasn't a good plan to get the dolly (or Jeremiah) inside.

"It's really cool that you know how to make baskets and stuff! And y'know," she said, abandoning her plan and holding one door open politely instead, "there's no reason to give up on furniture carpentry. There are a crazy number of electives available here, I'm sure you could find a class somewhere in woodworking at least. Like, I know learning from strangers is never really the same as learning from family, less of the bonding, but classes are usually taught by people with a lot of experience, and you shouldn't give up on your interests, y'know? Now's the time to learn things and explore, while classes are cheap and you don't have a job and a house!"

"I'll get you a list! Most of them are in German though, so I don't know if they have been translated. I am sure you can find something though."

Jeremiah helped with the awkward shuffle of feet and elbows that they had to manage to get both the wheelbarrow and the dolly inside, making a mental note to have Lili set up some runes that he could use to keep the door open on their way back out. He hummed and smiled, casting waves and friendly greetings to everyone that they passed. Verda was right, of course. There was no reason he couldn't still learn to make furniture. But it did kind of sadden him that the methods his parents had used, which he knew had been passed down through Da's family for a few generations, were just gone now.

"I think I will take that up. I could also teach you to weave baskets - it is a lot easier than knitting. I make baskets to take fruit to the Twelve. Oh, they are twelve old gods who live here now and give us minor blessings," he added, realizing that Verda might not be aware of the Twelve yet. Maybe he could introduce them sometime. He had a feeling that she would like October and Mister September.
