==> Allan.

Allan quietly made his way through the crowd of students in the hallways and the lounge when he tried to find his dorm room. He had been told he was placed in a two-person room and as much as he was not looking forward to the idea, he didn't want to make a fuss about it either. It wasn't that he didn't want company; it was more like, he was a really private person and he would rather feel comfortable in the room where he would be staying for the rest of his days in Starlight.

But he was not having any of that, much to his dismay. Finally finding the door he had been looking for, Allan set his bags down next to the door and then knocked softly, loud enough to be heard in the room. There was no answer. Rattling the doorknob, he realized it was indeed locked. He knocked one more time, this time a bit louder. "H-hello...?" he called out. No answer again.

By the third time Allan knocked, he came to the conclusion no one was there. They boy sighed as he took out the keys he had placed in his pocket. The lock clicked as he turned the key; soundlessly, Allan slipped into the room with his things.

Allan went straight to the bed that was on the right thoughtlessly and settled his bags on the floor closest the bed. Only after then did he allow himself to scan the room. It was bare and sure enough, no one actually stayed there at all. Allan wondered if he got the wrong room after all. There were two beds though; meaning the room was meant for two.

Allan almost didn't notice another set of bags that were at the foot of the other bed. It was then he realized he did have a roommate. Part of the other's things were already set though but he would say his roommate would have only been here a few days earlier than he.

The clairvoyant wondered what his roommate was like.....

Making his way back to his dorm room after going out to buy some food, Corbin let his mind wander and thought of his future existing roommate. He used to have a place in the city, but the rent got too high for him to pay so he had opted to stay in the dorms instead. He wasn't sure what to feel about having a roommate as he's never been in such private quarters with anyone in a long time. He will have to manage; it wouldn't be impossible.

Arriving at the room, he made to open it with the key but found that the door was already open. Understanding dawned on Corbin; so he was here, whoever he is.

Knocking as to alert the person inside of his presence, he opened the door slowly and found an older looking boy quietly surveying the room. He walked towards his side of the room, put down the bag of food on the bed, and grabbed the whiteboard he had left on his bedside drawer. He had left it because he didn't think he would have needed it. He quickly scrawled out a greeting.

Turning it to his new roommate, he pulled down the scarf he wore to give him what he hoped was a warm smile. He really didn't want to give the other any negative impression of him during their first meeting.

"Hello, I'm Corbin. I guess we're roommates now, huh? It's a pleasure to meet you!"

He wordlessly handed the whiteboard to the other before sitting down and rummaging his bag for the pack of sweets he had bought last minute. Opening it, he popped one in his mouth and offered the other boy the pack, silently asking him if he wanted one.

Allan was rummaging through his things, mentally planning out where to place his things on the end table next to his bed and how to organize his things. He figured was going to need to cover most his side of the room's floor and wall for a multitude of reasons. He really wished he had a solo room because it was going to be difficult with the canvasses that would soon fill the room.

He heard a knock on his door and immediately turned to, right in time to catch a glimpse of the newcomer. Allan assumed it was his roommate when the boy, who looked to be a few years younger than him, went straight to the bed on the opposite side. He wasn't going to pay him much attention for now while until he finished planning out but then he noticed at the corner of his eye that the other student was writing something on a board.

The other student turned the board to face Allan and gave him a small smile before handing him the board he had been writing on a few moments earlier. Returning the warm smile, Allan said, "It's nice to meet you too, Corbin! You can call me, Allan." He wondered why his roommate had to use a whiteboard to talk. Was he mute..?He was used to people speaking in sign language if they were mute...

Allan was never one who declined when offered something so when Corbin had offered him sweets, he smiled and took a bit from out of the pack. "Ah, thank you." he said, handing back the board. "Are you also new here? Or did you just move rooms...?" he asked curiously.

Taking back the board, Corbin quickly scribbled down,

"Moved."

He held the board up using his left hand and made what he supposed was the universal hand gesture for money with his right. Pulling the board back, he resumed writing,

"How are you liking things so far?"

Corbin can remember his first time at the Academy. He had been mostly confused and terrified at everything he was seeing. There were things that he's only ever heard of in stories so it was hard to take in how they're all suddenly walking among you. It was overwhelming and Corbin had fainted. That probably started the whole idea of him being sickly.

Making a face at the memory, he turned his full attention back to the newcomer. He was older than him as far as he can see, but that didn't mean he had more control as the next guy. Being new always had that effect. He hoped they would get along. It was rather hard to stay in the same room as someone you didn't feel comfortable with. Even if you didn't speak.

When Corbin made his reply, Allan's mouth made an "O" shape to show he had understood him. He could probably guess the younger student had been renting an apartment before moving it. It would have definitely cost him less. Though personal space and privacy was a perk of not being in a dorm.

The other student then asked him again of how he was doing by now, to which he responded: "It's been pretty alright, I think? I met another student or two while I was arranging my admission and stuff. Ah.. my parents didn't have the time to help out so I'm doing things on my own." he said. Allan had been engrossed in recalling that particular encounter to notice Corbin was having a flashback of his own.

A second after that, his eyes lit up, "It's actually really amazing here..! This afternoon I met an actual angel! I never actually thought I would meet one before I pass away!" he said. He sounded really happy for someone saying something about death.

Allan tried not to think of how having Corbin as a roommate would be like in the future, and if he would be honest, he would rather not know. Something dark was always in the future and he never liked knowing. He always tried to be optimistic, but his visions disagreed.

"Ah, so..", Allan began, almost hesitating to speak again, "How.. long have you been here in the academy?"

Corbin smiled at the older boy, the enthusiastic air about him making him seem younger than he probably was. He tried to think about the angel he had just seen and wondered if he had ever encountered them before. But there were actually a number of angels that litter the school grounds. He didn't want to tell Allan that, he seemed genuinely happy about meeting an angel.

The mention of death quickly erased the smile off his face however when memories of his family quickly resurfaced in his mind. A slight shiver ran down his smile as he forced to forget and he quickly fetched his scarf to once again wrap it around his frail neck. He pulled it up to his nose, hiding the mouth that tempted him with its power but knew that nothing good would come out of it.

Looking up, he finally addressed Allan's question to him.

"I'm turning 18 soon and I've been here since I was 12 so around 6 years or so?"

While letting Allan read, he thought of a question of his own and as soon as the other boy finished reading, he pulled the board back and wrote,

"How about you? Not trying to be mean, just curious, but you seem a little old to just be starting out."

Allan momentarily was caught up in his own thoughts that he almost didn't pay any attention to his roommate's reaction to his mention of passing on until he went and asked him a question. He nodded as he read through Corbin's response and realized how long the boy had been here on the island. Allan wondered how long he could take. Of course, he'd finish his college degree, but he wanted to be back home too.

When Corbin turned the board back to him, Allan chuckled a little at his comment about him appearing older. "Ah well, you see..." he began, "Ah, yeah, I actually just turned 21. My... family actually didn't notice anything 'unique' about my ability.. Not until recently." he explained, "And well, they kinda... sorta agreed to let me graduate from my old degree program first before letting me out on some island away from home and all that."

Happy that he was able to keep the conversation with his new roommate going as well as being genuinely interested, Corbin proceeded to question the older boy. The mention of the other's family sent another painful pang through him but Corbin ignored it dutifully and focused his attention on Allan. It's been awhile since Corbin's been out of school ground, much less the island. When he had his own apartment, the only time he spent outside was the time traveling from the school back to his place.

Hearing about his age and how his ability wasn't exactly found until recently, Corbin wondered what type of ability it was. It must be something subtle if it hadn't caused too much trouble that his family wouldn't let him go until he was 21. He quickly shook his head though and scolded himself at the thought; he really shouldn't assume things of people without hearing the whole story first. It would create a misguided image of them in Corbin's mind and he didn't want that at the least. Making a note to ask about it later, Corbin showed Allan his board,

"What degree was that? And what are you taking now?"

"Oh, I was taking a major in Computer Science" Allan replied, almost cheerfully, leaning to the wall. He tried to act a little more comfortably so Corbin wouldn't feel so awkward with him. A part of him hesitated to keep the conversation going but if he'd have to be staying in this room with him, it would be good if they were better acquainted. He had considered sitting back down his bed but he figured he'd have had a hard time reading his roommate's replies.

"Right now, ah.. major in Fine Arts." he continued, "Um, I... figured I'd need something less... numbers-y after my first one so... yeah..!" he said rather abstractly, followed by an awkward chuckle. He'd always had problems when he was trying to find inspiration to paint or draw too. As soon as he tries brainstorming, everything turns fuzzy and then he'd realize he had created something horrible. And not in the aestheic sense.

"Computer Science, that sounds pretty cool!"

Corbin found that people who are tech-literate was a fascination for him. He knew how to operate a computer of course and the more basic functions for it as well, but he never really delved into anything more. He was pretty much content with knowing what he does and unless it becomes terribly needed, he'd be fine staying that way. It doesn't stop him from being curious about the people who were opposite of him in that aspect.

Seeing Allan leaning on the wall, Corbin scooted over, mentally telling himself off that he wasn't being gracious enough, and patted the empty spot near Allan as a silent way to ask him to sit down with him. He's been walking all over and fixing his papers and such, his legs must be tired.

"It's not just because you want something different though is it?" Corbin continued, "Getting into the program means that you're at least more than decent!"
